Well that was a weekend of two halves! An absolute pleasure to be out with Eleanor and Clare boosting their trad lead skills. Driving to the Wye Valley on Saturday we passed snow-capped hills, and spent a soggy day in the sleet and rain on some very chilly rock looking at gear placement and anchors. The sun just about poked its nose out at the end of the day to tease us… Sunday was a very different story indeed at Avon Gorge. Wall to wall sunshine and beautiful conditions made for a stunning day climbing Morpheus, working on slick multi pitch changeovers and different methods for building anchors. A huge well done to both for learning lots despite some challenging conditions! A few pics from a great private day trip to Portland yesterday with She and Sophie. Driving down from London we passed through many a rain shower, but yet again it was sunny all day in Dorset - hard to believe it’s February. Although we saw a large amount of seepage on the crags we passed on the walk in, our chosen spot was dry as a bone, and we climbed some excellent routes, looking at rock overs, footwork, a cheeky abseil and even a little jamming technique! 🌿Cutting the willow is just one part of the harvesting process. Next on my list is to sort them by length, take cuttings from any that I want to grow more of and then plant them. Plus tidying up the old bed, making holes in the silage wrap bigger as last year’s stools have gotten chunky, fixing the fence where the trees came down and moving the fire wood. Today was a good day. It didn’t rain, I enjoyed a quiet day in the field with just the birds (and sheep 🙄) as company and I’ve made a great start with ticking off some of those jobs. ✅ 7 varieties sorted and 490 cuttings made. However I could really do with a clone right about now!
