The dark, inspiring and modernist frescoes and murals of José Clemente Orozco, one of the leading lights of Mexico's art scene in the 1930s. These frescoes are widely regarded as Orozco's masterpieces, depicting pre-Hispanic Jalisco and the Spanish conquest through dark, unnerving and distinctively modern images of fire, blood, metal, broken chains and prayer. The Sanctuary of the Holy Stairs, or the Santuario de Scala Santa, is a place in Rome which contains one of the largest relics of the Passion of Jesus Christ. The stairs, covered underneath wooden steps and housed in sanctuary modified in the late 16th century, are believed to be from Pontius Pilate's palace in Jerusalem. St. Helen the mother of Emperor Constantine brought them with her to Rome after her famous pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Originally they came to be housed in the Medieval Lateran Palace until it fell into ruinous condition. Pope Sixtus V demolished the old Lateran Palace in 1586 leaving behind only the Sancta Sanctorum, a private Papal chapel from the old palace. The Holy Stairs were re-erected in front of the chapel in a new building erected around 1589. The frescoes were painted by a number of artists and featured here are some of them from the entrance ceiling featuring Jesus, Mary, Sixtus V's coat of arms, and various cherubs.

A Milano come in molte città europee sono molto diffuse pitture a soggetto mitologico per decorare i soffitti di molti palazzi di rappresentanza, declinate secondo gusti e stili diversi a seconda dell’epoca e delle esigenze dei committenti. A cavallo tra lo stile barocchetto e quello neoclassico troviamo due testimonianze, una a Palazzo Reale e una a Palazzo Morando. Quest’ultimo a partire dagli anni sessanta del Settecento fu interessato da un vasto rifacimento in seguito all’unione tra le famiglie Villa e De Cristoforis. Qui viene introdotta la decorazione della volta di uno degli ambienti del piano nobile raffigurante Ercole e Caco (?) del pittore barocchetto Giovan Battista Ronchelli. L’affresco è inserito all’interno di una cornice di stucchi floreali con agli angoli medaglioni con figure allegoriche. La ristrutturazione che interessò invece Palazzo Reale, a pochi anni di distanza, fu coordinata dall’architetto Piermarini. In questo caso la tematica mitologica riprodotta nel 1778 da Martin Knoller è l’Apoteosi di Giasone, visibile nella volta della Seconda Sala degli Arazzi. L’affresco è racchiuso all’interno di una ricca decorazione a stucco di Giocondo Albertolli, che caratterizza in stile neoclassico l’ambiente. 🖼️ 1/2. 🇮🇹 CASINO LUDOVISI L’edificio è ciò che rimane della Villa Ludovisi, fatta costruire nel 1662 dal cardinale Ludovico Ludovisi sugli "Horti Sallustiani", a testimonianza degli antichi splendori. La famosa collezione di sculture antiche, che un tempo abbelliva la villa e che fu acquistata in gran parte dallo Stato nel 1901, è attualmente esposta nel Museo Nazionale Romano di Palazzo Altemps. All’interno dell’edificio, nella Sala dell'Aurora, si ammira il celebre affresco a tempera del Guercino, raffigurante l'Aurora che avanza su un carro spargendo fiori, mentre la notte scompare davanti al nuovo giorno. The Duomo di Orvieto is rich in art and architecture it is hard to imagine how it ever got built. It is in the Italian Gothic style: Groundbreaking: 1290 Completed: 1591 It has the elaborate striped facade and interior that was such an inspiration to me- the stripes are alternating bands of travertine and basalt. On the inside are several side chapels and the central apse completely covered with extensive frescoes painted by Fra Angelico, Benozzo Gozzoli and Signorelli and others. They are influenced by Dante’s inferno and in turn influenced Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. SANS TITRE, 2024 82 x 65 cm Cette série d’œuvres sur un papier, est née de la rencontre entre l’encre de Chine et l’eau. De cette danse subtile entre l’eau et l’encre de Chine émergent des formes vaporeuses ou fixes. Elles prennent forme dans le lent ancrage de l’encre sur le papier, guidées par l’artiste jusqu’à ce que l’eau s’évapore naturellement. Il y apparaît de nouveaux paysages mythiques et spirituels évoquant les grottes, les forêts, les nuages, la mer, les montagnes, les volcans… J’ai reproduit “Les zones floues et disparues de l’encre et de l’eau” sur une toile de grand format avec de l’acrylique. I #capelli dopo un po’ spariscono e l’astronomo di corte, dopo accurate ricerche, spiega il mistero, rivelando di averli ritrovati in cielo sotto forma di costellazione, cui si dà il nome di #chioma di Berenice.
