How are you going to get home? 🤔 Good question. That’s part of the adventure. Usually, I complete a trail and feel an immediate self-imposed pressure to get to work. Maybe that’s a result of my mindset on trail. Set a difficult but attainable goal- Get it- Do it again- Over and over until the Terminus ✨ This time though, I decided to take my time getting home and leave myself open to the possibilities. First, there was a three mile walk from the beach to the Lake Ozette campground where I finally got the blue Popsicle I had been thinking of since Montana. There was a possibility of a ride in a Cessna with the awesome family we met around Lake Bonaparte but that didn’t work out. ✈️ Maybe next time. 🐈 Then a hitch with a few different locals. One family took us out to their huntin’ camp before we took their son to his football game. Then another local scooped us up and took us to the Joyce General Store where we made friends with a shop cat. Another hitch to a bus then a ferry to Seattle. The Dutchies finished the day after us so we met up in town for one last round of Big Buck Hunter *International*. Camped at Thurra River among apocalyptic scenes of abandoned burnt camping gear and vehicles from bushfires and bridge collapse after hard 20km walk from Tamboon Inlet. Scarpa boots self destructed, the repair during rest day at Tamboon South village did not hold. Got a welcome lift from Rock and his mates to Cann River, then Santiago @zalafepa picked me up 5 seconds after I stuck my thumb out! He kindly took me to Marlo to my car. While East Gippsland is an amazing place to explore, it wasn’t the trip I had originally planned. However, a ski tour across the Bogong High Plains is difficult if there is no snow. My short trips to the Victorian Alps early in the season to try out some new gear now looks like being the only times I will be skiing this year.
