A slow walk to keep the legs moving after yesterday’s AWESOME @runbaybridgehalf Bay Bridge Half Marathon! • For some reason I do well running on bridges. I’ve run this race in 2:13:X and 2:15:X before, so my goal was to come in somewhere around those times. Instead, I pushed hard right at the start, stayed consistent and came in at 2:08:02! 💪🏼 • This was my best finish since 2018 and 5th best finish ever (out of 346 Halfs)!! Felt strong throughout and got lucky with no issues to slow me down. • I can see myself getting faster this year but can’t take it for granted. Medal Monday: Marathon # 12✅ Yesterday, I completed the Maine Coast Marathon @mainecoastrun After a successful 18 week training cycle, I was on track to finish my marathon in 3:45-3:50. Based on that fact, my 4:30 finish time was a big disappointment. However, based on how I felt during the marathon, that 4:30 finish time was a definite win. My belly was messed up from early miles and (not sharing specifics here) I was sicker than I have ever been during a marathon. I dug deep and found the strength, courage, and grit to complete the marathon. That was my win! In the words of my friend @smalltowntxfarmgirl : Wasn’t the race I wanted but any day I can finish a marathon is a great day. Distance running has my heart and fills my soul. I will run a marathon again. My intention when I originally registered a while ago was to try to chase my PR at the @500festival #IndyMini yesterday. It’s my current half marathon PR course. However, with less than ideal weather conditions and recovering from a concussion, Coach @sugarruns and I decided to race cautiously. After running through the Speedway and feeling overheated, I decided not to push and pull back to where I was more comfortable. 🥵 It wasn’t worth it to me to risk getting ill when I’m toeing the line for Chicago 13.1 in a month. I got water every chance I got, dumped water on my head, and ran through the sprinklers. 💦 At any rate, I’m considering this my Concussion HM PR. (Is that such a thing?) 🤣 You can see my wounds covered with sunscreen, but I consider yesterday a success. I nailed my nutrition and hydration as I didn’t cramp. I was able to navigate the aid stations without PTSD. Without being heat-acclimated, I was able to run without taking walk breaks even with humidity at 92% at the start. I was able to run strong even though we had to reduce the training load in April as I recovered. Long run on a new to me trail this afternoon. It was a nice paved loop, about 5ish miles. I had to go a little extra to hit my 70 minutes. It was a sunny, upper 60s kind of day, but a nice breeze, but I don’t think I’ll be back on this trail too much over the summer because there’s not a lot of shade. Lots of dogs out, and everyone was pretty friendly - either smiling, waving, or the head nod. Legs felt pretty good and my run pace was keeping around 11:30ish after the warmup. I was planning 4/1 intervals, but then decoded around 10 mins that I was going to run as much as I could and walk on the inclines as needed. Ended with 5.57 miles and a 12:35 pace. I got in all of my runs this week and also some strength and cross training. I would have laughed even harder if you told me I did it 8 years in a row. This was the most evenly paced one I’ve done and my HR stayed around zone 2, so I’m excited to see what happens once I get some speed back in this left leg 🦵🏻

Maybe a deep tissue massage wasn’t a great idea. Honestly it really was worth it, but my back today said nope. Tried today around 2 pm, which is incredibly stupid for South Mississippi, but yolo! My back wasn’t just cooperating so I basically walked and ran almost two miles. Did get on the foam roller after and it helped a lot. Yesterday I did a 5k heart walk yesterday with my company. Today I got my son and took him to a Lego convention, and he had a blast. He built the robot and I made a spaceship something. What comes after the prom? It’s #PittsburghMarathon weekend! I did the new 4-mile fitness challenge with @barchiesidawn Ran 1/2 mile to the challenge, then run again, do another challenge, and so on. Six stations: - weighted lunges for 25 yards, - 3-lb jump rope X100, - 25yards sand bag carry and 50 yards flipping tires, - army crawl, sled pull, and 30sec hang (I can’t do pull-ups, yet. This runner don’t have much arm power), - climbed the 75-foot blow-up obstacle course, FUN! -last station: 15 burpees, 25 squats, 60 sec plank, 25 push-ups Phew! Then we’re off to run to the finish line! It was a challenging and fun event! Glad to be able to participate this weekend and see my running friends before and along the course. Like I said, I only ran it once… and unpopular opinion, it’s just not for me. It’s too many people for 10 miles. It’s the largest 10 mile race in the country, over 40,000 runners!!! The culmination of the @fleetfeetcarrboro_durham trail running program was this morning. I had worked my magic and convinced several in or group to run, but unfortunately two friends in town and two injuries in the last week meant our group was small but mighty. My trail running partner Marianne humored me and we wore bright tutus for the race. We were the only tutus out there. My plan was to let her lead so I could try to push my pace a bit, or I would lead and let her being behind me push me. My goals were to have fun and cross the finish line, ideally with no injuries.
While waiting for the race start, we found one of the other ladies who had run with us in the trail group, R. R had fallen four weeks ago on our trail run and hadn’t been back, so we were happy to see her. We also found J, whom we had met at the race preview. The four of us started out together. The first .3 miles is downhill on the road. Then we hit single track. Just as we entered the woods about .4 miles after the start, I saw a girl on the side who looked in pain. We stopped to check on her. She had such really bad shin splints. We walked slowly a bit with her - it was clear she needed to exit the course. Marianne decided she’d walk with the girl and catch up to us. I stepped into my mentor mode, and off the 3 of us went. R was anxious about technical sections and rocks, so we did a fair bit of walking as she regained confidence. We talked and had a great time. As we rounded to the finish, J and I both decided to run for the finish. I pushed her to really go hard. It was a great finish. We had so much fun, and we all finished without falls.

Bright ideas 5k Cypress Gardens. It was nice, since we don't run trails often. My ankle was wrapped and did ok. It was warm. We both placed in our age group. Yep it’s been awhile since I’ve raced. But went out there today and had fun. I ran the first mile then frolicked the rest 😂 it was good to see some really good people that have been on this journey with me for many years. I’m always excited to see them and plan another race. So ok after I finish a grabbed my 2 tacos and a Modelo and just enjoyed the vibes the people and seeing the people that finished their first race. A first race is a special thing. I wished I seen more people but a lot if races going on this weekend. but this is a fave now for cinco de mayo. Oh my legs are begging to get stronger I need to get that respiration and heart rate back soon. I know patience is the key. Ok next weekend I’m doing another 5K the UNITEDWAY run at sofi stadium. ✨ Today’s run was definitely jumpworthy 🥳. ✨ My knee cooperated today. And the @asics Superblast also cooperated 😝. ✨ Longest run in over 7 months, since @chimarathon. ✨ I did 16 miles with some quality. A coach once told me that you should always finish a workout feeling like you could do one more set…not only did I finish this workout feeling like I do one more, but I also finished the run feeling like I could run longer. Had a special visitor on today’s run 🥰 . . I forgot how hard pushing 70ish extra pounds could be, but we had the best time running these four miles together. Declan kept yelling for me to go faster and I had to explain I was moving as quickly as I could while pushing him. Then he wanted to get out and run on his own so the last quarter of a mile we ran together. When I found out this 5k was on May the 4th I quickly bought this Rey tank and decided of course my theme was gonna be Rey who is my fav Star Wars character!! This turned into a virtual race bc this was my first race ever that was cancelled bc of “impending weather” even though it was just cloudy and zero rain!! They said apparently a storm was “coming” soon even though it never rained the whole time I was outside lol! But it’s all good bc they still gave me a medal so I decided to run it myself on the course since I did it last year and remembered it! So I ran my heart out like it was a race and got a 20 second PR!!! 27:20!! I ran a mile before hand bc I got there early and did a cool down mile on the track after (had to take off my tank and skirt bc it was super sunny and humid and gross!) I Was gonna do a mile time trial but my legs were like no thanks! During that time I followed my training plan, ran all of the miles, did all of the speed work and the hill work, ran all of the long runs and the recovery runs, completed all of my strength training sessions, did my yoga and my stretching and foam rolling, I ate well, slept well, and did the rest days. 18 weeks of marathon training. 18 weeks of consistency, dedication, and focus on my goals. Tomorrow is race day. I’m am so grateful to get to cross the start line of the marathon. Crossing a starting line takes courage and hope.
