The Blog | Day 132 | 1st May 2024 Unbelievable Shot in 2015. That’s 9 years go whilst stopping off at Duck Bay Hotel car park to go for a 7am stroll before getting in my VW Golf GTI to boost to the Institute to do On Call in ITU. I used to live in Rhu. By far the best place I have ever lived. I joined Instagram on 1st Jan 2015 and did a daily blog to chart my existence out there, my neurosurgical training and random thoughts in my head. I was single. Heartbroken and 100% confused on some personal experiences. Also I didn’t intend to end up in Glasgow: it just happened. My friends in Edinburgh where I used to live moved south to England and I moved back up to Scotland. Missed them. @the_ambitious_endurance remained (thank God he did). Lots happened 2014-2016 in Rhu. It’s called life. I cannot fathom this is 9 years ago. I cannot fathom I am a decade older than I was starting neurosurgical training. I cannot fathom having relinquished that treasured Golf of mine: a stalwart in Oxford and up here in Glasgow and Rhu. I cannot fathom having moved to Dundee then back to Glasgow and then more moves. That Band 3 Rota. Working >100hrs per week for years. Changing cars: Ford Focus, BMW Z4, BMW 3 Series. So damn much has happened in training and I am so damn thankful I did a daily journal from 2015-2020 then re-started it in 2023. I’ll never ever forget moving out my West End flat to Rhu in Dec. 2014: of doing two car trips after work, arriving at 8pm, getting out the car and looking at Rhu Spit. Wow. The stars. I felt so thankful. Was so excited. No one in my family had ever lived someplace like this in Britain before. I felt rich though so indebted to £70k. Slept on the floor. Rhu was where Simon Lammy got re-born. It wasn’t easy. The loneliness of Jan - Feb 2015 was something else. Loneliness being a companion in Dundee 2016-2017. The utter emptiness. One day I’ll put it all together in a book. It’ll be brutally honest about training and so much else. Why? Why not. “Changeable”. This is typical of Shetland weather and it’s quite often early morning or early evening in my experience. This was about 7pm and it had rained non stop all day. We’d gone to visit some friends for an hour and when we came out the sky was split in two as the dark rain clouds moved aside like a curtain to reveal a beautiful fresh and calm blue evening. We were next to Clickimin Loch where the Iron Age Clickimin Broch is and were just about to head back to the house but I just had to get a couple of photos. Early morning. First wild swim of the year- due to my health conditions I can’t wild swim through the winter here, so I use the local pool. But this is my absolute happy place- a beautiful loch, surrounded by woods and mountains. Perfection! Happy nature boy! Being in the water is also the least pain I’m ever in. Ausrisse an den 🚪 repariert 😉 Habe mir auf anraten vom Kollegen @holz_keller das 2k Reparatur Kit von Ponal gekauft um die ausgerissen Löcher zu Stopfen. Es ist alles dabei was man braucht sogar ein riesen Eisstiel aus Holz 😅 Man mischt das 2 zu 1 an und hat dann gute 10min Zeit das zu verarbeiten. Habe vorher mit Klebeband die Rundung angeklebt, damit das zähflüssige Zeug nicht verläuft. Hat gut geklappt. Man kann den Reparatur Spachtel nachher bearbeiten wie Holz 🪵 heißt schleifen, sägen und bohren... Habe es über Nacht trockenen lassen, sicher ist sicher 😉 Dann neue Löcher 🕳 gebohrt und die Scharniere wieder eingesetzt. Sieht ganz gut aus und es hält erst einmal wieder 😊👍 Der Spachtel ist aber nicht ganz hart geworden, bleibt immer noch etwas flexibel. Habt ihr das Mittel von Ponal schon einmal verwendet gehabt?
