25/10/2019 - Warner Brothers Studio After covering countless kilometers, we finally arrived back in Los Angeles. Here there was still a lot on the program. Including a visit to the Warner Brothers film studio. 🎥🎬 In Los Angeles, the film hotbed par excellence, there is an almost unlimited choice of studio tours, etc. I don't even remember why we finally decided to go on that one, but it was great! It was simply impressive get an insight into filming. 23/10/2019 - Highway 1 & Morrow Bay I already wrote about our rental car a few posts ago. At the top of the list of things we were particularly looking forward to was the drive on Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Of course, it would have been much quicker to take the interstate, but there's nothing quite like driving along a coastal road with the top down. And this one was lined with highlights! 😍 The impressive bridge architecture, the incomparable landscape or the wildlife... We passed several beaches where seals were cavorting. 🦭 And once we were even lucky enough to see dolphins. 🐬 As we didn't want to drive the whole route in one day, but wanted to take our time and enjoy everything, our destination for the evening was Morrow Bay. 21/10/2019 - Alcatraz I've always been fascinated by true crime and gangster stories. So it was out of the question for me to visit Alcratraz when we were around. Early in the morning, we took the ferry from Fisherman's Wharf over to the prison island. I think everyone is familiar with Alcatraz and I don't need to write much about it. It opened as an escape-proof "super prison" and ended up as a dilapidated relic. Alcatraz closed its doors in 1963's. The worst criminals in the USA were imprisoned here for three decades. The prison regime was merciless and drove some inmates to madness and suicide. Numerous film productions tell stories about this place. It was incredibly exciting to walk in these footsteps! 20/10/2019 - San Francisco As San Francisco is impossible to discover in one day, the next day was a tight schedule. The Painted Ladies, a row of elegant pastel-colored houses around Alamo Park, have long since become the city's "postcard row of houses". The view over the subtly colorful houses across the city is unique! Golden Gate Park is San Francisco's counterpart to Central Park in New York, if you like: green spaces, forests and lakes invite you to take a stroll. The Japanese Tea Garden is a small Japanese-style garden, as the name suggests. In addition to the tea house and the lovingly tended bushes and plants, the ponds, streams, steep bridges and numerous statues are also worth seeing. There are probably few neighborhoods that are as well-known far beyond the city limits as Chinatown in San Francisco. Thousands of tourists stroll through the streets here every day, taking pictures of the sometimes more, sometimes less authentic little houses and being lured into the stores and restaurants... What can I say - I loved it! 😍 We took the opportunity to visit numerous attractions on the very first day. The Golden Gate Bridge, opened in 1937, is probably THE landmark of the city. The bridge connects San Francisco with Marin County in the north. The weather here is like a lottery. On the first day, we saw the bridge hidden in fog, but the next day we got a picture of pure sunshine. Fisherman's Wharf is one of the most beautiful parts of San Francisco. Located in the north of the peninsula, the district delights visitors with its attractions and sea lions at Pier 39, numerous souvenir stores and restaurants as well as views of the bay. 18/10/2019 - Yosemite National Park & Sequoia National Park Before we headed to the sequoia trees, we stopped at Glacier Point. THE viewpoint of Yosemite National Park, from here you can see the entire valley - including the striking Half Dome and numerous waterfalls. Breathtaking. 😮 If you want to see sequoia trees, there is nowhere better than the large Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park in central California: With a diameter of up to 11 meters, the thickest tree is wider than many a house, and with a height of 86 meters, taller than many a skyscraper. We simply took our time here and walked the designated, paved path. Sometimes we felt like we were in another world. 17/10/2019 - Yosemite National Park To be honest, the pictures can't even half reflect the real impressions. Between all these forces of nature, you feel so, so small, but in the most positive way. We entered the national park from the east via Tioga Road and we didn't know where to look at first. Particularly worth seeing in Yosemite are all the mountains and cliffs with their often magnificent views, the many waterfalls, babbling rivers and clear lakes as well as the huge meadows, but you can also discover the odd sequoia tree. We saved the latter for the next day on a larger scale. 😉 The wildlife was also particularly impressive. One of the highlights was probably the "encounter" with a brown bear. We had already wondered about the gathering of people and the suddenly wildly stopping cars. Luckily, the bear wasn't really in the mood for people and we were only able to capture its fantastic "rear view". 🐻😂 It was also a great experience to spend the night right in the NP. We had booked a great cottage in the middle of nature. And say 'hello' to this beautiful car! 😍 With renting a Ford Mustang for the whole time a dream for us became true. 16/10/2019 - Death Valley And we went straight on to the next national park. And the next highlight. 😂 More than most national parks, Death Valley lives from its views and vistas. Due to the extreme weather conditions, hiking, for example, is less advisable. 🙈 So that was exactly our program, simply ticking off the most beautiful viewpoints. Among others we visited: ➡️ Zabriskie Point: a viewpoint of shimmering golden, wave-eroded rocks at their best ➡️ Artist's Drive: a scenic road about 15 km long that leads through a rather colorful rocky landscape ➡️ Badwater Basin: the most important sight in the park, where you are at the lowest point in North America, 86 meters below sea level ➡️ Devil's Golf Course: a slightly different part of the salt flats, not smooth, but so uneven that "only the devil could play golf here" ➡️ Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes: one of the few dune areas to be found in the vast desert of the Southwest, making it a rare attraction It's always fascinating to see what shapes and colors nature creates! 15/10/2019 - Joshua Tree National Park In the south-east of California lies the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park, named after the rather rare Joshua palm lilies that dot the park area. In addition, numerous beige-brown rocks pile up here in the otherwise barren desert, providing an interesting contrast to the vegetation. 🌴🌵 In the past, gold and silver were mined in the park area, but cattle were also kept here - despite the often extreme heat from spring to fall. Today, visitors are attracted by the views and hiking trails. 🚶🏻♀️ And we did something that rarely happens - hiking. 🥾 The Hidden Valley Trail is a must-do. The short hike leads through a small valley where you get to see almost the whole range of Joshua Tree - from the flora to the desert to the towering rocks. Afterwards we went to the Barker Dam Trail. Unfortunately, the small reservoir behind the dam was completely dry when we visited. As it dawned relatively quickly, we even had the "pleasure" of seeing a coyote. The howling could be heard from afar. 14/10/2019 - San Diego The last day in San Diego came quicker than we thought it would. With the sun shining brightly, we used it to visit further parts of the city or districts we had already seen briefly. The Gaslamp Quarter is the historic city center of San Diego and today the hotspot of nightlife. We were out and about during the day, so it was relatively quiet. 🤫 The architecture of the historic buildings is known for its Victorian style. The name of the district comes from the numerous gas lamps you can see all around. Once home to San Diego's tuna industry and generations of Italian families who earned their living at sea, Little Italy is now a lively district with numerous stores and restaurants. And it's pretty colorful. 😍 Afterwards, a visit to Point Loma was an obvious choice. At first glance, the peninsula in the west of the city area does not offer many sights, as it is partly a military area, but at the very end of the tip is the Cabrillo National Monument. 13/10/2019 - San Diego Our next day in San Diego was just as busy. 😅 We started it in the "Old town" district. In historic Old Town San Diego on the west coast, you could almost think you were in the 18th century. It is the first spot for visitors interested in history to find out more. Nearby you can visit the Balboa Park. Not far from the park is the San Diego Zoo, which we also paid a visit to. What a great area! 🐻❄️🐯🐨 On the way to Seaport Village, where we relaxed at the end of the evening, we went to the USS Midway. There is a museum on the decommissioned aircraft carrier. However, as we were simply exhausted from the day, we decided not to visit it. 😅 Right next to it you can find the "Unconditional Surrender" statue. 11/10/2019 - Anaheim In the fall of 2019, we fulfilled another dream in addition to the house construction that started at the same time. When planning our trip to the USA, it quickly became clear that we wanted to focus on one state and explore it in detail. Our choice was California. ☀️ After a long but relaxed flight to Los Angeles, the first contact point was the rental car station where our Ford Mustang was waiting for us. 😍 I could claim that @nicksclane is the car geek of us, but I guess that's me in this case. 😋 That same evening, we drove to Anaheim to head straight to Disneyland the next morning to counteract the jet lag. Disneyland had been on my wish list for quiet a long time. And since Paris hadn't worked out so far, we took this opportunity. We had a great day and as we were there so close to Halloween, everything was decorated accordingly. The park is great designed. However, you can see at some parts that it is getting a bit old and used. But this visit wasn't about the latest rides, it was more about nostalgia and idealistic values. 😉 Although the prices are anything but idealistic. I sometimes really wondered how families of several people manage to pay for their stay. 🫠 Oh, and we met this little friends in the last photo on the way. It’s very specific but also kind of refreshing and definitely bright. 🩵Whipped Vanilla Frosting is like a heaping topping of Cool Whip. This smells like vanilla whipped cream and is addicting! 💙Coconut Snowflake smells like sweetly shaved coconut flakes with sugar. I’d even call this a coconut custard. This was a fun collection and the start to really exciting Holiday collections from eos. My favorite from Holiday 2019 was the Champagne Pop that was only available in the Sphere but I’m been begging for them to bring it back in a Stick and Super Balm. It is located around five kilometers south of the Cretan capital Heraklion and is not only one of the greatest cultural treasures on the island of Crete, but also one of the most important sights. With this important building, the Minoan civilization has left us an impressive palace complex, some of whose ruins are more than 3,000 years old. It was great to follow in the footsteps of the legend of King Minos and the Minotaur. Вся мебель чехловая – к каждому изделию изготавливались запасные чехлы, которые, как раз, нужны для оперативной замены в случае повреждения текущих (но никак не для стирки в стиральной машине). Именно из-за требований к функциональности все диваны на механизмах, даже рыжий малыш с габаритом 1800х1000 с механизмом «Караван», не каждая мастерская в принципе способна выполнить такую сложную работу и соблюсти пожелания заказчика, да еще и повторить визы!) 😎 Из издержек – механизм хоть и мелкий, но очень тяжелый Теперь к неприятной истории: при доставке в Санкт-Петербург перевозчик потерял 1 из 3 отправленных паллетов, и потом сказал, что вероятность их нахождения крайне мала, а срок на это – 30 дней. Понятное дело, что ни мы, ни дизайнер, ни тем более заказчик не виноваты в этой ситуации, но мы решили взять всю финансовую ответственность на себя, и сказали, что если груз не найдется, то сделаем потерянные диваны и изголовье за свой счет и доставим. К счастью, произошло новогоднее чудо, груз нашелся, заказчик звонил и благодарил нас! А еще решил не заказывать наших сборщиков в Петербурге и собрать все самостоятельно, поскольку, с его слов, «настолько все просто и понятно, что собирать было не сложно»!
