You know how athletes warm up and stretch before a game? Artists need to do the same thing. Before my busy season starts in the late spring, I take time for creative projects. Projects where I can photograph without the pressure of delivering a final set of images to a paying client. Every year, my warm up sessions kick off a season of creativity and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to stretch my creative muscles to better show up for you throughout the year. 😴 As a first-time mom, I didn't know the difference between my baby being awake and active sleep! Do you? 👶 I had my baby sleeping next to my bed in the bassinet and thought every time she grunted or opened her eyes that she was awake! This is actually not true....newborns are loud when they are in "active sleep" you notice grunting, groaning, eyes fluttering, and they may kick their legs a bit. ✨ Newborns only have 2 stages of sleep "active sleep" and "quiet sleep". This is my last year taking *new* family clients. After 12 years photographing families, I will be closing the doors to new family clients in 2025. If you follow me online, you might have noticed I’m sharing less family photography and sneaks. That’s not because I don’t adore the images or sessions, it’s a visual shift to attract a new clientele, in a niche I’ve been working in for the past few years. My website will also reflect these changes later this year. Here’s Why: My children are at the age where they have sports on the weekends and most weeknights. Last August - November, I missed so many of their activities or we had to cancel plans because family sessions are generally on the weekend. You get the gist. Life was too busy. It’s super important for me to show up for my family, and not be a complete pile of mush come Winter from burn-out. It’s also time to shift my focus into another area of photography that I absolute love! I have been working with entrepreneurs, artists and small brands for the past few years and have completely fallen in love with creating custom imagery, portraits and content for them. It’s naturally evolved and I’m ready to fully lean in to the world of branding and commercial work - even though change is scary. I’m super excited to offer my unique toolset and vision to other creatives and business owners. Family Sessions will continue on with the same love and dedication as usual. It means the world to me to be invited into your lives and document pieces of your heart year after year. Photographing kids and the unique family bond has always been one of my favorite things to observe and document. Nothing is changing yet, but big things are underway. If you have friends or family that have expressed an interest in working with me, encourage them to book sooner than later. I got to do one session while I was in Tokyo. And it was a raining morning. Heavy rain it was. We had the shoot in the neighborhood where I stayed. The first day when I walked to the station from the hotel apartment I have loved this quiet neighborhood. Little charms here and there, tiny architectures with personalities, spring trees and flowers, colorful vending machines, and even a shrine..I know these are the most ordinary things, but it’s exactly how I want to remember Tokyo.
