I made a size 12 but did have to bring in the armscye by a few cm…next time I will try making a 10 and grading out to a 12 at the bust and waist. Another thrift flip! I bought this hand stitched grandmothers garden pattern quilt top at Round Top last year and have been struggling to decide what to do with it. Since it wasn’t finished it was too lightweight to use as a picnic blanket and too stained to want to finish and make a finished quilt. I decided to cut her up and make a little set. I have a lot of mixed feelings about cutting up vintage/ handmade quilts. Since I have been working for a long time on my own English paper pieced hexi quilt I understand the time that was put into these heirlooms. I never want to disrespect that, but I also feel that these pieces are too beautiful to live in storage, so I made her new. . I love the skirt which is self drafted, elastic waist and kept the unfinished hem. I had to do some hand stitching reinforce the bottom hexies and I think it’s very cute. I don’t love the top- I used a pattern from Etsy that came out way too big, and in an effort to adjust it ended up too tight. I think as a set it’s a bit much- so I tried styling it a few different ways! I love this skirt though and have already worn it several times. Did a little thrift flip of this Mango jumpsuit that I got at Goodwill a while back. It’s a stretchy synthetic fabric and I really didn’t like how the bulk of the wrap and tie around my waist felt so I never wore it (original on last slide). I decided to chop it up and make pants using the ties to make a waist band. When I cut the top off I realized that I could serge the bottom and tie into a little tie from top. So now I have a set instead of just pants! I did a flat front elastic back waist band because I think it’s more flattering than full elastic but they are hard to get up over my hips. As I grow older, unless I’m attending a special event, I don’t want to spend EXCESSIVE TIME DRESSING TO SIMPLY GO OUT IN PUBLIC. I do, however, still want to look well-put-together. To solve this problem, I rely on a few SIMPLE FOUNDATION GARMENTS like a black turtleneck and pants, or neutral solid-color knit dresses I can easily pull on over my head in seconds. I then simply drape an EXTRA-LARGE BOLDLY PRINTED SCARF over one shoulder and secure it with TWO MAGNETS (one under the shoulder seam of my garment, the other sewn into a tiny pocket on a strip of fabric which I tie around the middle of the scarf). I make these over-sized rectangular scarves FROM THRIFTED CLOTHING AND OTHER TEXTILES. The one I’m wearing here (82 x 43 inches) was MADE FROM A KAFTAN, but I also use old curtains, banners, tablecloths, etc. (Note: It’s important that the fabric be PRINTED ON BOTH SIDES if you want to let your scarf fly freely, as I do.) So, there you have it. With two little magnets and an infinite number of over-sized, eye-catching, inexpensive scarves, you can generate a striking FULL BODY BACK-AND-FRONT STATEMENT LOOK in less than a minute. And, if you are like me, you may also want to add a hat – that way you don’t even have to fix your hair. A new couple James and Louis ❤️ Since I rerooted James (Ken Extra originally had brown hair with green strands) in July 2023, I decided he would be a wizard. And so I wanted him to have a superhero boyfriend (don’t ask me about my logic) 🤷♀️🤣 At first I thought Samuel (Fashionista 162) could play this role, but he’s not articulated, so it didn’t work 😅 And I left this idea aside. Of course, I hoped to one day have a muscular Ken looking like I imagined. But I didn’t think this idea would come true. And then I saw the first photos of Louis, muscular, handsome, with the perfect hairstyle and face mold that I wanted to have in my collection since Barbie Basics… It was like he was made from my dreams 😱 So I immediately separated James and Rachel (they were dating since I thought James would never have a boyfriend like Louis), Rachel started dating Eric (see my previous post 😂). This is my first attempt at the #hanbokwrapskirt which I have been eyeing for the longest time. I made it is this beautiful lightweight linen which a I found in @eurokangas_helsinki #eurokangaspalalaarit. Interestingly , I bought the pattern but was confused by it. I went on #youtube and found a great tutorial. No pattern needed and here she is. I made mine a maxi as I intend to used here for performance. @02jessicah made this dress for her lockdown birthday a few years ago. Back then we didn’t have overlockers, so she hand rolled-hemmed 10 metres of fabric for HOURS. Whilst discussing Hen Do outfits she reminded me that I had the dress in a vacuum bag, so I whipped it out a rehemmed it in bright yellow in minutes. God bless overlockers.
