There are so many gorgeous antique frames with so much charm sitting unused in these places! I’ve been holding onto these frames for several months, waiting for the perfect project to use them. Where to begin… Like many others during the pandemic, I faced unemployment and found myself lost in uncertainty. Anxiety overwhelmed me with questions about my future and aspirations, as I had spent years caring for five wonderful children as a nanny. Unfortunately, COVID-19 affected my health, leading to lung damage and the development of asthma. Discovering my passion for candles was a revelation, but it turned out that they triggered my asthma. Upon medical advice to give up candles, I was determined to find a solution. Through diligent study and research on measurements, formulas, oils, and wax materials, I turned my candle-making hobby into a therapeutic pursuit that eased my anxiety. This hobby evolved into a successful business, taking me to various festivals, markets, and conventions. With savings, I bravely opened my shop at Soha Arts Building in Haddon Township, NJ, a vibrant community that welcomed me. I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me on this journey – my family, friends, mentor, clients, and the Soha community. With my bold Leo spirit, I thrive on growth and creativity. Bursting with fresh ideas, I am eager to embark on a journey brimming with new products, workshops, and more. I’ve only been at my shop for six months, and I’m eagerly anticipating my first year and beyond! I can't make sad art anymore. I collaged over this Carl Jung - super feels - mascot of the internal struggle bear with color. To be honest, the bear is still sad, but there's that weird phenomenon where we truly find ourselves in our sadness, and it's uplifting. Life changing, even. And maybe that's not really expressed clearly in this illustration but going forward, I'm claiming that happy/sad weirdness as one of my themes. Because life feels too short to me to create images that make us both feel singularly sad. I've mentioned a few times before that i partnered with an amazing organization by the name of Mothers In Charge @mothersinchargeinc to produce The Artivism Project. @the_artivism_project MIC is a violence prevention, education and intervention-based organization, who advocate and support youth, young adults, families and communities affected by violence. By combining my Character Design Workshop with trama healing exercises with a co-instructor, Artivism was born. At the end of the 6-week workshop I take the kids' sketches and stories and do my professional rendition of their characters.
