Day 10 Caldas de Reis - Padron (22 km) Dovevano essere 16 km oggi, ma abbiamo optato per una deviazione per visitare delle cascate un po’ distanti dal cammino ufficiale. È stato bellissimo, c’eravamo solo noi, il bosco e il mulino. Certo, anche una discreta montagna in mezzo, ma la fatica è stata premiata. Oggi tutti si interrogavano sul “dopo cammino”, su come sarà tornare a casa. Al momento non è una domanda che mi pongo. Sono ancora qui, in mezzo a paesaggi bellissimi e persone davvero interessanti. Ognuno ha una storia da raccontare e a me piace ascoltarle. Oggi siamo arrivate a Padron e abbiamo ritirato la nostra (Pedronìa), una specie di Compostela. Domani la tappa finale sarà lunga e a quanto pare pioverà molto. Veggies are planted, pool is “open,” and the golfers are golfin’ ⛳️ This year we got tamaytas, pataytahs, cucumbas, pepahs, sellerie, unyins, bayzil (or bazil, for those across the pond), rowsmarie, and for this year’s undoubtable non-survivor, a lemun tree 🍋 (Tips are welcome) This year, I mixed in some earthworm castings to the soil and will be giving them some LiquiDirt for its first watering. Day 9 Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis (22 km) Anche oggi una tappa tranquilla con pochi km e un paesaggio davvero incantevole. Abbiamo ri-incontrato alcuni amici dei giorni scorsi. Tra tante risate e qualche birra siamo arrivati tutti insieme a fine tappa. Il cammino è davvero affollato ora, ma ciò non toglie (almeno non troppo) la sua magia. Sto diventando molto lenta in tutto ed è una bella sensazione. Ho fatto perfino poche foto oggi. I also had some good food at lunchtime - which always helps. Tomorrow I will be turning left and heading towards the coast and to Santiago. Day 8 Redondela - Pontevedra (24 km) Alla fine la pioggia è arrivata, olè… ma la giornata è stata bellissima lo stesso. I pellegrini sono davvero tanti ormai e trovare un alloggio è sempre più complicato, ma anche oggi abbiamo un letto per dormire (mai partire senza sacco a pelo!). La notizia migliore del giorno è che i miei piedi sembrano guariti e oggi non mi ha fatto male nemmeno quello con il livido. Forse stasera riescono a raggiungerci anche i due pellegrini con cui abbiamo camminato i primi giorni. Vorremmo fare insieme l’ultimo tratto di strada. Stasera cercheremo anche di fornirci di cibo per domani. Tra l’altro domani abbiamo deciso di andare in albergo, ci serve urgentemente un bagno privato e pulito per lavarci i capelli e la biancheria. Ah che viziate :) Il morale è alto e ridurre un po’ i km quotidiani è stata un’ottima scelta. Etapa 11. O pedrouzo SANTIAGO. . El camino vuelve a crear a una nueva persona y después de hacer el camino, no vuelve a ser igual. Últimos 20 km que he disfrutado y me he recreado hasta el último suspiro. Parece mentira pero tengo la sensación de que solo pasaron 3 días. Gracias al camino y a toda la gente con la que he caminado, dormido, tomado una cerveza o café o incluso hasta hablado en inglés. Qué mágico todo lo que se vive aquí. Day 7 Vigo - Redondela (18 km) Siamo partite molto presto stamattina perché le previsioni davano brutto tempo nel pomeriggio. Infatti siamo arrivate a fine tappa asciutte e appena abbiamo posato gli zaini nell’ostello è iniziato il diluvio universale. Siamo state davvero fortunate. Per oggi… Nella tappa di oggi ho fatto molta fatica, i miei piedi fanno ancora malissimo, dove ho picchiato ieri ho un bel livido e lo zaino pesante sulle spalle non aiuta. Adesso riposo assoluto, ho giusto fatto un giro in paese e preso un po’ di pane e formaggio per stasera. Day 6 Baiona - Vigo (26 km) Oggi è proprio vero il detto che il cammino non ti dà quello che cerchi, ma quello di cui hai bisogno. Oggi effettivamente avevamo bisogno di due “schiaffi”. Abbiamo deciso di non seguire la rotta ufficiale perché passava in montagna con un discreto dislivello e preferivamo passare sulla costa perché cotte e perché sarebbe stato l’ultimo giorno sull’oceano. Ma anche perché ci faceva male tutto. Pessima decisone. Dopo poche ore abbiamo perso ogni traccia di pellegrini, eravamo sì in pianura ma in periferia piena di rumori, gente e auto. Giusto qualche scorcio era bello, ma ci siamo sentite fuori luogo ovunque senza una fonte di energia. C’è stato un momento che avremmo voluto prendere l’autobus, ma ovviamente non l’abbiamo fatto. Morale della favola: le prossime due tappe saranno brevi e sotto i 20km; seguiremo i nostro cammino ufficiale e ci godremo il viaggio molto lentamente. Mentre scrivo mi rendo conto di non sapere quanti km mancano a Santiago (ora guarderò), ma sospetto intorno ai 100 perché qui a Vigo i pellegrini sono triplicati. Prima ho guardato su Booking e domani è già tutto pieno ovunque. Niente paura, ma significa che da ora in poi la strada sarà molto affollata. Per ottenere la Compostela, cioè la certificazione ufficiale del cammino di Santiago, si devono percorrere gli ultimi 100 km a piedi. Lo fanno in tantissimi. Molta gente viaggia anche senza zaini perché si possono spedire. Non mi sento di giudicare nessuno perché qualcuno lo fa per valide ragioni. Mi piacerebbe solo trovare un posto per dormire semplicemente quando sono stanca di camminare, ma da ora in poi non sarà quasi più possibile, dobbiamo organizzare prima. Intanto dobbiamo arrivare… Britta ieri è caduta per strada e io oggi sono scivolata in bagno picchiando forte il piede. Insomma, non basta essere in forma…ma oggi abbiamo imparato molte cose. Chissà se i piedi smetteranno di fare male. Day 5 Caminha - Baiona (39 km) Ed eccoci in Spagna… Oggi la giornata è iniziata malissimo con forti dolori e per i primi km zoppicavo e mi veniva da piangere. Ma anche oggi il cammino ha provveduto e dopo un paio d’ore non sentivo altro che la voglia di andare avanti. Per passare il confine siamo state letteralmente rapite da un taxi-boat abusivo (ma questa è un’altra storia) che ci ha scombussolato i primi chilometri della rotta prevista. Poi abbiamo attraversato la prima parte della Gallizia con i suoi paesaggi mozzafiato. Qui la costa non è popolata come in Portogallo e dopo 27 km, che non ho idea come siano passati, pensavamo di organizzarci per la notte. Peccato che il paese successivo fosse a 12 km da lì e in mezzo una bella montagna che abbiamo dovuto risalire tutta. Di solito i pellegrini si fermano dopo pranzo e così non abbiamo più incontrato un’anima fino a Baiona che, un’altra volta, abbiamo attraversato tutta fino al nostro alloggio che avevo prenotato su Booking in mezzo al bosco, giusto per avere una meta come guida motivazionale per gli ultimi passi. E infine dopo 39 lunghi, faticosi e bellissimi chilometri, eccoci arrivate con gli ultimi raggi di luci. Abbiamo fatto la spesa per la cena di oggi, colazione e pranzo di domani. Day 4 Viana do Castelo - Caminha (31 km) Il nostro albergue (cioè il classico alloggio dei pellegrini con i letti a castello) ha un piccolo bar e stasera scrivo da qui davanti a un bicchiere di vino. La mia compagna di viaggio è già a nanna. Oggi la giornata è stata bellissima con un percorso alternativo rispetto al cammino classico, tutto sull’oceano. Camminiamo sempre finché riusciamo e poi aggiungiamo un paio di km che fanno male ovunque. In tedesco si dice di arrivare sullo “Zahnfleisch”, cioè strisciando sulle gengive. Togliersi le scarpe è il momento più bello di ogni giornata. Oggi potrei raccontare mille cose, ma mi limito a dire che domattina passeremo il confine e saremo in Spagna. Ho conosciuto tante persone meravigliose. Sinceramente non ho idea quanti km mancano a Santiago e manco mi importa. Sono grata di non avere vesciche e “solo” dolori dappertutto che camminano con me, ma che accetto come si accettano i difetti delle persone a cui vogliamo bene. E niente, Spagna sia domani, anche se mi dispiace lasciare questo Paese e la sua gente meravigliosa. Early mornings 🌄 , pilgrim blessings at Mass 🙏 , long walks sharing heart ❤️ to heart ❤️ talks with new friends, beautiful nature, and evening meals with other pilgrims from all over the world 🌎. These are just some of what I’m hearing from @tommyrinefort after one week ✅ on The Camino de Santiago. And while those are the highlights - - - I’m also hearing about sore feet, tight muscles, and the challenges of sleeping in Albergue dorm rooms with 20 other people. 🥳 Walking the Camino de Santiago has everything and more ➡️ 😔 but even in the darkest times the pilgrim finds a lesson, a gift, a message that brings growth & insight, and so much gratitude. 💁🏼♀️ At home, Tommy enjoys his own room, big queen bed, and all the typical comforts. From: Morille Start time: 7.45am To: Calzada de Valdunciel End time: 4pm Accommodation: municipal albergue (small only 8 beds) - top bunk Terrain: roads, sandy track, small gravel tracks, country roads. 🥾Km: 37.2 🥾Miles: 23 🦶Steps: 47718 💰Costs: €5.36 - 2x snickers & gummy sweets (bought from the garage at the start of the town. If I didn’t eat before the supermarket shop. I’d spend a lot more money) €22 2x ibruprofen & 10x compeed (compeed is expensive!!)! €36 supermarket shop - 4x tangerines, carbonara sauce, 2x crisps, large bar of chocolate, 2x gf biscuits, eggs, peas, tuna, cheese, 2x packs of babybel, 2x dried food - just add water. Subjective feeling out of 10 on: Enjoyment: 6/10 Fatigue: 4/10 Ease of terrain: 3/10 ⭐️Highlights: crossing the bridge over into Salamanca - stunning. 😍 the cathedral!! Wow! What a building!! Well worth visiting. The endorphins are kicking in today! Or maybe it’s the pain killers! 🏔️Challenges: nothing particularly challenging today. I was slightly concerned about whether I’d get a bed or not as it’s a small albergue and you can’t book. But decided not to worry about it - as there was nothing I could do, until I arrived. It’s 9.30pm no one has been to check us in - so no stamp and no payment. (Never happened to me before!) very strange. 💭Thoughts: the person in the bunkbed below me is obviously a very heavy smoker. He came in and the whole room now stinks of nicotine and smoke. Which I’m very allergic to. At one point I thought he was smoking in the bed! He wasn’t it was just the smell coming off his body and his clothes. Day 2 Vila do Conde - Marinhas (30 km) Stamattina siamo partite presto e la giornata è letteralmente volata. Il meteo ci vuole bene, anzi, quasi troppo perché ci siamo scottate su gambe e braccia nonostante la protezione solare. Anche stasera niente albergue perché avevamo voglia di fare ancora qualche chilometro (con il giro serale siamo a 34…). Abbiamo trovato un appartamentino sulla spiaggia che condividiamo con una pellegrina ceca (nel senso della Repubblica Ceca…) per 10 euro a testa. Un vero lusso. Le due ragazze a fine giornata si sono perfino tuffate nell’oceano, io ho preferito guardare le borse… In lontananza si vede già la Spagna. Suite… De retour à l’auberge avec mes provisions, j’ai passé le reste de la journée allongée, appliquant en continu de la glace, en alternant avec des massages des zones douloureuses en m’hydratant abondamment. En milieu de journée, Juan est passé à l’auberge accompagné d’une autre fille. C’était la première fois que je le revoyais depuis cinq jours. Face à mon état, il a confirmé que c’était la meilleure solution pour aujourd’hui et que je verrai pour demain. Un autre voyageur est également passé en coup de vent à l’auberge, son anglais était tellement rapide, la barrière de la langue a rendu la communication difficile. Malgré tout, l’échange était agréable. Plus tard, d’autres pèlerins anglophones sont arrivés à l’auberge pour y passer la nuit. L’ambiance était différente de celle de la veille, leur conversation animée étant difficile à suivre. J’ai préféré me retirer dans ma chambre pour me reposer et terminer la journée en toute quiétude. Je garde espoir pour demain. Peu importe le temps qu’il me faudra pour terminer l’étape, je suis déterminée à y arriver. Mardi 11 juillet 2023 PAUSE. Ce matin, je me suis réveillée à l’aube, comme d’habitude, vers 5h30-6h. Mon pied me faisaient déjà mal dans le lit, et l’idée de le poser au sol m’angoissait, sachant que je devais parcourir 23 km aujourd’hui, cette étape me semblait insurmontable. Après mûre réflexion, j’ai décidé de ne pas partir avec mes compagnons, les laissant poursuivre leur chemin sans moi. Allongée seule dans mon lit, les regardant se préparer et partir l’un après l’autre, je me demandais comment j’allais pouvoir continuer dans cet état, surtout avec encore une dizaine de jours de marche devant moi... c’est rapide et long à la fois … On m’a suggéré de prendre un bus ou un autre moyen de transport pour rejoindre l’étape suivante, mais cette idée était inconcevable pour moi. J’avais promis à ma grand-mère de terminer le chemin à pied, en pensant à elle à chaque pas, et je comptais bien tenir cette promesse, même si je devais avancer en rampant. Après avoir obtenu l’accord de la responsable de l’auberge pour rester une nuit de plus, je me suis décidée à sortir vers neuf heures pour faire quelques courses à l’épicerie @latiendinadelaura , située à seulement 500 mètres. Ce trajet, cette distance, d’habitude anodine, m’a pris entre 20 et 25 minutes, tant ma démarche était lente, anticipant la douleur pas après pas. #camminodisantiago Day 1 Porto - Vila do Conde (28 km) Primo giorno sul cammino e le impressioni sono migliaia. Alla fine della giornata restano i piedi dolenti (dolentissimi) e la voglia di riposarsi. Dolori sparsi, ma per ora niente vesciche. Incrociamo le dita. Si fanno i conti con i propri limiti fisici e l’attrezzatura e, ahimè, non siamo pari… Stamattina siamo partite tardi per prendere il timbro alla cattedrale di Porto che apre soltanto alle 9, di conseguenza siamo arrivate molto tardi a destinazione: albergue e ostelli tutti pieni. Ora siamo in un hotel in periferia, abbiamo fatto il bucato e mangiato il tipico pesce portoghese al ristorante ma vestite in modo improbabile. Le comiche… Dopo un bicchiere di vino abbiamo faticato a tornare in stanza. Ecco, a proposito, viaggio con un’amica che in realtà devo ancora conoscere, ma per ora abbiamo scoperto i nostri stessi disturbi mentali. Per il resto tanti pellegrini da tutto il mondo, tante storie, tanti sorrisi, tanta voglia di scoprire la bellezza del cammino e la consapevolezza di dover fare i conti con noi stessi e con quello che ci circonda. Adesso non so se mettere la sveglia per domattina oppure vedere che succede. Santiago è ancora così lontano, praticamente un miraggio. Vediamo cosa succederà domani. The albergue tonight is also providing dinner and breakfast. The dinner with the other pilgrims was really fun. Lots of people from all over the world. (🇳🇱, 🇮🇹, 🇨🇭, 🇰🇷, 🇺🇸, 🇪🇸) 🏔️Challenges: dinner was at 8.30pm and I’m so hungry!!!! I devoured all the food I could. Omelette for starter then rice with tomato sauce and boiled eggs, with an orange 🍊 for desert. I had some coconut desert thing - but I’m not sure if it had gluten in or not! Grassy and sandy lanes. 🥾Km: 31.2 🥾Miles: 19 🦶Steps: 40,246 🚗 Hitch - 1 back to the Camino. 💰Costs: €2.30 - fruit. Apple, pear, orange, 2x tangerine €15 accommodation Subjective feeling out of 10 on: Enjoyment: 5/10 - it is what it is. Fatigue: 4/10 - still in pain. Ease of terrain: 4/10 - it’s not difficult - my feet are just messed up. ⭐️Highlights: I love when things work out. I left the accommodation after having some porridge. Walked to supermarket bought some fruit and then it took me about five minutes to hitch ride and I was back at the Camino at 9:31 am. 🏔️Challenges: because I’ve been walking a little bit differently due to the blisters on my feet. My calves are now a little bit messed up. There are no foods places, no cafe or supermarkets open. So I have no food! Apart from an orange. I need to wait to 9am tomorrow for a supermarket to open. 💭Thoughts: I actually can’t believe how well the past 20 hours has worked out from getting to the road - getting getting a ride to town being able to cook my pasta getting in bed at 4 pm staying until 9am the next morning and being back on the trail at 9:30 really rested and well fed. I could not have planned it better. Sometimes, things just work out. 🇮🇹 Bjergene oven for Nocelle og Gudernes sti. 😅 I dag var vi ude på en længere og lidt hårdere vandredag, som først førte os højt op over Nocelle og senere langs Amalfikystens mest kendte vandresti — Gudernes sti. 😍 Det var en fabelagtig opstigning op til jernkorset højt over os (korset som kan ses helt øverst på første billed hvis man zoomer ind ;)- og så igen højere op. Forbi kæmpe klippevæg som hænger ud over stien. 😋 Udsigten over det blå Middelhav er smuk og vi kommer snart gøres vi nedad mod bjerglandsbyen Bomerano. I Bomerano en frokost i en lokal restaurant på torvet. 🥰 Eftermiddagen gemmer på en af de smukkeste stier ved Middelhavet: Gudernes sti. Legenden fortæller, at guderne fulgte denne rute for at nå ned til havet, hvor “sirenerne” sang. 👌 Ruten fra Bomerano til Nocelle byder på de smukkeste udsigter over kysten og den er blevet omtalt af mange kendte forfattere i de sidste århundreder. Fra Goethe til D. H. Lawrence og til Italo Calvino. Den fortjener sit ry og vi nyder denne strækning, som uden de store strabadser, leder os tilbage til Nocelle hvor vi runder velfortjent af med en kold drink. @livetsvandring.dk ❤️ #livetsvandring ❤️

But it was the only accommodation I could find. €3.50 pineapple juice & crisps Subjective feeling out of 10 on: Enjoyment: 6/10 - actually pretty impressed I’ve done 30 K Fatigue: 4/10 - i’m not tired I’m just in pain. Ease of terrain: 5/10 ⭐️Highlights: reaching the road at 2.25pm- I’m ready to stop walking now. I’m pretty much limping and going so slow! I just need a hitch to the accommodation. Which I got straight away. There was a couple who had just finished a bike ride so they gave me a lift to town. 🏔️Challenges: My feet are not doing that well so I’m being forced to walk a lot slower than I normally do. There’s probably a lesson in there though. Day 11/32 🥾Camino Via de la Plata, Spain 🇪🇸 ℹ️Stats: Saturday 13th April Weather: Sunny ☀️ & hot From: Cañaveral Start time: 8.10am To: Galisteo End time: 2.45pm Accommodation: albergue (small - only 8 beds) Terrain: large rocks, small rocks, medium rocks, gravel, sandy paths, farmland. A little bit of road 🥾Km: 31.3 🥾Miles: 19 🦶Steps: 40,064 💰Costs: €15 expensive for an albergue. It’s clean & I could not have walked any further Subjective feeling out of 10 on: Enjoyment: 5/10 - blisters on the bottom of both feet are causing me constant pain. Fatigue: 4/10 Ease of terrain: 5/10 ⭐️Highlights: making it to the albergue and getting the last bed! 🏔️Challenges: every step is painful. It’s also super hot - I’m going to have to start leaving earlier. 💭Thoughts: long, long, long day. Day 10/32 🥾Camino Via de la Plata, Spain 🇪🇸 ℹ️Stats: Friday 12th April Weather: Sunny ☀️ From: Caceres Start time: 7.20am To: Cañaveral End time: 6pm I took 2 big breaks Accommodation: albergue private - bottom bunk - small room. Terrain: Rocky, gravel, farmland, roads. 🥾Km: 46.2 🥾Miles:28.7 🦶Steps: 59,356 💰Costs: €18 albergue/hostel €2.50 orange drink €9 sweets, rice cakes, cheese Subjective feeling out of 10 on: Enjoyment: 6/10 Fatigue: 4/10 Ease of terrain: 5/10 ⭐️Highlights: the weather was amazing! Maybe too hot and I rarely say that! It was glorious ☀️ 🏔️Challenges: I had to remove my jacket, my waterproof and my pink Hoody after 20 minutes of walking. Normally I wear them for about an hour/two hours until it’s warmed up. It is going to be a super hot day today. 💭Thoughts: mentally, I’m feeling in a better place. Probably because I had some proper food yesterday instead of just my crisps and chocolates. Although I had that as well. I’ve got accommodation booked for today. Added motivation to get there. It also takes away the stress of wondering if I’m going to get a bed or not. Because when you do a massive day like today.I know that I just want to check in and get to bed. I don’t want to arrive and find out there is no bed and I need to flaff about or walk further to try and find somewhere to sleep. Day 9/32 🥾Camino Via de la Plata, Spain 🇪🇸 ℹ️Stats: Thursday 11th April Weather: Sunny ☀️ From: Alcuéscar Start time: 7am To: Caceres End time: 3pm at the town - 5pm at the albergue Accommodation: albergue / bottom bunk Terrain: sandy, gravel tracks, farmland. Roads, city streets 🥾Km: 41.5 🥾Miles: 25 🦶Steps: 53,294 💰Costs: €5 2x Coke €13 - Coke, ice cream, 2x snickers, gf cookies €18 albergue €30 - a very overpriced chicken salad, coke and a custard like desert. Subjective feeling out of 10 on: Enjoyment: 7/10 Fatigue: 5/10 Ease of terrain: 4/10 ⭐️Highlights: horses, wildflowers, blue skies and the city of Caceres. Also walked over some cool bridges. Got my accommodation booked for tomorrow. Big day 46 km. 🏔️Challenges: I paid a ridiculous amount of money for a chicken salad. There was hardly any chicken. But I thought I better eat some proper food. Seeing as I just keep eating chocolate and crisps with an occasional piece of fruit! 💭Thoughts: I have to say I’m struggling more than I thought I would on this Camino. It’s not the physicality of the challenge. It’s not the terrain - it’s the mental side. I think I’m feeling burnt out. I thought I was well rested after New Zealand. But maybe I haven’t given myself enough time to recover. 🇮🇹🌿Fra bjergene til kysten. Vandring i Monti Lattari bjergene fra Pogerola til Pontone og videre til Minuta og Amalfi. 🥾🥾 I dag har vi vandret i Monti Lattari bjergene fra Pogerola til Minuta og videre via Pontone til Amalfi, som befinder sig ved kysten, hvor dalen åbner sig og møder Middelhavskysten. 🌳👌 Stien ind i bjergene går gennem kastanie- og egetræsskove. Ind imellem åbner udsigten sig ud over de barske og øde kalkklipper, som rejser sig til alle sider. Dybe dale og smukke vandfald. 🥰😅 Mange opstigninger, klatren op og ned af klipper og hundrede af trappetrin senere når vi byen Amalfi som befinder sig ved Middelhavskysten. 😋🥂 Et besøg i byens smukke Katedral, en soppetur i havet og Lemonis senere, går turen til aftenens spisested - Ritrovo Positana.
