Update on Mr F’s severe case of the cirit-birits, and an update on further realities of travelling: It’s back with wrathful vengeance today, necessitating a trip to the Doctor here in Langkawi. After the Doctor gave him an examination, she has declared him to have ‘Traveller’s Tummy’ and is now on antibiotics, rehydration salts, Buscopan for stomach cramps, Imodium when needed, charcoal tablets and 4 litres of diluted isotonic drinks. And he is allowed to eat the type of food you would give a six month old baby - plain and lots of carbohydrates. No spice, no dairy, no vegetables, very low fibre. We have moved accommodation this morning into the town of Pantai Cenang, next to the beach. The largest group of Malaysians consist of three main ethnic groups, namely the Malays, Chinese and Indians, so the food here is an amazing mash-up of these distinct groups. Onsite at our new accommodation there is a wonderful and recommended Indian restaurant called Rao’s Banana Leaf. We ate the best authentic Indian food we have ever had (we’ve not yet been to India itself!) with our fingers (right hand only) off a banana leaf. Washed down with a lassi, it was a perfect lunch. It’s kill or cure for Mr F, who has 💩💩💩 issues. He believes from drinking a dodgy guava juice. We have come back to our room, where he is currently waiting for any adverse effects to manifest. Today I discovered devastating news.... I was told to completely CUT OUT COFFEE!!! My gut and immune health is not the best. I have lots of inflammation (which I am assuming can explain my breakouts that come and go, still). I was given a list of foods to cut down on and a list of foods to COMPLETELY, ENTIRELY AVOID. The 3rd item on the list to AVOID was, my one true love.... coffee.... I had a complete meltdown! Coffee has been with me through the good times, the bad times, cold days, warm days, stressful days, and so so much more. I did what any responsible adult would do and that is to make myself a latte 👌. I've been a quitter a lot throughout my life, but this... this is something I cannot give up on.
