I’ve been struggling with body positivity lately. I’ve come a long way in this journey, having overcome major body dysmorphia and an eating disorder in the past. But here, now? I’m not feeling great about myself. I’m struggling. It’s not about looking a certain way or hitting a certain weight number. What bothers me is that I’m not currently at a healthy weight for my body, and I don’t feel well. I want to lose some weight simply because I will feel better physically. Problem is, with Hashimoto’s, weight loss is like dragging a train through quicksand. I can’t seem to find the determination required to stick to it. This mama is tired. Chronically tired. I’m not okay with being at an unhealthy weight. I can feel my self loathing demons hissing from the shadows, waiting for an opening to attack. I’m trying to keep them at bay. When you know you need to do something, and you’re failing at doing it, it’s hard to keep your positivity up. I remind myself: My worth is not tied to how skinny or fit I am. Who I am on the inside and how I treat people matters more than some number on the scale. My body is part of who I am, but it isn’t everything. The reality is I can’t hate myself into doing anything. It doesn’t work! Accept. Love. Get back up and try again. You got this. 💖

Growing up, I never really explored my own sense of style. Everything I wore had to fit the criteria of “modest” and “not provocative.” If it was too provocative, I was told it caused men to sin. This paralyzed me from ever choosing clothing I actually liked. I was constantly ridiculed and mocked by peers for my clothing choices. I often dressed in shapeless frumpy homemade dresses and sneakers. As an adult, I’ve come to realize that if men choose to look and lust, that is their problem. Not mine. With this newfound liberation, I am finally exploring fashion with an open mind! In fact, I’m rather fixated on it. 😄 One of my favorite pastimes now is looking at clothes online.
