Pałac Linlithgow – była rezydencja królów Szkocji położona w miasteczku Linlithgow. Pierwsze wzmianki o stojącym w tym miejscu gmachu należącym do szkockiej rodziny królewskiej pochodzą z XII wieku. Później teren ten dostał się w ręce angielskie, zaś Edward I nakazał przebudować rezydencję w warownię zwaną the Peel, która miała zabezpieczać szlak między zamkami w Edynburgu i Stirling. Po powrocie w ręce Szkotów, w 1424 miasteczko wraz z pałacem zostało częściowo zniszczone przez pożar. Król Jakub I rozpoczął odbudowę pałacu, który miał ponownie stać się rezydencją królewską. Za czasów panowania Jakuba III oraz Jakuba IV obiekt był rozbudowywany. Pałac był miejscem narodzin dwojga szkockich monarchów: Jakuba V w 1512 roku oraz Marii I Stuart w 1542 roku. Po zawarciu przez Szkocję unii z Anglią, pałac znacznie stracił na znaczeniu. Spośród wszystkich monarchów panujących jednocześnie nad oboma krajami, Karol I jest jedynym, który według zachowanych źródeł spędził w pałacu choć jedną noc. Z czasem obiekt popadł w ruinę. W roku 1745 pałac ostatecznie spłonął. W XIX wieku podjęto pierwsze prace konserwatorskie. #thelinlithgowpalace #linlithgow #sunday #familytime #peel

Spent this morning helping to plant up my first ever planting design! As a volunteer with my local gardening group #burghbeautifullinlithgow I have designed 3 new perennial beds around the town replacing some of the annual bedding with more eco-friendly perennials. Plenty of watering this year will help get the plants established and then they’ll come back year after year filling out the space, needing little maintenance and will develop tolerance to drought. Sustainable and wildlife friendly, bees will be drawn to the flowers of the Lamprocapnos spectabilis and Brunnera macrophylla while the Heuchera ‘Plum pudding’ provides wonderful contrast. The Galium odoratum (Sweet woodruff) will fill in the edges and has such a lovely scent it is commonly used in potpourri. Looking forward to seeing how this bed develops! The ‘Black Bitch’ of Linlithgow. The town’s coat of arms features a black female dog against an oak tree, after a legend of a black greyhound whose master was sentenced to starve to death chained to a tree on an island in Linlithgow loch. Legend has it she swam from the town with food for him to keep her master alive before being discovered and chained herself to another tree. During 2023, Peter has been releasing a new song from the album on the occasion of every full moon. Being revealed roughly every four weeks, each track has been allowed to find its own time and space, to enjoy its own orbit. “It’s a little like getting a Lego piece each month,” Peter explains. Now it’s time to stand back and admire the final, completed creation. And what a creation – 12 tracks of grace, gravity and great beauty that provide welcome confirmation of not only Peter’s ongoing ability to write stop-you-in-your-tracks songs but also of that thrilling voice, still perfectly, delightfully intact.
