4 years ago I was laying in my bed, alive but not living, not knowing if I was going to get through my cancer battle. 4 years ago I didn’t have this vision for myself. My goal is to now further my education and become an oncology esthetician and an esthetician instructor so that I can work with cancer survivors, to share my story and educate on safer holistic alternatives in the beauty industry. My advice to you is to NEVER give up, to walk in faith, and to believe in yourself because you can do anything you set your heart and mind to. On October 8th, I’ll be 4 years cancer free! 💜 7 YEARS CANCER FREE 💜 7 years since i feared for my life. 7 years since my outlook towards life has changed. Thankful to get 7 bonus years since then (thank you namjoon for making me realize that), and hoping for many many more bonus lives! I used to not be a go-getter. I had dreams, but wasn’t really proactive towards them. But after getting sick, i became more eager to pursue things without the fear of judgement and to live the life i truly want for myself. I couldn’t do it all alone though..i have so many people around me that helped me, supported me, and loved me. I’ve learned that you truly hold the strength to create and build the life that you want, and that surrounding yourself with the right people will make the journey even more worthwhile and fulfilling. Lately i have been a little fearful towards life. About the future, about things not going the way i envisioned or planned..but when life throws you curveballs, you own them. It is who we become after those challenges that help us get to the next level. All the worries become smaller whenever i remember that. It's my 8th re-birthday of my first stem cell transplant AND @taylorswift TTPD drop day! Listening to the new album on such a personal day for me hits in a different way. Being treated at this first hospital was an awful experience. After my autologous transplant failed, I knew I had to advocate for myself and find a new clinic for my second transplant. My auto SCT was a turning point in my treatment, but not in the way I thought it would be. It led me to a better experience at Emory for my allogeneic transplant and I'm grateful for that. Cancer is on the rise for adolescents and young adults (AYAs). So my re-birthday wish is that you're all taking care of yourselves... Neck CT scan ✔️ This morning I didn't really want to go for another CT scan as it brings back memories and the what ifs all over again. But I put on this sweater and told myself I can do hard things, with God's strength. Prayed for peace and for no reactions. I met a lovely man after the CT scan and while we were waiting we got chatting, he completely distracted me. The nurse popped in and asked some questions then took the cannula out and I was free to go 😊. Even tho I'm sure everything is fine waiting for the results is the worst, your mind can go all sorts of places but I'm getting off that negative what ifs train as it doesn't get me anywhere. Results in a week hopefully 😊 So grateful for the Radiographers they are amazing! Love Tias merch, you can do hard things! Are you drinking green beer today??? Well, for many of you, I am sure green beer isn’t on the top of your list as a cancer survivor (or maybe just in general - it’s never been a fav of mine). In fact, that is one of the top questions people ask me about when in recovery - do I need to avoid alcohol? Here’s the deets… It does increase cancer risk when consumed regularly. < 1 drink per day = 9% increased risk < 0.5 drinks per day = 4% increased risk So, if you have a little green beer today and you don’t drink much else the rest of the time, you should be good. Can’t quit completely? It will always be special for the rest of my life, another year in remission & another day I’m here for my kids❤️ I #D agnosed with Hodgkins aI had to be locked down on a table for my 30 radiation treatments with this mask so that the radiation can get rid of the tumors, I’m very blessed 🙏I’m so blessed with my life. Never take one day for granted. I was blessed that my family was able to be there for me, my mom, @marvajune @tammylboudreaux @judycashman @smilewithme69 they showed up for my last chemo treatment to celebrate my remission & watch me right the bell! 🥰 My mom always made sure she was at every chemo treatment, I’m the luckiest woman in the world because God chose her to be my mom, I miss her everyday,not many survive, I beat cancer My mom passed from lung cancer, my grandfather from liver cancer, my brother in law had pancreatic cancer, so many lives lost, because of that horrible disease. I went over to the Linc the other day. I am preparing to take my 2nd annual Philly Big Climb event which is a fundraiser for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society @llsusa who helps blood cancer patients/warriors/survivors/thrivers like me and many others, as well as partners and care givers of blood cancer patients in many ways financially, emotionally, as well as mentally, and also helps get meds and treatment plans approved for first line treatments of blood cancers by funding research among other wonderful things. Also, on a personal level the LLS has helped me get my voice heard as I have told my cancer journey and my battles with the insurance company publicly on behalf of the LLS as an advocacy ambassador. I was just asked to go back to Washington DC this May to share my journey with policy makers again as only one of two advocates for the state of New Jersey. I’m forever grateful to have my voice heard. On May 11, 2024 I will be heading over to Lincoln Financial Field to climb the steps and run out through the Eagles tunnel again. I plan to do this every year for a long time to come, as I continue to keep beating this illness A Day At A Time for a long time to come. I hope you will join my team that day and every day, it would be great if you could share my fundraiser, but if you wanted to donate a few dollars to it, I would be forever grateful.
