2024 Oklahoma Memorial Marathon “Why We Run” 5k/Marathon/Half-Marathon is complete!! We took it easy on the 5k since we were using it as a shake out run. Then gave it our all on the marathon/half marathon! I got a 14 minute PR!! Wills knee held out but man those hills are a lot! I am so beyond proud of my hunny!! Rained a little bit and it was pretty windy!! Overall great race! I think I swell up when I run! It’s crazy the difference before race and post race!! Oh well! This race was pretty great! I think I finally have my nutrition down thanks to @themacrocounselor! Training really well thanks to @coach.croft !! Now I’ve been taking it easy and resting the leggies!! Recovering with my #nuunhydration and @resiliencecbd cream! I need to order some more bath bombs!! Next up cinco de mayo on Friday! Then we will be focusing on shorter distance and speed before going back into marathon training in June for @htcrelay , @chimarathon & @nycmarathon !! Decided to cancel our race in June to give our bodies a break! 7 marathons, countless Half’s, hood to coast relay, 10ks, 5 ks and tons of training, is a lot for about a year and a half so taking it easier during may! Another 26.2 in the books. I’m not going to lie, this one felt good. Well, most of it, but anyone who says they feel good 100% of a marathon should not be trusted and I consider myself a decently trustworthy person. I PR’d and ran the race I wanted the Route 66 to be before COVID decided to make its first visit to the Cox-Wylie household. This course had way more hills and sneaky inclines than I expected, but I felt prepared since I specifically practiced walking quickly up hills to keep my heart rate down, breathing under control, and preserve my energy. In the scheme of things, 11:15 per mile isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s the pace that supported me as I chased and achieved my goal time. It’s also the pace that allowed me to feel good, run even, and show up for myself with kindness and grace throughout all 26.2 miles. A huge thank you (as always), to @cwylie8642 for supporting me in every way during the race but also during four months and many hours of training (I love you so much). Shout out to Matt for the company and patience on long runs in the stretch of prep when it’s easy to get discouraged and exhausted by the grind. Beautiful day for a marathon in Tulsa!! This was a good one. It felt good to shred the pavement for 26.2 miles this morning. It's been a couple of years since I've run a full, and what a way to come back! I think I ran a smart race, we planned to be in the 2:55 range to start and then feel it out. The weather was great, a little headwind, but nothing my legs couldn't handle. Hit the first half around 1:26 and was feeling good, so I mashed on the gas a little and hit the cruise control. I was able to finish strong, running mile 26 at 6:15, and could have easily run a few more. This was my 12th marathon, and I've always crossed the finish line riding the struggle bus, not this time. I must thank my brother. Being a smaller race, they do what they can in terms of aid stations (and a great job they did, thank you !!). My brother was there to fill in the gaps with hydration, towels, gels, and solid banter. He also played the Mike Tyson's Punchout training music (Little Mac following his coach on the bike where you get the password ;), which got me super amped and served as a great laugh. I couldn't have made this happen without support. In the end, the big picture of surviving a marathon is amazingly mental. Just your thought process and remaining positive throughout the race is critical, and in the past, I have certainly fallen victim to my own self-destruction. Having my bro there really served as a boost, and for all I know, made all the difference. . At 42 years old, I was thinking, this could be my last one. Well today didn’t go quite as expected. I’ve been having a lot of shoulder pain so I finally gave in and went to the orthopedic dr. Turns out I may have a torn rotator cuff. Got a cortisone shot, have to do some PT and go back in a few weeks for an MRI. But no excuses from me!! Training must go on so I came home and got my run in!! Decided on the treadmill because it was extremely windy this afternoon!! I took it easy on pace for tonight. 4 semi-easy miles today. After my HR jumping so much during a run a few days ago, I intentionally went 🐢 S L O W 🐢. My goal was to keep HR decent and try to still run the whole time. I managed it! 🙌🏼 Running after a race is so dang humbling though and it’s definitely been a pride check for me. As much as I want to get back to speeds preparing for Bentonville half, my body wants to chill and recover. My pace today was over 2 1/2min slower per mile than I ran the half. ✨ Wow ✨ Today was an awesome day. It felt amazing to see all my hard work payoff. @runbentonville was a fun race and my only complaint was the dang hill at the end (seriously, over 150ft elevation gain within one mile 😵💫). I fueled well, my legs were turning over, and I got to run an amazing half with my Runner Girl Gang. What more could a gal want? 🩵 Huge thank you to @indianarunnergirl for training me up and believing in my goal of wanting to snag a sub 2:30. Today wasn’t easy by any means, but her training made me feel confident on what I could do. I got all four my runs in while on vacation this week AND today with the post vacation hangover 😅 I have worked so hard to be consistent during this training cycle and it’s paying off. Spent the day at the beach tanning, reading and snorkeling. Came back to the ship to eat then went straight to get my run in for the day!! I think I can now say I am under fueling at home because I’m so worried about gaining weight because I am feeling great during my runs this week!! I guess I need to do better @themacrocounselor !! Today was a huge WTF? I was feeling so good and then I looked down when I thought I had two-ish miles to go and then my watch said I was done. It glitched and somehow screwed up my miles. I think it rallied finally towards the end and I even ran another .5mi when it ended because I had no idea where I should be mileage wise. All I know is I did have a solid workout and some really good miles thrown in there! First run back after last Sundays marathon in Little Rock….completed the NYC United Airlines Virtual Half Marathon!!! Will ran the first half with me then I went on to finish by myself. Took it super easy per @coach.croft orders!! Encountered many LARGE groups of teenagers on the running path….large police presence….plus almost got punched as I was running through what I thought was just a large group blocking my only path, but ended up being a large fight!! No bueno!! Finally posting about my Little Rock Marathon and Wills half!! Unfortunately the hills kicked my butt!!! Mile 14-19 or 20 I believe was brutal!!! I trained for hills but definitely not enough! I was dead after that so I hit a wall. Took me over 5 hours, not super proud of that but I finished and that is all that matters in the end!! The medal is huge friends!! Bigger than my head and it’s SO heavy!! I swear it’s 3 lbs!!! Will did awesome!! His time wasn’t accurate since we had to split at mile 6 so he stopped and waited for me to come back from my extra miles so he could keep running with me! So he added probably 25+ minutes! He’s amazing!! Well anyone that knows me personally, knows that I have an overwhelming desire to prove to everyone around me that I am not a failure. Tend to do this to the point of being dumb. Apparently that’s where we are currently in life! I know why I do this but I have no idea how to stop doing this. I literally can’t help myself. I push and push myself. This time I’m pissed at myself for doing so. My calves are healed and not bothering me but the liquid filled knot doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Google tells me it’s a good chance that it’s a tibialis anterior hernia. I did take off since Thursday to give it a break. But ran a super easy run today since I have a marathon on Sunday. It doesn’t hurt me so I am still going to run. But I’m going to go see a dr for sure now. I’ll be making the call first thing in the morning since we will be there already for wills appointment. Yesterday’s run was not a good one! I had to cut it short unfortunately! My legs and feet are still extremely swollen from all the walking in NYC & the plane! During my run my legs were cramping and I looked down and noticed a liquid filled large knot by my ankle. So I called it and moved on with life! Wearing compression socks and drinking plenty of water to try and help it out!!
