STORIE DI ROMA. Il santuario della Madonna del Divino Amore è un santuario di Roma composto da due chiese: quella antica è del 1745, l'altra del 1999. È una meta di pellegrinaggio cara ai romani, ed ogni sabato dalla primavera ad ottobre si tiene un pellegrinaggio notturno a piedi da Roma al santuario. Secondo la leggenda, nella primavera del 1740 un pellegrino, diretto alla basilica di San Pietro, si smarrisce nell'inospitale e insalubre campagna nei pressi di Castel di Leva, circa 12 km a sud di Roma. Scorti alcuni casali e un castello diroccato in cima ad una collina, il viandante vi si dirige sperando di trovare qualcuno che gli dia informazioni per trovare la giusta strada. Viene però assalito da un branco di cani rabbiosi che lo circondano. Il pellegrino, alzando lo sguardo, si accorge che sulla torre del castello c'è un'icona che raffigura la Vergine con il Bambino, sovrastata dalla colomba dello Spirito Santo. Invoca perciò la Madonna che lo salvi da quel pericolo. Le bestie che gli sono addosso di colpo si fermano e si dileguano. I pastori che sono nella zona, richiamati dalle urla del viandante, accorrono sul posto e, ascoltato il suo racconto, lo rimettono sulla strada per Roma. This Wednesday marks Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. IWM London has commissioned our amazing facilitators Sindy and Ben Czureja to write a song inspired by an object on display; a poetry book written in a concentration camp by a teenage Austrian-Roma called Johann Stojka. Ben and Sindy will perform the original song as well as the traditional song 'Where are the Mountains?' throughout the day this Saturday at IWM London. Book No 3 of the Outline trilogy . I actually had some funny experiences with this book. Not the contents, but actually with physical copies of the book. Strap in for a tale - The first copy, pictured, I left on a bench in a tote bag in this very park in Rome - twenty minutes later we returned to find the tote and book were nowhere to be seen, though the rest of the bag's contents were there, sat on the bench. Mysterious. Was the opportunist thief really interested in my English language lit fiction book? Surely a low resale value. I returned home to England (bereft) and soon went to the closest library that had a copy on shelf to borrow, to finish it. But the library didn't have it. The librarian was baffled, because it should have been there. We looked everywhere to no avail, and I requested a copy from a nearer library branch. When I got the notification that it had arrived and I excitedly went to collect it, it was likewise nowhere to be found. Another look everywhere, another baffled librarian. I was almost amused at this point, questioning, could there be a serial 'Kudos' thief following me from country to country, library to library, to mess with my head?? But luckily this story has a happy enough ending, and the lovely librarian found a hardback version (not the one reserved for me) and I finally got to finish the trilogy. . Odd ending (to the book), in odd circumstances, but overall I really enjoyed this strange distant prose style series from Cusk. This was more detatched prose from a narrator who we find out very little of, only what she notices and the long stories others tell her while she attends a literary festival in an unnamed country. . Here at DD HQ we are stoking the campfire already as our Summer Term swings into action, introducing the third and final instalment of our celebration of storytelling: 🔥TALES BY FIRELIGHT 🔥 This time we will focus on Roma Stories: tales belonging to the rich and magical culture of those we have often known as gypsies. With their origins tracing back to South Asia, a part of the world deeply connected to divination, prophecy and enchantment, this folklore is one of deeply compelling mystery from which we have much to learn… As ever we seek to discover worlds other than our own through the medium of stories, uncovering both the differences and that which makes us alike. We believe children benefit hugely from gaining understanding of different cultures this way, and it's nothing new - the ancient tradition of telling stories round the fire is as old as the hills, and a welcome antidote to our modern world of screens! We've loved Tales by Firelight, and hope you have too. You can still bring along a friend this week for a taster so if you’d like to do so drop us a line to see if there’s space in that workshop. Die Ausstellung wird im FREIEN UND ÜBERDACHT im Innenhof des ReBBZ Bildung Wilhelmsburg in der Zeidlerstrasse 50 gezeigt. Die Erarbeitung der Ausstellung wurde von LI begleitet um eine Qualitätssicherung für die Hamburger Schulen, die das primäre Zielpublikum sind, zu gewährleisten. Die Ausstellung wird kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt. Es empfiehlt sich selbst ein Bild zu machen um die Ausstellung an ihre Schule zu holen. In diesem Zusammenhang bieten wir auch Kurse, Workshops und Fortbildungen sowohl für SuS wie auch Kollegien an. Michal Kupczak. Born 1883. I heard he came over in the bottom of a boat filled with cattle. He was a POW forced to fight with the Ottomans. During World War 1 he was being put on a POW ship headed for the "colonies" He thought he snuck away and got on a ship that was going to Australia. Unfortunately he got on one that was going to Canada. He was a slave for the British crown working the coal mines after he spent time in a prisoner-of-war camp in Lethbridge. I was told he was sold to a farm for a few years to work. His wife, my grandmother Victoria, was stuck in Poland until after the second World War. She lost a set of twin boys from starvation. She hid under pig barns from murderous troops of many persuasions. Our people always seems to lose their first born . After 16 years she saw her husband again when she came to Canada to bring him back to Poland. Her oldest daughter, my Auntie Staffie was 16 when she came to Canada. He said he wanted to stay because he didn't think there were any Nazis here. He was wrong. He had to go to Pincher Creek every two weeks and register with the government as a mine worker. After World War 2 the building disappeared. He and the other miners kept going every two weeks. If they didn't they were scared that they would be shipped back to Germany. They had no idea what their status was in Canada. Can you imagine what they thought when they saw all the relatives on the film reels after Aushwitz Liberation? My aunt went to look for any family. They were all gone. The hell our grandparents went through. And now what people are still going through. Once in Canada they had four more children. My mom and my aunts and uncles. My mom told me he was a very gentle man. He loved his chickens. Once he tried to raise pigeons but every time he chopped off their head they flew away so you decided to not do that again. 😅 The last years of his life were spent in a mental hospital ... ponoka ... suffering from dementia and poor lungs from coal mining. #roma #romastories #canadatruth
