Grab a crowbar, pry bar, hammer & start the day! That’s what I did this weekend at the bungalow. I’d had enough of being greeted by that eyesore of a hearth that stared me in the eye every time I opened the front door to the Pendleton bungalow. I had already discovered there were rich cranberry tile hiding behind original to the 1940’s ready to be set free. Now I just needed to break away the hearth that shielded them in hopes I would crack any original or discover that’s why they had been hidden to begin with. It took a bit of patience going back & forth from one end to the next working the crow & pry bars between the seam creating a crevasse that eventually gave way to hidden gold. ✨ Finally there it was! 🤩 And yes, I was careful! 😁 Not one scratch on the beautiful cranberry nor to the hidden wood flooring! 👍🏼 Now that’s a “Good Morning!”✨💫 What are you up to on this fine day? After I pulled this off I just had to kick back, sip on a cup of gōōd fresh roasted coffee & soak in the satisfaction of the reveal. ☕️💫 Ahhh! I’m so excited to show you these dreamy mid century modern Breuer cantilever chairs I’ve been hunting for & snatched up from my dear friend Celeste over at @thebohemianfind to place in the Pendleton bungalow once the reno is complete. Have you ever sat in a cantilever before? If you have then you know how incredibly balanced & comfy these are! My goal was to find at least two to mix & match in the dinning room but here are 4!!! And in pristine condition!!! I love these clean modern lines these steel tubes provide. Marcel Breuer was an innovative architect & furniture designer. This chairs design was inspired by his new Adler bicycle frame & the tubular steel allowed the minimum use of material to achieve maximum strength. Jeff just smiles at me (rolling his eyes) that I’m already buying furniture for the bungalow. Although the bungalow is not yet complete one must grab these rare pieces when one can! Right!?! So yesterday Instagram hijacked my written post & after 7 re-try’s & 1 complete rewrite I decided to leave it & be on with my day. “Walk away” before I throw it out the window!”🤪🤬😝 Don’t worry! I’d never do that! This mornin I’m giving it another go! (Fingers crossed!) 🤞🏼 They say “The way to a mans heart is through his stomach” ✍️ Well, I believe that to be 98.9% true. When Lucas came home from college for Spring Break he had great plans of hanging out with his family, friends & girlfriend. Days later we were hit with this pandemic scare & things changed rapidly. All the campouts, hanging outs & going outs came to a never before experienced halt & of course, like most of you, we didn’t like it one bit. Can you imagine being 18 & in Lucas’s shoes though?! He’s an athlete playing football in another state away from home & his lifelong homies. The rug had literally been pulled right out from underneath him! We’ve all gone through some crazy emotions yet this guy right here made a plan. He took what control he could & developed a schedule. Developed ideas for ways of keeping himself occupied & in shape. He wanted to keep his brain stimulated & help time to pass. He told me he wanted to learn how to cook. He committed to it just as diligently as his twice a day workouts. Lucas was in the kitchen daily testing new ideas, memorizing flavors & tastes. He began exploring more & branching out with meals. It was impressive & encouraging to watch his growth. With his 19th birthday around the corner I asked “What kind of cake do you want for your birthday?” He began sharing dessert ideas. Then I said; “Hey! Would you like to bake it?” “Me?!” “Yes! We can do it together, I’ll be right there with you!” I’m sure he thought we’d use a box mix but I knew we had everything we needed to make it completely from scratch. This guy stepped up! He literally baked his very own birthday cake! Pretty impressive don’t you agree? Yesterday was such a weird freak’n experience for me! I can’t even begin to put a title on it. Can’t yet shake it. Still processing! I think I felt isolated like this cacti pulled back from the other plants. Given a gift card for a prominent nursery in inner Portland I decided to venture out yesterday with mask, hand sanitizer & gloves in tote. It was deeper into the city & thought the outing, even just the drive could do me good! Did all the norms on my drive. Listened to music, listened to a couple interviews. Feel’n a pretty good vibe along the way. Turning into the parking lot my site narrowed capturing employees strategically staged about. Then it hit! This indescribable feeling. I pulled into a parking spot, got out, approached the entrance where I was greeted by a masked employee that stood guarding the only ‘open’ entrance. I couldn’t see a smile. I could barley hear her muffled greeting as she began asking if I’d been in recently, if not then she had important info to share. She began going over the nursery was strictly following guidelines & if I didn’t choose to comply I was welcome to shop elsewhere. She also told me to keep at least a 6ft space between myself & others, all loading would not be assisted by any employees & then she asked my specific reason for coming today & how she could direct me. After said dissertation I entered past the “gate keeper”. I noticed a somberness over the shoppers. None were making eye contact. It just felt...strange. I couldn’t wrap my head around the feeling I was experiencing. I walked about for a bit & then just came to a place where I no longer wanted to be there. I eventually went back to my Jeep, got inside & drove back home with not one purchase to gratify. I don’t like it! I didn’t like it! I still don’t! This “new normal”! Can I just say it?! I felt like we were all cacti & if we got too close we just might feel a painful stabbing. On the drive back my thoughts recognized I needed to quickly take hold & count the positive about my little outing. I went over “I’m thankfuls” counterbalancing negatives. The Pendleton RoundUp has only been canceled twice in its 100 year history & those cancelations were do to World Wars. This shows the strength & fortitude of the people of RoundUp & all who attend. It’s just such a historical event full of traditions that embrace Anglo & Native American culture. Of course, every precautionary measure is at the top of the list. Everyone’s safety is important to RoundUp. I know I’ll be there yet again set up right across from Roy Raley Park adjacent to the RoundUp main entrance. How’s your emotional state? Feeling the flames of these long seemingly unending quarantine daze? (Daze pun intended!)🤪 Yesterday I escaped to my jewelers bench for some personal creative therapy. I revisited a couple of pieces I had started based on the earths elements beginning with fire. I began this series for grounding. The basic elements of life. Little did I know when at its inception that before long I would be walking through a time warp of sorts in a viral quarantine. My soul was leading towards grounding. Grounding the whirlwind of loss I have experienced over the last few years. Experiencing art through conception of the 4 elements of earth; Earth, Water, Air & Fire. In Native American culture fire symbolized the heart of the People and its smoke carried prayers to the Great Spirit. The Fire Symbol represents cleansing and renewal because out of the ashes of a fire comes new growth and new thoughts and ideas. That is my prayer to my Creator during this time. Taking in perspectives of old views seen from one side of the river as we drive the Washington State side heading west towards home. This is Mt Hood & The Columbia River seen from Stonehenge in Maryhill, Washington. Since we’ve been regularly road trippin east to Pendleton we decided to switch things up for the drive back west yesterday. Sometimes ya just gotta do that! It’s a change of view that can stir a mind-shift. It’s healing to see beauty from the other side. ********************************* It was a weekend of hard work cutting out wallpaper seams, scraping, sanding & painting! Experiencing trigger finger, upper shoulder burn from stretching & reaching & lower back strain along with hip pain. Getting used to new weekend beds, unfamiliar sounds & meals on the fly. Doing a home Reno is not for the faint of heart that’s for sure! It’s a sacrifice. A test of patience & grit. And although testing, exhausting & trying at times it is well worth the journey to get to the other side, pull over & take in all the beauty from a new perspective. It’s worth crossing over & going out of your way to create new perspective. And I wouldn’t trade it. Nope, I wouldn’t trade the journey to get to the view. Here she is! An inside look at the newest baby in my life! Put some good old fashioned sweat into working on my new/old 1940’s bungalow all weekend and here’s just a little glimpse of her for ya. She’s got great bones but really abused inside poor thing. Jeff & I spent this weekend sunup till sundown pulling out some of the grossest ever carpet & pad, pulled tacks, strip & nails, swept, hauled loads of left over garbage & debris, repaired the furnace, sanded the fireplace & began painting all in a 2 days work worth. We literally busted our butts! I began pulling the light mint green palmed frond grandiose carpet to reveal oak hardwood floors in desperate need of refinishing yet hard wood floors at that!!! I spent time sanding & filling holes, chips & chunks on the fireplace mantle. The furnace hadn’t been working so my mechanical engineer man worked repairing it as I also pulled tack in between paint coats trying to tackle as much as we could get accomplished in our short amount of time there. Rango settled right in & proudly watched over us & the house & neighborhood. I can’t wait to show you more but IG will only allow me to post so much at one time. We’ve definitely got our hands full for sure but it’ll all be worth it to pour love into this baby as she’s been aching for some attention for quite some time. Hi, I’m Lisa, Do we know each other? 😊 . . I’m on this side of life. The side that offers extra smile lines and grey hairs. You know, the side that has brought you years of joy and intense heartache sometimes within seconds of each other. I believe they call it “seasoned”. Ya, there you go, I’m seasoned! Currently I’m transitioning my hair from bleached woven blonde to el natural. I’ve got white hair that grows predominantly up front around my hairline and a bit mixed in throughout my now natural dark brown. I’m not sure if I can do this but I’ll hold on for a bit longer. I was born with golden hair and grey blue eyes to a family of dark brown eyes and jet-black Native American hair. I sure surprised them! My Creek Muskogee grandmother called me Golden Head as a special term of endearment to throw off all the teasing I would receive from other family members. She said I was special like the white buffalo. Im an introvert and an extrovert depending on the situation and the people I’m around. There’s actually not many people I meet that I don’t like. I really get along with people that are true to who they are. You know, the kind that just are who they are and are comfortable in that. I’m one of those gal’s that knows how to appreciate fine taste yet I’d rather be in a good ole barbecue joint with crispy sweet potato fries then at the Ritz Carlton drinking a cosmos. And yes, I’ have done both. To be honest I quit drinking alcohol altogether three years ago. It wasn’t because I had an out of control drinking problem. It was due to a shaking up of sorts when my daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor and I learned from her neurologist just how bad alcohol and caffeine are for the human brain. It’s a struggle alone to remember things the older you get! You know what I’m say’n! Yes, I gave up coffee too!!!! I know right! I didn’t even think that was possible but I did it! Bonus! I’m saving so much money every month since quitting both!
