Still nothing to update you all on regarding Bassey, our usual mechanic has been away on paternity so we were relying on a different mechanic😅 Who wasn’t amazing at getting back to us, thankfully our usual mechanic is back next week so fingers crossed our van will finally be seen too! Day 25 we hiked 20.4 miles through the beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park. We walked out of our motel room and headed to the Tropic Trail that connected to the Peakaboo trail and then the Under The Rim trail. The hike was incredible with amazing views of the hundreds of Hoodoos! If you go to New River Gorge...DO. THE. BRIDGE. WALK. 🌉 This was such an awesome experience! It's crazy how much the bridge shakes as cars and trucks drive across above you. Walking 800+ ft above the river with only a thin piece of metal beneath you is pretty unnerving if you don't like heights (Dan) but it somehow feels weirdly safe and secure at the same time. This tour gives you an unbelievable view of the valley and is truly a once in a lifetime kind of experience. Day 21 we hiked 22.2 miles out of town down some dirt roads on the Escalante west alt. Day 22 we hike 21.4 miles. The first part of the day we hiked cross country over the bentonite hills to Waheap wash when the rain/wind storm began. The storm wasn't too bad until a few hours later on the dirt road walk. A nice couple in a Tesla cybertruck gave us a ride 5 miles down the road away from the hail and lightning strom making the total miles traveled that day 26.4. Originally we had planned to reconnect with the primary that day and hike down into Round Valley Draw, but with 3 days of bad weather and heavy rain we knew it would be best to stay out of narrows and washes. Day 23 we hiked 11.2 miles into the town of Tropic. At 6am we woke up to heavy rain so we decided to go back to sleep until it pass. Had fun exploring some of the locks and channels! It's nice that so much is walkable. The system was completed in 1959. It's brought many benefits but also negatives like invasive species. It's interesting how they operate to manage the volume and force of water. Valley of Fire 🔥 This is such a beautiful state park! I wish we had more time to spend here, but when you pack in a lot in one trip, it's impossible to see it all. The colors of the rocks were amazing and a little over an hour from Vegas. If you're heading to Zion, it would be a great spot to stop and take in the beauty. You can get a great workout as well.
