Unless there is an entry in my calendar, I don’t really know what to expect of the day ahead of me. So I collected myself, jumped into my truck, and pointed it down the dirt road out of the farm where the 100 year old adobe casita I’m occupying sits. Faced with a choice at the main road, I turned left without really thinking about it, because that’s what the road wanted. Turning left put me on the High Road to Taos, and for those who haven’t ventured, it has a tendency to alter your perspectives without you even knowing it,,, so it made sense that it intuitively pulled me left. The High Road to Taos is filled with wonderous stories, so I didn’t make it very far, and obviously never made it to Taos. Some of those stories captured my curiosity, and I slowed my pace as I felt the surrounding environment grabbing my attention without any real destination to get to or anything to accomplish, which was refreshing - surrendering to the translating sensory stimulation into whatever experience was calling - and I noticed the rising of a blissful state devoid of any need or performance required on my part. Anyway, not really needing to get to Taos, I stopped along the road where it made sense, and it being the middle of a weekday, I had the luxury of sudden stops that inspired me since the road was pretty much deserted. Except when I came across a state trooper who had the road blocked for a film crew that were making a movie. The conversations I had with the few folks I interacted with during my stops were one of peaceful ease - shop owners, artists, or fellow travelers with a sense of why I was there. This land does that - it softens, it slows, it allows, and it freely gives - like an eternal and true love that has no rationality behind it but is none the less magnetic. However, the best conversations I had was with myself, and those happened when the various primitive cemeteries that dot the ridges of the road pulled me into them. My silent solitary steps through the silent stories etched in marble, interrupted only by the wind through the pinion trees and the crunch of my shoes on gravel, creating a solemn moment of joy. ✌️💖🤗
