A tablet can be viewed, read, touched, smelled, and involves the viewer's body. All Tablets have two sides: the image (sketch / photo) and a quote (writing / photo). Several tablets are organised into library bodies and correspond to the structure of my personal Dictionary of quotations. You can create a kit featuring your practice's go-to colors, fonts, and logos. I've been thinking through the bonds and gifts shared between cloth, women and plants as I add new dyed sections to this piece. 'Interludes with Madder' is now over 70 metres in length (a little bit of a wild guess from my last count, as it takes an age to unravel and reravel!) Did you know that certain therapy apps have been known to take legal action against therapists who speak out about their shady business practices? We can’t name any names 🙃 But here’s what we CAN say! 💕In 2020, tech companies spent 2.4 billion investing in mental health treatment platforms. 💰 Some of these tech companies make $$ by gathering huge groups of therapists in a “gig economy” model and providing low-cost therapy while spending tons of $$$ advertising with influencers on social media 🚕 😭The issue is that therapy is not meant to be in a “gig economy.” 🙃 These companies have strategic advertising that promotes their services as more “accessible.” 🙈However, they aren’t providing more accessible services to clients with financial needs. Instead, they are lowering the average cost of therapy across the marketplace regardless of financial need. Many of these companies pay therapists LESS than insurance companies but don’t allow clients to use in-network benefits. 👍🏻Therapists should be valued and paid fairly for their expertise, experience, and education. 💻Some tech companies paid therapists BY WORD COUNT in a text message. Some pay therapists $30 while charging clients $80. 😝This model of care does not support the ethical and legal considerations we take on as therapists. Some apps don’t guarantee that they won’t sell client data. ✋ What can be done? "I'm so excited to share that in the last month, I've had 18 consultation requests and gained 10 new clients from Instagram! Overall, I'm averaging about 12 sessions a week, which is near my goal of 15-20 sessions per week. Just a month ago, I was only seeing maybe one or two clients a week, so I'm really grateful to see a return on my Instagram investment. Sustainability: Sustainable practices support ecological, human, and economic health and vitality. - pulled from a UCLA definition Having a sustainable business means a few things to me: it means respecting our environment and leaving it a place where my son and any future generations can enjoy and thrive. It means finding ways to recycle and reuse products to their upmost abilities. We don’t use floral foam. We try to rent and share vessels or give a second life to that thrift store treasure. It means prioritizing local farmers and foraged flora to support the community in our own backyards and to be mindful of our carbon footprint. This is a work in progress but it is progress. Trying to make sense of these works-in-progress on this Earth Day. I’ve been using reclaimed old art work (mine) and materials to make new work for quite awhile now (since 2015 or so). These pieces are made of old paintings on paper cut into strips and woven through reclaimed food netting--the onion bags, turkey bags, potato bags, etc.--that vegetables, fruit, and poultry come in (all washed before re-use, of course).
