Synthesis of the Arts 2023, part 2: Ann Hamilton’s exhibition “as after is before”. Moving Star (Emily Eagen, Mark Ettinger, Saskia Lane, Onome) perform in the gallery as Ann creates a rubbing of her stone piece “all palpable things”, melding music and live drawing. The performance was a 2-part public program inviting visitors into a dimensional gallery experience in which sound, movement, drawing, language and sculpture activated one another. The poet Ann Lauterbach reads “Fragment (Stone)”, which is part of the special zine that Ann Hamilton created to accompany her exhibition. The transcendent sound work, “whistling”, enveloping the gallery in a multisensory experience. Hear Ann Lauterbach’s poetry reading, and the conversation between Lauterbach and Hamilton on our website. The unique experiences held at ‘T’ Space are made possible by the support from our community near and far. THE BREAK FELLOWSHIP - WOMEN EMPOWERMENT 🔥 Looking back at an incredible first day of #thebreakfellowship in Spain... Yesterday I arrived in Madrid, together with 400 other women coming from all around Europe, to start the in-person chapter of our journey in #female #entrepreneurship #empowerment! (The last part of a group of a 1000 female entrepreneurs) What a joyfull ride already! 🥰 After a blasting start with inspiring talks, lots of laughter and a tear here and there, the #passion of #flamingo #dancing was tapped into our #body... Talking about #embodying empowerment! (looking forward to our first lesson💃) It was hard to fall asleep! 🤪 Today, 15 of us are driving towards our local project (one of a total of 26 projects in rural areas all spread over Spain) in a small town called Arroyomolinos, near Sevilla. For 1 month these amazing women will be my closest family; living, eating, working, relaxing together. And sharing a #mission.... The mission to create a better world 🌍 One that is more balanced and nurturing and therefore #sustainable. A world with #equality, #diversity and #inclusion. Inclusion of all our earths creation(s)... We all have our personal and unique ways to contribute to this mission, embodied in our individual businesses. (Ánd the first collaborations are already being explored!) And, in Arroyomolinos, together with @AlmaNatura we will make a contribution to a more sustainable future for the local community. Making Spain more balanced by creating opportunities for people to leave the cities and start living more rural. 🌳🐐 The power of female #fellowship 💪 Feeling so grateful to make this journey... 😇 To be continued! PERFECT (BROKEN) YELLOW I like to #draw and #paint, especially when emotions seem to not 'come out' and are finding a way to express themselves. I give them a hand, so to speak... It has nothing to do with aesthetic, nor with a certain recognizable shape. I just pick up a crayon (or brush) and start to express whatever live wants me to. That's where the perfection lies. This time I found very old #crayons, ones that I used more than 40 years ago! With my name on the box, in that nostalgic children's handwriting, which seemed to have helped for it to stay in my possession (even after so many travels)! And after purple, #yellow 'found' me. And yellow 'spook loud'. It seemed to have so much energy that it kept wanting to fill the paper, and in a very 'pushing way'... until it broke. Only then, I discovered that all the crayons had special names written down on their sides. So it was 'Perfect Yellow' that was not in one piece anymore... Though both pieces were still the same #colour PERFECT Yellow (and still very usable!) So... "perfection is in everything, broken or not!" Such a nice #metaphor... 💛 In the end I reflected on my drawing and recognized some patterns, some ideas that I was not #aware of before. The drawing helped me #embody some #emotions that were hidden before, creating new #inspiration to continue with. These colourful expressions help me to #unstuck and create more #innerpeace. 👉Do you ever use paint, crayons or other craft work to explore your inner life? SHAME ON YOU! - UNSHAME - Going through a rough period of my life, dealing with the rollercoaster ride called #menopause, this little voice in my head still sometimes pops up to tell me... "It's all because you did something wrong!" And continues with: "You are experiencing this more in extreme because of your behaviour in the past, 'it should not be this way', it's all your fault. This is your #punishment!" Oh my... Ofcourse I am accountable for parts of my experience, there are (probably) some causal factors. What I eat, drink, how I move and rest, and how I approach what is happening inside and outside me, my attitude. And yes I did live 'wild' in my younger years, using substances, depriving myself from sleep, ánd doing things not true to me. But who is to tell that what I am experiencing now is the result of whatever I did or did not do? Let's stop shaming ourselves and others! Let's stop to say "No wonder you are in pain, look what you did before!" or "No wonder you are suffering from an illness, you never 'did the work' (mental or spiritual enquiry)!" Even if it were true, whom does it serve? We all know already deep down inside that some behaviour is less supportive to our wellbeing. We don't need another #critic telling us. What dóes serve is that we #speak about our struggles. That we create a sense of #support, a feeling we are all human. And sometimes we make 'bad' choices. And we learn (or not) and continue #ourjourneycalledlife As about menopause. It was never clear to me what this period beholds (besides hot flashes). No woman (or men) 'prepared me' for it. For this big #transition as a #woman being. About the (visceral! and therefore dangerous) #fatgain, the #muscleloss, the unexplainable #pain throughout your body, the #brainfog, the #sleeplessnights, the overwhelming doubts about your existence, your #lowerselfesteem. And the list goes on. Did I do something wrong because I can tick almost all boxes of this page long list? NO! I frequently need to remind myself, shall we start to remind each other? And take the #shame & #blame out of the conversation? I feel you woman! 💚 #movingstar #rewildedwoman
THE NEED FOR RE-WILDED WOMEN... 🔥Let me set one thing straight. When I use the word 'wild' (in relation to women) I mean #pure #untamed #notcontroled by others or social norms. Not a picture of a big toothed flesh eating monster! 🔥Re-wilding means going back to that pure, natural state we all feel deep down inside is our ultimate #true #nature. That part that has been covered up by all the roles we play and all the stories we have been told (and believed), and have been repeating, about ourselves. 🔥A #rewilded #woman embodies her true nature and dares to feel, thing, speak and act freely in the world. She is truthful yet in a loving and nuanced way. 🔥She speaks about her struggles and chooses what feels right without (being prevented by) shame or guilt, or even the need to explain herself. 🔥And she recognizes that this re-wilding is a lifetime learning, even more an #undoing then a doing. It's a process with it's own #rhythm and #pace. 🔥In this process she finds her own #unique way, the steps that support her in this #empowerment. And she finds other women to be supported by ánd inspires and helps other women herself. 》Without the #envy or (subtle) #battle for being 'the best', but with #encouragement and #celibration of rediscovered life!《 🔥This is the path I have been taking and will continue to do so, finding new parts of myself each day... 🔥Will you join me, beautiful woman? CREATED BY... By whom or what is this #woman being named Estèl created? God? The universe? A 'big bang'? Divine power? Nothingness? (Besides that my mother and father had their contribution 😉🥰) I am not sure. No one can be totally sure. It's all about faith, beliefs, trusting what feels true... a choice of what fits you best. No #absolutes... The #mystery of #life 💫 And probably that's the whole idea of this #human #existence. What I do know (for sure 🤔) that this woman #being can create by #doing. This doing can appear inside or it can get (outside) visible. Ideas, stories, pictures, yes even emotions projected by my #mind, which will not be necessarily visible or even noticeable to others. Until 'I' decided to #express them. To #embody these inner processes, this #aliveness in me. That's #creation 🔥 Or manifestation (of creation), or however you want to say it... Whether it's writing a few lines of a #poem, cooking a meal, crying my eyes out or speaking Portugese words, it's all expression of life. Of life itself through me, my body. Life's #incarnation, #intheflesh 👐 Today this body embodied a #carpenter (or a woman with a #hammerandanail) and (re)created a chair out of a broken one...
