Team rider @robfowlie chases waves of consequence that would keep most of us in the car park..   When we first received the photos of Rob surfing these waves, all of us in the office asked the same question.. Why?   So we’d thought we’d ask him. Here is his response.   “My introduction to big wave surfing took place at our local gem, the Cribbar reef in Newquay. This spot earns its nickname the widow maker, and for good reason.. It’s a world-class big wave destination that demands respect. I soon realised the immense power of this break that separates it from your average beach breaking wave! On occasions, I’d be sitting too deep on the inside and getting caught out with the end results being a long tedious swim back with half a surf board remaining, if I was lucky!  I decided to invest in my self, my training and my equipment to give myself the best possible chance to catch one of these mysterious beasts.   I guess my drive is a burning desire to reach my full potential! The day I caught my first ever wave was no different to the same thrill as catching my first 10ft wave.. I have now reached a place where the waves are physically too big to paddle into and the means of being towed into the waves are where we have been putting our foundations the past couple of seasons so that we are ready for the biggest of days ahead.   I started chasing this dream when I made a few deep life decisions.. one of which was ending my unhealthy relationship with alcohol after a sudden family bereavement in order to start living a more fulfilling life.   I live my life one day at time now and have a few close friends in my corner. ANCIENT DROVEWAY. narrow, deeply sunken and edged with trees, hedges, wildflower rich verges and boundary banks. The dense and radial pattern of narrow lanes in a region represents a very visible survival of ancient transhumant routes, a cycle of moving livestock to upper and lower pastures throughout the seasons. This ancient drove in particular is in North Devon, connecting two villages together, Saunton and Forda by a section of high ground. So it turns out the rumours are all true! @kellyslater is buying the Grand Designs house in Croyde! A spokesperson for Kelly said "Kelly has been eyeing up North Devon for several years after hearing how good the waves are! The solid, consistent waves, coupled with exceptional water quality and friendly locals have all led to the decision for him and Kalani Miller to make North Devon their home. The weather was another factor, as were the very reasonable parking charges at the other local beaches! He'd also heard about the GOATs at Lynmouth and was very much looking forward to meeting them.
