@usamasterswl Masters Nationals Recap! I am so proud of myself and my entire team for absolutely killin’ it last week! It was a fantastic 5 days in Baton Rogue (minus, of course, the over 7 hour weather delay getting there Wednesday) and I can’t believe how far I’ve come in 10 months of training. SNATCH 2/3 49kg ✅ 52kg ✅ 54kg ❌ (would have been a comp and all time PR) CLEAN & JERK 2/3 58kg ✅ 61kg (comp PR!) ✅ 64kg ❌ by majority (would have been a comp and all time PR) TOTAL 113kg (+3kg in 4 weeks!) Thank you to everyone who tuned into the livestream and cheered me on (Mom @keenangirl, Dad @jim.powers.75098, @alexisthestylist888, @dandme325, @_shel.byyy_, @mimibarnabe, and everyone else!), for my team in the back room (@siany.maree, @seanwelchsd, @cab2323, and @malie56), my teammates in the audience (@sunticize with the epic videos here, @the_horror_josh for his videos and voice), and the rest of the team back home. SPRING LIFTOFF MEET RECAP! Yesterday was INCREDIBLE! I had an awesome time competing @repmaxperformance Spring Liftoff to kick off my 2024 competition season, and it was so hype—what an amazing environment to lift in with every spectator, volunteer, ref, etc cheering you on. I definitely want to compete there again! My meet goal was survive (as always!), qualify for USAW AO2 (102kg total needed), and aim for 6/6. I set no weight PRs but all of my lifts were comp PRs, and I added 16kg to my total, and I qualified for AO2. Hit 5 of my 6 lifts and felt so good in my mind and body. Just 2 weeks ago I was cleared to jerk after aggravating my right rotator cuff and labrum, and it’s been a mighty mental struggle since then. Training last week was skeeeeeetchy but I pulled it together! SNATCHES • 47kg (+7kg comp PR) ⚪️⚪️⚪️ • 50kg (+10kg comp PR) ⚪️⚪️⚪️ • 52kg (+12kg comp PR) ⚪️⚪️⚪️ CLEAN & JERK • 55kg (+5kg comp PR) ⚪️⚪️⚪️ • 58kg (+8kg comp PR) ⚪️⚪️⚪️ • 61kg (would have been an 11kg comp PR) 🔴🔴🔴 TOTAL: 110kg (+16kg from HCAM ‘23!) Your patience with me only rivals Dr. Jason, and you are an incredible coach who handles me with kid gloves when needed but also gives me a swift kick of tough love if necessary. ✨ Coach appreciation ✨ It has been 1 year of consistent training with ZERO neurological relapses. 🥳 After countless neurologists told me that I needed to give up the sport of weightlifting both as an athlete and coach… I thought that was it. It was like a part of me died. Yet here we are. Years later, brain and body healed. 1 year no relapses. Endured some crazy injuries thanks to my dog Drax 😂, some terrible life trauma, and still no sign of a relapse. The best part? I have been given the opportunity to have my career back as a coach at my first gym —@asphodel.fit. 🤯 If it weren’t for you Wes, none of these things would have happened because I had accepted my fate. I had given up. However, you gave me hope. Thank you for being my friend and my coach, and most importantly, thank you for continuing to push me past my comfort zone. What a WILD weekend. I hit 6, 6!!!!! PRs between training Friday and Saturday, got my first rip on my left hand, and then helped paint the gym ~*black*~ along with the rest of the team (props to @natweightlifts.wcw for her scissor lift driving skills). What. A. Day. I can now call myself a competitive weightlifter! It was a little wild, a little chaotic, and a lot of fun. The back room is an environment to be experienced, and not having spotters around me on the platform made me feel a little exposed for my first snatch attempt! Even stranger was being on the platform for what felt like 3 seconds, too. That’s all old hat now! Felt just like old times working out @sportsperformancept HQ today, where PT = physical training (so now I really need some elbows in my muscles). Spent many an afternoon here with @alexhartspt benching and deadlifting in prep for my first powerlifting meet. Now, @jasonumali_ gets to watch me snatch and squat after setting the foundation for both lifts last year and this year! Pretty stoked with how last weekend’s Novice Strongman Comp went. Awesomely fun, friendly, and a well run day by @legendaryliftinggym and @wastrongman . Managed to not die and may have waddled myself into 2nd place at U105. . Events: 1.) Max rep 180kg truck tyre back squat: 12 reps +bonus pavement pizza🤮 2.) 10m 200kg tyre flip into 15m 200kg arm over arm sled pull: a really long time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (no vid) 3.) Rising bar deadlift: 240kg 4.) Overhead medley: 80kg sandbag into 100kg barbell into max rep 100kg log: 2+2 reps 5.) Max rep 120kg sandbag over yoke: just 2 slow-ass reps 😂 . DID YOU KNOW that a large KFC potato and gravy only has 314 calories and 4g of fat? . When you combine this with 6 original tenders, you end up with a 860 cal meal, with approximately: 59g protein 32g fat 84g carbs . Which is arguably, a fairly decent off-season macros split 😋 . You don't need a face to talk about lifting. (Camera skills seem to wax and wane for me.) . . The muscle snatch is a great movement to play with submaximal weight and development a killer bar path. . . Tension through the body and connection to the barbell. . .
