It's been 2.5 weeks since the runDisney 10-miler. The hardest feat physically I've ever done. A feat I'm still recovering from. I subluxated a few bones around the 2.5 mile mark. I ran almost 8 miles on a partially dislocated foot and ankle. But I finished. I completed the race. With no Balloon Ladies in sight. 🎈🏃♀️ While I've been medically advised to stick with 5k and 10ks due to my joints, I'm glad I did this race. EDS may prevent me from running long distance in the future, but I still have this 10 miler under my belt. Since I've personally been advised against long-distance racing, my new goal is to get faster at the 5k and 10k races. I will note for any fellow friends with dysautonomia that need electrolytes, the Honey Stinger gels did help me. I took two during the course of my race. Something that was also super helpful was rundisney including Powerade at some of their water stops, and a snack stop. If the Powerade could be implemented at all runDisney races, including the 5ks and 10ks, that would be stellar, especially for those of us who require more sodium. A special shoutout to the medical team at runDisney, their support and assistance after the race made all the difference. 135.1 miles, 23 medals, 16 races, 2 coasts, 2 parks, 1 perfect(ly imperfect) season. I avoided calling this a perfect season for so long—I didn’t announce I was going for it, I kind of laughed when people would ask me about what race or races I’d be at next. For a recovering perfectionist, I tend to avoid that word, because I know I’m human, mistakes happen, hard days (and weeks, and months) happen, illnesses happen. This year, I’ve navigated training while being a mom and wife, having a full-time and stressful job, and dealing with health issues and having to change so much. I don’t say any of this for sympathy, but to be real with you all. Taking on a full season’s worth of races takes a lot of commitment, time, effort, and resilience. It takes choosing yourself and your goals, even on the days you struggle remembering why you’re doing it. I regret nothing, though. I learned so much about myself this year—I am strong, I am brave, I am capable, I am worthy, I am enough. I also learned I am not alone, and I have so many wonderful people in my life that helped me mentally and physically reach each one of those finish lines. To my husband, thank you for running the first 7 races of the season with me and even starting running so I wouldn’t be alone. I am so glad we found each other a little over 18 years ago and that we’ve chosen each other every day ever since. You have seen me through my hardest and happiest times, and I don’t know how I got so lucky to have you, but I am so glad I do. I love you so much. To my friends who have seen me at my core, have held me in tough moments, who have helped me breathe when I was gasping for air, who made it feel a little less scary every step of the way, who sang with me on course, who made me laugh and feel little kid levels of joy, and who have loved me through it all, thank you so much. And for you out there who are thinking about doing the big, scary, life changing thing—the thing that seems impossible now—do it. Choose yourself. Choose your dreams. Shine big and bright, and if you need someone to cheer you on or commiserate, I’ve got you. 🩵

Medal Monday! It was bittersweet getting medal pics because my mom should have been there with me, but she was on her way home to be treated for her injury. I can't say enough good for the @rundisney medical tent staff, the @adventhealth staff at the hospitals, and the Cast Members at Animal Kingdom Lodge who took such good care of my mom and made sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed during our stay. Disney Redemption Race❤️🏅✨ After some surprise knee pain during the Disney marathon in January, I was feeling so nervous about this 10 mile race. I was afraid it would happen again and was prepared to walk or exit the race if I needed to. It never happened and I had a great time! I've learned to take it easy on the banked ramps and that helped a ton. This ten mile race may have been my favorite race yet. It was a humid warm run despite the early start time, but I didn't even mind since it was so much fun. The course had us running through the parks for a large portion of the miles and I loved that. After the race we headed to The Riviera for breakfast and rode the Skyliner back to our resort. I went on a Lion Hunt, watched Sarah go “the longest I’ve ever walked at one time on purpose”, laughed more than any other race, and finished my second 10 Miler without dying the next day. After last year’s experience, I never thought I’d be at RunDisney for an April race ever again. I told myself I would take it easy (which I did) - and even though I know I could go faster, this weekend was not about speed. HAPPY FINISH LINE FRIDAY!! *please read* This Springtime Surprise has no doubt been my favorite finish to any of the Disney races I’ve done. I’m not one to usually worry about finishing a race, but I’ll be honest. I was worried about this one. The day before I had a little breakdown, my right hip wasn’t doing ok it was hurting a lot with any step I took. I was also placed in D corral which I normally wouldn’t worry about but combining that with my hip I was worried I wouldn’t make it and just cried. All my friends rallied around me, looked me dead in my eyes and told me I was crossing this finish line. Jenn drop back from her corral to be by my side and pace me through. Tiff, Britt, Michelle, and Guru communicated with us the whole time so we had a goal and that was to get to them to cross the finish line together. My hip did bother me, but Biofreeze became my friend and I was able to keep it tamed until mile seven but at that point I knew I was gonna make it. First time I actually got to stop for characters during a race. It’s because Jenn paced me perfectly. And you can see we crossed the finish line as Ohana wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I still can’t believe my first Disney run has come and gone! 🥹🎉 My mom and I had the BEST time!
