I INVITE YOU to read these slides and share a thought. We negotiate a lot alone within an acting craft. You can get caught in the storm of moving from piece of work to piece of work without actually taking time to pull from what you have learned from each set you are on. Don’t let fellow people that look like they’re on the journey with you rob you of your chance to learn. Find your tribe and people to be in relationship to when developing and strengthening your craft. I am lucky to have people in my acting community that I trust and can go to…however I have also learned some individuals are on their own path and it can be misleading. They may not be interested in learning and purely interested in the opportunities you bring them. This is dangerous as you miss the chance to take your learnings under the guise of a collaboration. This is my main point. Get a good acting coach. Not someone who is lining their pockets. Someone with heart and integrity. Trust your intuition on this and you can’t go wrong. You will know who they are when you meet them and it may take a few experiences but it’s got to be your mission to find that space. I would recommend starting with somewhere like @mattyoungactor from @tukuna.acting.club or @andrewsamuelhearle from @stagemilkacting There are lots of amazing coaches out there…keep exploring. This is in addition to the casting workshops and spaces and networking. It is unique and paramount to the actors journey and you will need to embrace this even if it means a few bad fits. There are pretenders out there…you gotta find the real and it’s my experience there is a strong body of authentic coaches out there. Authentic contemporaries too in your acting craft. Just beware of the ones that lack mutuality and are only in it for themself. They’re not hard to spot if you get honest with yourself. If you ever want to talk acting or comedy or share acting experiences with me the Marvstar. I’m just a reach out away and I believe collaboration starts for free, it just costs us our time initially.
