"A Bug's Life" is the delightful 1998 American animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. This was Pixar's second feature-length film, following the iconic Toy Story released in 1995. Shown here are โPrincess Attaโ and โDotโ plush dolls from the film, licensed and manufactured by Mattel Inc. These dolls use an interesting mix of soft & glossy fabrics to simulate the sheen of the ant characters seen in the film. The use of molded vinyl & painted heads on the plush bodies, allows significantly more detail and facial expressions to come through versus straight plush toys, especially at this smaller scale. The second image includes character design concepts and color studies for Princess Atta and her sister, Dot. They did some great work here bringing so much emotion out of insects who are not easily anthropomorphized this way. The licensed product line supporting A Bugโs Life was considerably larger for the second film from the team at Pixar Studio, as the industry was not prepared for the phenomenal success of Toy Story. Strong voice casting, highly emotive & powerful BIG cast of characters, beautiful production design, sweeping majestic music, and of course a great story!
