•Things that will never change• It's funny, ever since my project emerged from my head 2 years ago now. I kept repeating to myself: "When I'm in Japan, I must take the opportunity to do this or that" like resolutions. Or perhaps more as if this project was not only going to change my life, but also who I am. So yes, it's a fact, this project is a real life experience - I wouldn't be the same person leaving Japan after two years. But I can already say with 200% certainty that some things won't have changed at all. It must be ingrained in my DNA. -Taking 10 photos of the same thing and not sorting them out afterwards. -Telling myself that the bike ride to school and back is an excuse for the candy and chocolate I can eat every day. -Take a nap -Procrastinate on work -Having a bedside book that I brought back on purpose (and God knows, every inch of space was calculated in my suitcases) and that I'll probably never read. -Start getting ready only 10 minutes before leaving -Sleep and try to convince myself it's deep meditation -Spend 1 hour in wacky bookstores or stores without cracking up to buy something, and to self-felicitate myself with that, bah.... buy something anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #art #amazing #japnesefood #japantrip #japanphoto #sakura #japan_night_view

• Old bad habits • I was dreading this moment. I knew it would come sooner or later, but I confess I didn't know it would come....so soon. Before I left, I obviously researched as many things as I could: life on the ground, tips and tricks, respect for customs etc... I liked to get information from people who had been away long enough to be able to give an opinion based on the long term. I had seen a video of a woman explaining that she had stayed 1 year in Japan and that one of the things we face as Westerners is sometimes the difficulty of adapting to the world around us, everything is new and nothing resembles everything we've always known, so sometimes we make mistakes. This morning I realized that I was becoming grumpy about the length of the traffic lights. It's all very silly, but here everyone takes it upon themselves to wait until the light turns green, yet I crossed anyway. Sometimes stress and anxiety surface for a brief moment. Whether it's in class or on the street, or having to talk to the shopkeeper in the store. When I had the idea of leaving, I told myself that going to the other side of the world would force me to open up to others, and in some situations I tell myself that I liked it, when in Frnace certain things were simpler and less stressful. But that's not regret or apprehension at all, it's just that I've noticed that certain things I used to do every day in France haven't resurfaced since my arrival. But you have to look on the positive side of things! Here I can't afford to be overwhelmed by my emotions or too much stress, and no one will be there to help me, so the only solution is to work on them until they disappear! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #alone #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #staysafe #gaijinpot #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #fashionblogger #art #style #amazing

• Tomoe • Meaning to turn in a circle. It's a symbol both secular and religious. The true meaning of this symbol seems to have been lost over time. But the funny thing is that this symbol, discovered on very ancient architectural elements, which can be seen just about everywhere (present in all Buddhist and Shinto temples in Japan, on musical instruments, engraved on walls or facades etc... with more or less different forms, the meaning and interpretation remain the same), can be found today in company logos or in manga. From what I've researched and understood, Tomoe represents eternal recommencement, balance, unchanging cycles such as night and day, life and death... it's also associated with the yin and yang symbol. It also refers to the Shinto vision of the three elements: Earth, Heaven and Man. Often used to symbolize harmony, the cycle of life and connection with nature. It makes me think of the philosophy of life that I'm discovering little by little every day here. Perpetual change. Adapting to every situation as it presents itself. Growing and working in harmony with our surroundings. It's thought-provoking ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #alone #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #staysafe #gaijinpot #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #fashionblogger #art #style #amazing

•Contemplating our surroundings• The word 花見 / はなみ (hanami) translates literally as: "looking at the flowers". It's a traditional custom to simply appreciate the beauty of flowers (mainly cherry blossoms). At the moment it's Sakura season, the cherry trees are showing off their most beautiful blossoms. It's when you take a closer look that you realize just how fragile these works of art of nature really are. Rain, a gust of wind, a bird settling on a branch and dozens or even hundreds of petals fall and fly away. It's mesmerizing. How can something so beautiful, so bewitching, so renowned last only a few days, only a few hours? Enjoy the moment, feel, touch, explore. Who knows, tomorrow it could all be different. I'd like to talk to the "little me" from 6 months ago who was about to give up on this project.. The negative, like the positive, eventually go away. Everything is ephemeral, nothing lasts. Even if sometimes nothing goes right and you're at rock bottom, it never lasts forever. So message to the "me of the future" who will be depressed for X reasons far from home. Think back to the Sakuras you saw today🌸 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #art #amazing #japnesefood #japantrip #japanphoto #sakura #japan_night_view

•After two weeks of immersion• I've only been in Japan for two weeks, but it feels like 1 month.😅 I'm constantly learning and discovering hundreds of things, and my brain is in turmoil every hour of the day. But it's all very interesting. I've never been to Japan before and I'm discovering everything with my French eyes. The fact of feeling constantly safe, the fact that here, work comes before everything else, very good restaurants or meals are really affordable, consumption and overconsumption just like pollution (plastic) is everywhere around us, yet the streets are super clean! the respect and civility of people . This morning, on my way to class, I saw a child of around...5, alone, unaccompanied on her bike, with a phone in her hand to show her the way. She wasn't afraid, she knew where she was going, and I felt like I was the only person there to say to myself, "What's the child doing here at this hour all alone? What if she has a fall or a bad encounter?!" 🤯 I find that quite impressive. Also this morning when I took the bus, someone had left a big bag at the stop (probably an oversight) and I know, I'm 99% sure that the bag won't have moved a millimeter when I get back tonight.🙂‍↕️ I still have thousands of things to learn and discover, but for the moment I'm seeing and noticing a lot of positive things, facts that are rooted in culture and education. These are not things we can ever hope to see in France, or else it would be nothing short of a miracle. But then, I suppose it's still the wonderment phase, and I'm sure I'll be sharing other, less positive points in the weeks to come.🤔 In any case, I'm slowly getting the hang of it, which is great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #art #amazing #japnesefood #japantrip #japanphoto #sakura #japan_night_view

•Living abroad for a long time• I had "forgotten" that 1 or even 2 years of one's life, even if it's a fixed period of time for oneself, is still a fairly long time. So the administrative formalities must also follow, insurance on the spot, various declarations right and left....this takes a lot of time.....beaucoup, in itself it's not complicated but.....administrative services are slow... like everywhere 😅 Anyway, classes are starting, people are meeting and this could be the start of a new life lasting 1 or 2 years. Next step: find a job! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #alone #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #staysafe #gaijinpot #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #fashionblogger #art #style #amazing

•The week of tourism is already drawing to a close• It went by quickly, but at the same time very slowly. Everything was so new in absolutely every way, but I'm glad I planned to arrive a week early, I don't know how I would have done it otherwise 😅 Next week's objectives: - Speak more Japanese - Be a good student and avoid shyness - Stop eating cup-noodles and really cook - Try to tone down my lame jokes and second-degree humor (I don't think it works here) 😐 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #alone #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #staysafe #gaijinpot #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #fashionblogger #art #style #amazing

•Tourism continues and the week draws to a close• After 5 days of discovering the city, I still have hundreds of thousands of things to learn and discover. All this will happen over time. 😌 My roommates have taught me that, logically, the city is full of people at weekends, in addition to tourists, the Japanese travel a lot to Kyoto to discover the ancient capital. So this weekend will be a quiet one. 😅 I've learned a lot this week, and my English is improving, but I still don't dare speak Japanese. I dare say I don't understand, but I can't see myself saying it in every sentence, so we're mixing it up a bit. Objective: GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND DARE TO SPEAK JAPANESE, it's okay to make mistakes ! 😤 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #alone #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #staysafe #gaijinpot #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #fashionblogger #art #style #amazing

•The history of Ginkakuji and its garden • Ginkakuji ("Silver Pavilion Temple") is the popular name for Jishoji, an important sub-temple of the Buddhist branch. Ginkakuji came into being in 1482, when Ashikaga Yoshimasa (1436-1490), the eighth shogun of the Muromachi era (1336-1573), began construction of an elegant retirement villa. At Yoshimasa's request, the villa was converted into a temple after his death and renamed Jishõji, after Yoshimasa's Buddhist name, Jishõin. At the center of the Ginkakuji garden is the Kinkyõ pond, and the garden's many elements, and various natural landscapes, possess a refined elegance that reflects the beauty of the passing seasons and is, to this day, a living example of the fusion of Zen and Higashiyama culture. In recognition of its aesthetic and cultural value, Ginkakujì was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- #japan #kyoto #osaka #newlife #photography #photooftheday #alone #travel #girl #spring #日本 #京都 #happy #love #adventure #explore #reelsinstagram #travelphotography #instagood #positivevibes #staysafe #gaijinpot #vivrelejapon #beautiful #beauty #naturephotography #fashionblogger #art #style #amazing

• Train from the airport to Kyoto • After a journey that met with some...Unforeseen..... I finally set foot on the floor of the country I'd been coveting for so many years. I've met new people and done my first shopping (it's not incredible but for me it's amazing 🤣) Now all I need to do is improve my level and, above all, DARE TO SPEAK IN JAPANESE. That's right, I'm so afraid of making a mistake that I'm going to go out speaking English and not Japanese....not very practical. That's the disadvantage of learning alone 😅 Well, there's still 1 week to go before I go back to school ! - - 大門坂 | Pilgrimage trail | The path of the ancestors For centuries our ancestors have been walking pilgrimages. Why ever did we modern creatures abandon this soulful practice? Here, the Daimonzaka steps, a short section of the Kumano Kodo, an ancient network of mountain pilgrimage trails through the Kii Peninsula, Japan. As I walk a trail like this under the branches of the fairytale cryptomeria trees, I am walking with the ancestors as much as I am walking the land. After my ascent, I went to pay my respects at one of the region’s most respected shrines, be it to the kami enshrined, or the spirits of the mountains, the trees, the waterfall. The Kumano Kodo is starting to gain attention internationally, but most traffic is one of tourism rather than pilgrimage, and there are vast difference between these two. What would be your preference for moving through this land?

- - 秋の京都 | Zen path | Subtle awe Manmade order meets natural disorder. Scattering and profusion. The delight of the autumnal encounter, meets my wonder at nature’s vitality (even in the cycle of ‘dying’). I get to be witness! —A moment of subtle awe flutters through my heart.

- - Aesthetics and energies | Quiet awe | Inspiration Hundreds of 1, 5, and 10 yen coins making a shining carpet of faith at Kinkakuji Temple. How many wishes for good will, protection, and good luck from the gods? Contemplating the exuberance of that desire and that of the multitude of blessings the gods must bestow each day quietly takes my breath away. And yet the gods themselves are so simple, barely an outline. In this little compendium of visual expressions of faith in Japan, you will find examples of both simplicity and profusion, austerity and excess. I suppose it can seem a little contradictory, but when I think about it properly, these two dynamics are a part of so many faith traditions around the world. As a shinrinyoku practitioner, tuning into these energies as I visit Japan’s shrines and temples is not at all an alien exercise. I can borrow them and bring attention to the same dynamics in a forest bathing walk: where do we find simplicity and where do we find exuberance? What is the aliveness that we perceive in each of these? It’s deeply inspiring.

11/12/2023, 11:12:42 AM

- - Subtle awe | Momiji leaves | 日本庭園の色 Those of you who have followed my account for some time have probably noticed that while I take & share photos showing the beauty of natural world, I am not into spectacle. It is easy to tune into and be seduced by spectacle, but it’s almost like an addiction of modern-day culture, this desire for things greater, grander, rarer, more intense that only promises to satisfy with the dials ever turned up. Instagram panders to spectacle too, of course. Like most addictions, there is a payoff, in this case, dulling our capacity for awe and our ability to tune into, value, and be moved by things more subtle, more commonplace. In the ethos of forest bathing, which is very much a practice of opening up our capacity to notice, to delight in, and to feel subtle awe, I’d like to post a series of photos of things I’ve encountered recently that have gently taken my breath away. Today, a tiny fragment from a Japanese garden, where my eye and heart were moved by the play of pattern and color and the way the leaves seemed to glow in the dull light on this rainy day. Truly enough to inspire a “yugen reverie.”

11/6/2023, 12:17:45 PM

- - もみじ | Momiji | Japanese Maple A single momiji leaf rests on a carpet of moss at Daitokuji Temple. The magic time of red maple leaves has come again in Japan! Even a moss garden can turn into a sea of red in this season, but you may prefer the combination of green and red together. Our lone momiji leaf’s soft bed is sugi-goke moss, named after another of Japan’s iconic trees, the sugi or Cryptomeria japonica. If you visit Japan, you’ll find momiji, moss, and sugi in parks, gardens, and forests just about everywhere. Perhaps, as they have for me, they may become dear friends for you too. Or perhaps we could visit and make friends together one day.✨🍁🌱✨

-------------------- #cyrilcarrere #bibliographie #hayatoishida #leglasdelinnocence #okinawa #tokyo #japon #vivrelejapon #thriller #polar #bookstagram #bookstagramfrance #laretrolittéraire #roman #premierroman
