Bunsen Fries ✨ Bunsen’s fries were very very good. Nice and hot with a umami seasoning as our mother likes to say. Reviewer A would have liked a little more salt, but that’s just being picky. We found these fries delicious and were very happy to eat the whole bowl. Perfectly proportioned and crispy on the outside. We did have one complaint though, the sauce. NEVER EVER EVER PUT TWO DIFFERENT SAUCES IN THE SAME DISH. THEY WILL MIX AND RUIN THE TASTE. HJDKJSENNJEJEB!! We spent most of the time telling each other off for mixing the sauces by accident, but other than that they were delicious and we would 100% come again. Heartland - Kiwi Favs - Apricot Chicken Alright folks, today we shall be looking at... *checks notes* ...chips? Again? Yes, this is the last one I got on my sh1tlist for now and possibly could be the most interesting. Heartland has released a new range of chips called 'Kiwi Favs'. There are 3 flavours in this range, including mousetraps and roast pork - but today I will be looking at the one that sounds the most interesting to me and hopefully yous, Apricot Chicken. But first let us look into what a fav is: according to the urban dictionary 'fav' is an acronym standing for 'forever a virgin'. Not sure what Heartland chips was going with here, but I am going to completely forget about any commentary on that and move on immediately. Apricot chicken is a dish made with... Anyone? Yes? ... Apricot and chicken, excellent. Long a kiwi favourite, (is it a kiwi favourite?) I have definitely eaten a few plates of apricot chicken and I remember enjoying it, but as a flavour on chips? I have tried stranger sounding flavours, but I can't think of many. The chips inside of this packet have been kettle fried and have an appealing, semi transparent colour and a superior crunch. A dusting of orange flavouring finishes the sophisticated autumnal look. Truly a work of art, but looks ain't much - and all that matters around here is how they taste. And smell. Oh! And the texture. Actually looks matter a quite bit too... These are sweet, but thankfully these didn’t go too far towards sweetness, instead making the correct choice of a savory chicken flavour contrasted with sweet apricot. They have actually made the apricot taste like it has been reduced down eliminating most of the tartness and leaving only a smooth sweetness. Yeah, a pretty accurate flavour to be honest, excellent work Heartland. But does this flavour work on a kettle chip? Yes. This totally works - would stay away if you hate apricot chicken, but I like it very much. 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟥🟥🟥 A new fav - 7/10 What yall think? Anyone tried the other flavours yet? What are they like? Hello Stranger Cafe 📍 I’m not a big cafe giiirly especially when my local spot satisfies any cafe craving I have but they are a great place for a catch up. I was pleasantly surprised by Hello Stranger, I wanted something over the top so tried their French toast - A thick piece of brioche bread, nutella mascarpone, fruit, biscoff crumbs & floss . As sweet & decadent as this looks it actually wasn’t too much, the fruit was so crisp & added a necessary freshness to the dish, the nutella mascarpone was light & slightly sweet, the biscoff crumbs added some crunchy texture. Ngl I took the floss off, it looks pretty but it was mint flavour which was kind of odd. I drenched everything in maple syrup & the whole thing just worked. The couple of egg dishes we got were perfectly cooked & the coffees were delish (albeit small). I would absolutely come back here to try some of their other dishes like their chilli crab croissant 😮 sounds yummy 🦀

I was a plastic spoon kid until around 16 years old; I honestly found it shocking when I saw that people would eat their food with silverware… so this wooden spoon craze I have atm doesn’t surprise me. Made this cake with feijoas from a friend’s garden and a random solitary apple we had in the fridge. - |On the Table Today| + Feijoa, Apple, & Honey Coconut Cake - |Recipe| - 100g butter, softened - 1/3 c caster sugar - 4 Tbsp honey - 2 eggs - 3/4 c desiccated coconut - 3/4 c plain flour - 1 tsp baking powder - 1 1/2 c chopped feijoas - 1 small apple, peeled and diced - Icing sugar, for dusting | + Preheat the oven to 180C. Grease a small cake tin and line the base with baking paper. + Cream together the butter, sugar, and honey. + Add the eggs and beat. + Fold in the coconut, flour, and baking powder. + Set aside a quarter of the fruit and fold the rest into the batter. + Spoon the batter into the prepared cake tin. back at @kokomo_chch and with their new and improved menu, it's definitely worth a visit. unique food offerings in chch is hard to come by but they came through - especially if you love seafood. first pic is the crab mac n cheese - i mean where else can u even find this here?? creamy, cheesy, crunchy + crab. the prawn dog is also a must w the soft n fluffy bun. now on the other hand the small dishes such as the tofu and wonton fries didn't rlly stand out but it was still decent. would love to try the rest of the dinner menu. they also offer a specific brunch menu so literally any occasion u should visit especially w the nice ambience and environment.

While any serious foodie could tell you about how much of a powerhouse Peru has been in the global culinary scene, there does not seem to be much representation of it locally. Peruvian food itself could be considered "fusion" by today's standards when looking at the range of influences it draws from. What I'm really trying to say is that I hadn't been to @madamegeorgenz and couldn't think of a better segue to admit this embarrassing fact! Ordered the Tostada Del Dia, Prawn Tacos, Tallarin Saltado, Grilled Chicken, and the Bunuelo. Things started off strong with the Tostada. There was nothing striking about it, but I did admire the freshness of the fish along with the mix of creamy and crunchy. Pure bliss. Similarly, I found the Prawn Tacos to be just as simple and flawless. The plush tortilla encased a no-frills fried prawn with the right balance of condiments. There's nothing to enhance. Just a delicious taco that you could down 10-20 of without even realising it. The Tallarin Saltado resembles a Peruvian Chow Mein. The base underneath the noodles had a distinctive salty taste, which brought out the umami flavour of the steak. With the sauce gently caressing the udon on each forkful, I found the bite of the thick noodles to be very satisfying with the steak morsels. I was entranced by the Grilled Chicken. The wafer-like skin crackles as you lightly push down on it. Dragging your fork ever so slightly reveals insanely luscious chicken, hydrated and glowing. The sauce had a touch of heat, fruitiness, and earthiness. An almost yolk-like consistency, coating the chicken as if it were a cheese sauce. My only qualm was that there was enough sauce for the surface area of the chicken, but not the full volume of it. The Bunuelo was pretty much a rosette cookie with sorbet. The lemon sorbet had a strong lip-smacking tanginess, which worked with the sweetness of the Bunuelo. I found the service at Madame George to be quite down-to-earth and personable, especially as a solo diner. The food is more delicious than it is exciting or photogenic, but you can't say it isn't unique when looking at our current food scene. I definitely recommend checking out Madame George.
