The dark night of the soul’s journey begins and everything gets harder before it’s easier. This last year has been a YEAR y’all and I’m glad I am here to talk about it; healing from surgery, processing grief, and transforming the pain to wisdom and compassion- for myself and others. I read a lot of guru books and made the gym my girlfriend (sorry for all the workout pics- I know people love those gym selfies… 🙄 actually I take it back, I’m not sorry- you’re good). I see all of your romantic dinners, so just pretend it’s my romantic dinner date 😉 and the cold plunge is my loyal hostess. 🥶 I digress. Back to the lecture at hand (yes, I sang that in Dre’s voice)… we can do hard things. The journey is not always easy and healing is not linear but YOU are worth it. 💯 I promise you. ((Long Post)) April 21, 2023, remains a significant day that completely altered my life. Every detail of that day is vividly imprinted in my memory as if it happened just yesterday. It began like any other day, with Casey driving me to work and making plans. Despite reminding him to pick me up at 5:00 pm, he got caught up in phone calls, dining with friends at First Watch, and contacting his beloved spot, the Pen Place. After running some errands, he arrived early at 4:00 pm, patiently waiting outside. When I joined him at the car, I rubbed his head, kissed him, and said, "Babe, I asked you to pick me up at 5:00." He responded, "I know, but I wanted to wait for you." Little did I know that this would be our final shared moment. I held him close until help arrived, cherishing the fact I was with him in his final moments. His absence is deeply felt; he was a remarkable husband, father, friend, minister, and pastor – a truly genuine soul. Reflecting on the first time we met – I was at the back of the church, and he was at the front, where he indeed SAW ME. This memory echoes the day he showed up early to pick me up. NICU mom a year later: After Madison was in NICU for 3 weeks our world was so confusing. We didn’t know how she would develop or what deficits she would have. We are very blessed and watching our girl hit her milestones. She gets PT and is thriving! We think they will sign off soon! We recognize this isn’t a lot of stories post NICU and are extremely lucky that it’s ours. She loves to read, dance, and talk. She truly is amazing and we are so proud of how well she’s been doing! To all my NICU Mama’s, I know your fears, I know your heart breaks for your baby and I know you are blaming yourself. Take a breath and remind yourself that the world has a plan for you.

✨ONE YEAR OF WEIGHT LOSS✨ Today makes 1 year since I started back on my weight loss journey. It’s not perfect. I’m not where I hoped to be 1 year out. But in 1 year, I’ve lost almost 50lbs (and around 4 pants sizes), gone on 3 amazing vacations where I’ve enjoyed myself, balanced fun, food, and activity when I could, and I’ve gotten back to a more comfortable place with my body. I’m healthier and my doctors have stopped blaming everything on my weight (for now at least…). It’s been tough. It hasn’t been pretty some days. But it’s progress and the one thing I can (somewhat) control these days. Don’t talk about the changes you want to make. Just do it. Nobody can start to change your life but you.
