Il Selciato del Gigante (Giant's Causeway in inglese) è un'affascinante formazione rocciosa situata sulla costa nord-orientale dell'Irlanda del Nord, a circa 3 km a nord della cittadina di Bushmills, nella contea di Antrim. Famosa per la sua bellezza mozzafiato, questa meraviglia naturale è composta da circa 40.000 colonne basaltiche di origine vulcanica, disposte con una regolarità quasi geometrica che ricorda un selciato artificiale, da cui deriva il suo nome suggestivo. Le colonne, alte fino a 12 metri e con un diametro che varia dai 30 ai 80 cm, si presentano per lo più con una forma esagonale, sebbene siano presenti anche esemplari con quattro, cinque e sette lati. Questa particolare conformazione è il risultato del raffreddamento graduale di un'enorme colata di lava avvenuta circa 60 milioni di anni fa. Oltre al suo valore geologico, il Selciato del Gigante è avvolto da numerose leggende che ne hanno alimentato il fascino per secoli. La più famosa narra di uno scontro tra giganti, Fionn mac Cumhaill e Benandonner, che avrebbe dato origine al selciato come sentiero per il loro duello. Riconosciuto come patrimonio dell'UNESCO nel 1986, il Selciato del Gigante è oggi una delle attrazioni turistiche più popolari dell'Irlanda del Nord.
