SHAHJAHANI MOSQUE . . . This mosque was built for the soldiers of mughal emperor Shah Jahan during the construction of the city Shahjahanabad. The Nawab of Pataudi later bought it after the revolt of 1857 and then a rich Hindu businessman bought it. #pataudi #shahjahani #oldhistoricalplaces #mosque

As far back into the depths of my now-distant childhood that I can remember, Khurram/Shāh Jahān was always my favourite - could you ever find a greater or flashier embodiment of the 'Indo-Timurid Dream' ? With timely intervention of age and nuance, Akbar and Aurangzeb slowly began to encroach upon the fifth 'Great Mughal's hitherto untouchable pedestal. Every now and again, however, Shihāb al-Dīn Muhammad - born on this day in A.D. 1592, the year of the first Islamic Millennium - rather dramatically pulls me back, reminding the forever-infatuated 'fan' within about where the loyalties should lie. How on earth could anyone else in the dynasty lay claim to your attention along the Ānā Sāgar on an idyllic winter morning, marble providing a soaring canvas to the man's legendary aesthetic grace for the umpteenth time, water complementing the pleasures of the land here just as much as at Āgrā/Akbarābād or Dehlī/Shāhjahānābād ? The 'King of the World' knew more than a thing or two about pleasure and its most refined forms, and mere ordinary mortals shall always fall prey to their arresting spells; let alone, Akbarābādī. #tajmahal #tajmahalpalace #tajmahalindia #india #indian #indianfood #mughals #shahjahan #mango #kikkererwten #shahjahani #heygroentje

The principles of Shahjahani architecture, which interact closely with one another, can be identified as follows: 1. Geometrical planning. 2. Symmetry. Favored in particular is bilateral symmetry, for which we even have a term in contemporary descriptions of buildings, namely, qarºna,31 an Arabic word that expresses the notion of pairing and counterparts but also of integration, thus fitting conceptually into the ideas of universal harmony that played a great role in the imperial ideology of Shah Jahan. In a typical Shahjahani qarºna scheme, two symmetrical features, one mirroring the other, are arranged on both sides of a central, dominant feature. 3. Hierarchy. This is the overriding principle, which governs all the others. 4. Proportional formulas expressed in triadic divisions. 5. Uniformity of shapes, ordered by hierarchical accents. 6. Sensuous attention to detail. 7. Selective use of naturalism. 8. Symbolism. (EBBA KOCH, THE TAJ MAHAL: ARCHITECTURE, SYMBOLISM, AND URBAN SIGNIFICANCE) Both pictures were taken by me, during one autumn evening at Taj. . . . #tajmahal #taj #monument #mughals #mughalhistory #mughalsofindia #medievalindia #medievalhistory #indianhistory #historical #medievalarchitecture #mughalarchitecture #mughalmonuments #marble #agra #17thcentury #ebbakoch #symbolism #shahjahan #padshahnama #lahori #architecture #shahjahani

I know we don't have good restaurants around here but it hasn't been bothering me as I have a private chef called Sambar who cooks when I am busy and I can ask anything I want to eat. Today, I asked Shahjahani plov and prawn curry! He put good amount of dried coconuts chunks for me. It was extra special and I felt like a Mughal princess. Eid Mubarak!

The mosque is located in eastern Thatta - the capital of Sindh in the 16th and 17th centuries. The site is approximately 100 kilometres from Karachi. Shah Jahan sought refuge in Thatta from his father Emperor Jahangir, after he had rebelled against his father.Shah Jahan was impressed by the hospitality he received by the Sindhi people, and ordered construction of the mosque as a token of gratitude. The Shah Jahan Mosque's architectural style is overtly influenced by Turkic and Persian styles. The mosque is characterized by extensive brickwork and the use of blue tiles, both of which were directly influenced by Timurid architectural styles. The mosque's tiles work is breathtaking it represent a direct influence of the Timurid style. The mosque employs symmetrical Cobalt blue ,turqoise manganese violet and white tiles. #heritagestyle #mughalheritage #shahjahanmosque #jamiamasjid #thatha #sind #persianart #turkic #uzbekiarchitecture #visitpakistan #mughalarchitecture #samrkand #jashnebahara #UNESCO #maklinecropolis #shahjahani #masjidbeauty #colorsofgreece #blueisthecolour #mycolor #archeologicalsite #pakistanarcheology #pakistanday #lovepakistanbuildpakistan

Seven year old picture. I clicked this in 2013 when I visited the Jama Masjid for the first time. Delhi was a city I saw in pictures or movies, read about in books before this. Living in Delhi was never on my list, but I am here and happily a Dilli wala now. Every corner of this city is love. 奶油咖哩雞塊 ($108) Shahjahani Butter Chicken (HKD108) Let's pigged out on this boneless barbecued chicken cooked in mouth-watering "masala", made with dry fruits, onions and spices based creamy butter sauce. Spinach Garlic Rice ($58) This rice included spinach, garlic, and chili. Slightly spicy & distinctive aroma - made it that perfectly matched with the butter chicken.

Akbarabadi will always have his Akbarabad, even if much of everything else might at times appear blurry. I may not be as forlorn as Shah Jahan staring out across the Jamna at his Taj from the cruelly exquisite prison of the Muthamman Burj, but the pangs of 'longing' and 'coveting' retain enough sweetened venom from the distances of Hazrat-e Dehli or Calcutta, both fellow imperial capitals at different times. Strange conundrum, 'longing' - sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden, sometimes expressed, sometimes concealed. When these lines are uncertain and things remain unsaid, we turn to take solace in our greatest passions, most steadfast companions - mine just happens to be a time-capsule stretched along an ancient river and the family from a faraway land who made it the theatre of their most ambitious dreams. Give an exam, that too in a language you're only beginning to get a hang of, while sitting at home ? Check. Two decades of incessant papers as a student and research scholar, but there's still time for a surreal 'first'. Aur kyaa kyaa gul khilaaoge, ae Corona ? Speaking of 'gul', these sandstone blossoms and patterns hark back to a time when exam-days would ideally grow into wanderings after the exit from the confines of the hall, the mighty tussle of pen and mind at an end. Going home early was not an option, as ridiculous as it may sound today. And speaking of that 'language' mentioned earlier, the patrons behind the creativity on display here excelled in that tongue to say the least, transforming Hindostân once again into a paradise for its effervescence. #onthisday This day in 1631 saw the death of in childbirth of Mumtaz Mahal, the favourite wife of Shah Jahan I, the Mughal emperor. The emperor then commissioned the building of the Taj Mahal, a marble mausoleum on the southern bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. His own tomb is also contained within it alongside that of his wife. The mausoleum is the centrepiece of a 42-acre site with formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost of around 32 million rupees (about £800,000,000 today). The construction employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects. The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and attracts 7–8 million visitors a year. #history #india #tajmahal #agra #mumtazmahal #shahjahani #unescoworldheritagesite

On 3rd March, 1707, hundreds of miles away from the comforts of Shahjahanabad and the heartland of his Hindustaani empire, an aged, broken and yet unbowed emperor, the 'Siezer of the World', breathed his last in his camp, still in the midst of a campaign that had sapped him and his realm for two and a half decades and had permanently removed him from the palaces and gardens of his Timurid forefathers. In one such palatial pleasure-pavillion and Char Bagh garden on the outskirts of Shahjahanabad, in a dramatically different, lavish occasion, a younger man had fulfilled his imperial ambitions. Of course, before the monarch, there was Aurangzeb - almost undoubtedly the most talented, experienced and determined man to ever lay claim to the Mughal throne. And his 49-year long saga as Alamgir, Padshah Ghazi, began here, in the once beautiful Shalimar Bagh outside Hazrat-e Dehli, the capital, which he had reached after campaigning and out-dueling Dara and Shuja, out-smarting Murad and imprisoning Shah Jahan in the War of Succession. He would be coronated here on the 13th of June, 1659. The rest, as I've heard people say, were the vagaries of unkind history. The last strokes of Shahjahani opulence still adorn the forgotten walls of the pavillion which once witnessed the giant strides of will and fortitude... Shalimar Bagh, Hazrat-e Dehli. 'Yaa takht, yaa takhtaa!' 'Yaa takht, yaa taabuut!' Interestingly enough, when Bunty scratched his head at the mention of 'taabuut' and got a mouthful from Gaitonde, Bongs like me (at least those growing up in a neo-Timurid environment) enjoyed a nice little smirk, since this expression, usually in the context of the war of succession of 1657-59 that replaced Shah Jahan as the emperor, was commonly repeated from time to time. Indeed, with the stakes being unimaginably high and the ultimate prize being the richest throne on earth, enterprising princes of the blood, once having grown up together, engaged in a struggle that would either win them the imperial seat or the heavenly grave. This was our own game of thrones, and there could only be one winner. Shuja, Aurangzeb, and Murad Bakhsh: Mughal Miniature, 38.7 x 26 cm. c. 1637. Attributed to Balchand.
