This sign caught my eye and reminded me of my own experience on welfare. Divorce-driven poverty can look like a woman in a checkout lane, with a Guess bag on her arm and Calvin Klein clothes from head-to-toe. Perception is only a lens on what should be instead of what is. The experience below happened to me at a pivotal moment in my journey to becoming who I am today. I am grateful for it. Why am I sharing it with you? Because I want you to know that the perceptions of others are irrelevant when you are the protector and defender of your children. In shamanism, it's understood that there are many realities, and we experience the one that we actively feed. This is not an act of denying the perceptions of one’s experience, but more about how we choose to respond to them. When I was severely ill, my first perception of the state I was in was very dire. And it was. But, I gave the illness power over me. I attributed every symptom to the illness, and that further disempowered me. As I became more and more scared of my symptoms, and I grew more and more disabled. After hitting rock bottom, I began to change my perception of the illness and saw it as a tough-love teacher. I surrendered to the lessons the illness brought me, and as I grieved my old life, I relinquished my hold on it and turned to face the new life awaiting me - as mysterious as it was. I had to spend time going within to ask myself, "What does the life that I want look and feel like?" Once I saw that vision, I grabbed onto it and wouldn’t let go. Moving through challenges takes a bit of acceptance of the current reality, mixed with surrender of the past, and a strong envisioning of what is actually possible. We all have the capacity to dream up our reality. What kind of reality are you dreaming up? Between January & March this year we were commissioned by the @universityofleeds Cultural Institute to listen to community members in & around Woodhouse Moor 📍to explore perceptions and experiences of the historically rich but at times reputational-ly challenged 'Green Lungs of Leeds' 🌱🐞🛝 We hired a locally rooted engagement lead 💯@emmabfox listened to locals and organisations through pop ups, a digital survey, walk & talks in the park and protected events with pre-existing groups who might not access or use the park often. We also convened a group of 12 locals of all ages who were reimbursed for their time & worked with us over three sessions to collaboratively design ideas and interventions that will be tested over the summer to explore the impacts in terms of making the Moor feel safer and more welcoming for everyone. Mon flow est bleu ! Le bleu est symbole d’apaisement et d’harmonie, de paix et de douceur. Souvent associé à notre chère planète bleue et à l’océan, il est aussi le symbole d’un espace infini de liberté et de possibles. Le bleu est associé au rêve, à l’évasion... Il est cet espace que j’aime rejoindre, et peut-être dont je suis en quête perpétuelle, c’est mon graal à moi ! Il me permet de couper avec l’hyper-perception du monde qui m’entoure (oui ça fait un mois que je ne suis pas venue par ici 🙀 j’avoue, j’avais besoin d’une pause !!! ) et qui peut parfois être source d’épuisement émotionnel voire physique. Rencontrer cet espace apaisant et harmonieux, cet espace de possibles et de cette infinie liberté à être, qui est là, en chacun de nous, pour certaines personnes, cela peut être compliqué. Nous avons chacun nos moyens d’y parvenir. Moi je le rencontre quand je peins et aussi bien souvent quand je m’auto-induis un état d’hypnose, mais les deux sont étroitement liés en vrai. Sais tu que des études ont prouvé que les ondes cérébrales observées pendant l’état de flow (les ondes alpha) sont similaires que celles observées lorsque nous sommes sous hypnose. Du coup, parfois, quand je suis trop dans le mental, hop, je me mets en état de conscience modifié et je trouve le bleu en moi beaucoup plus facilement !
