Avevo già visto il film ispirato al fumetto di 'I Kill Giants" quindi sapevo a cosa andavo in contro ma l'acquisto del fumetto è stato fatto quando mi è stato consigliato da Michele Rench alias Zerocalcare. Al Comicon del 2023 ho avuto il piacere di incontrarlo e averci scambiato due chiacchiere e la mia domanda fu "qual è il fumetto che tutti dovrebbero leggere" e lui mi rispose "I Kill Giants". E devo dire, anche se conosci già la storia, conosci già il finale, il come è riportato su carta con il tratto di Niimura da alla storia un fascino diverso. Barbara una bambina che si rinchiude in un mondo tutto suo fatto di creature magiche, lei si definisce una "cacciatrice di Giaganti". Per tutta la storia non si capisce se si parla di fantasia o realtà sta di fatto che lei è fermamente convinta della sua "professione". Proseguendo nella storia scopriremo una triste e cupa verità in cui la protagonista non vuole credere ma che purtroppo è reale. È un "avventura" che parla di accettazione e di come alcune cose nella vita succedono e basta anche se terribili. Devono succedere perché fa parte della crescita di una persona e sono quelle "lezioni che la vita ti dà" che magari a primo impatto ti toglie qualcosa, qualcosa che ti mancherà per sempre, un vuoto che nessuno e niente potrà mai colmare ma al tempo stesso, ti arricchisce la vita con tante altre cose basta solo avere uno sguardo diverso. #ImmortalSergeant de @thatjoekelly et @ken_niimura chez @hicomicsfr. À la veille de partir à la retraite, le sergent-inspecteur James "Sarge" Sargent prend une belle cuite en solo, bien plus intéressante que le pot de départ mièvre qui se prépare pour le lendemain. Lorsque son fils et sa famille débarquent pour assister à la sauterie officielle, la tension monte : en effet James est un vieux flic à l'ancienne, réac, homophobe et intransigeant tandis que Michael son fils, concepteur de jeux mobiles, a subi son éducation et ses brimades toute sa jeunesse avant de difficilement s'émanciper. Et fuir aussi souvent que possible l'ascendant paternel. Pourtant, un concours de circonstances (bien provoqué par James mais aussi le hasard) va pousser le duo dysfonctionnel à la poursuite d'un criminel dans une dernière enquête. Peut-être la plus importante de toutes. Librement inspiré de son père et de sa relation avec lui, #JoeKelly nous entraîne dans un récit familial puissant et dramatique. Le personnage principal, cette espèce d' #InspecteurHarry imbuvable et insupportable aux idées aussi arriérées que tranchées va devoir faire duo avec son fils traumatisé par son père pour se (re)découvrir mutuellement et comprendre pourquoi l'autre est comme ça. Le retour forcé sur leur relation et le passé ne sera pas sans douleur ni sans vérités qui font mal. Le dessin de #KenNiimura est à l'os : de simples coups de rayon et de larges aplats de gris font la puissance graphique de l'album. On est à la limite du storyboard mais ça fonctionne parfaitement : le dynamisme et l'émotion passent comme jamais au travers de ces planches minimalistes. Après le poignant #IKillGiants du même duo, leur retour en force sur un titre très personnel pour le scénariste mais tout aussi prenant malgré le personnage principal exécrable 🚓👍

Insomma un uomo in tutto e per tutto, con le sue contraddizioni e i suoi difetti che lo rendono ciò che è. Come in #IKillGiants il tratto di #KenNiimura è minimale e fortemente #cartoonesco, ma senza compromettere la potenza del messaggio e la profondità del racconto. I design dei personaggi sono semplici, spesso stereotipati, ma ben caratterizzati. Le scene d’azione si alternano ai momenti più calmi e discorsivi senza lasciare che il lettore si annoi. Joe Kelly e Ken Niimura ci hanno messo più di un decennio per realizzare un altro fumetto insieme, ma l'attesa è assolutamente valsa la pena. Sergente Immortale, portato in Italia da @baopublishing come fu all'epoca per I Kill Giants, è uno di quei fumetti che ti prendono, ti accompagnano per mano nel loro racconto fino alla fine, lasciandoti interdetto, divertito e qualche volta profondamente contrariato. Ma durante tutto il cammino si cerca di capire di preciso dove quella storia voglia andare, finché capisci che lo scopo di Sergente Immortale altro non è che, genuinamente, raccontare qualcosa. Proprio per questo è stata una lettura che ho apprezzato, seppur in modo diverso dal vecchio lavoro dei due autori. Rating: 3,5/5 🍃 Gestern habe ich die Lektüre meines ersten Graphic Novels beendet und muss sagen: Ich bin begeistert. Das Buch hat mich auf jeder Seite gefesselt und mich auf jeden Fall angesprochen und gut unterhalten. 👍 Ich bin durch das Internet auf "I kill giants" aufmerksam geworden. Ich hab nach Comics gegoogelt, die einen garantiert zum Weinen bringen sollen. Da wurde mir dann "I kill giants" vorgeschlagen. Dementsprechend ging ich mit hohen Erwartungen in die Lektüre und bereitete mich auf große Tränen vor. Ein bisschen enttäuscht war ich, als ich am Ende immer noch nicht weinte, aber das kann auch an mir liegen. Traurig gestimmt war ich auf jeden Fall. Mir hat ein bisschen was gefehlt: So hätte ich mir gewünscht, dass die Freundschaft zwischen Barbara und Sophie besser ausgearbeitet würde. Außerdem hatte man die Figuren teilweise dreidimensionaler gestalten können. Zum Beispiel hätte man Sophias Geschichte auch beleuchten können. Strugglet sie auch mit etwas? Womit denn? Damit hätte man auch gleich eine solide Grundlage für ihre Freundschaft etablieren können. Besonders gut aber hat mir die Beziehung zwischen Barbara und Mrs. Molle gefallen. 😍❤ Überhaupt finde ich, dass Mrs. Molle eine starke Figur ist. 👍
