I started with #whenallthegodsaredead by #dwamavin (an absolute banger) and #touchofdarkness by #scarlettestclaire (not exactly mind-blowing 😂), and then I turned to fantasy again. 📖Book Review📖 "The Silence Of The Girls" By: Pat Barker ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌙(3.5)/5 Stars All I need is a Greek Mythology book & you would see me being the happiest woman alive. I've been reading this book for an entire month & now when it's over, I have no clue whatsoever of my life. The book is the 'trojan-war' retelling from Briseis' POV. Lyrnessus has fallen & all the women have been taken in the Greek camp for distribution, where Briseis is given to Achilles. From a queen she's degraded to a bed-slave,a thing... I knew this would be a hard book to read since the atrocities are never easy to read but the amount of time I physically recoiled, or had goosebumps while reading a particularly disturbing scene were a little too many for me to count. The anger & hatred for Agamemnon & all these war-hungry males just increased 10 fold after this read. Pat is such a wonderful writer. There were so many beautiful imageries & such indepth comparisons that I had to remind myself to close my damn mouth. I wasn't prepared for Achilles' POV so guess my shock while reading his side of the story. Nothing can prepare me for Achilles & Patroclus' death & reading their death for the 3rd time was so hard. I had to go through the pain, the tears, the heartbreak all over again. I can never hate Achilles, he didn't deserve any of this. A 7yr old boy losing his mother to a man losing his love, Achilles had the worst fate of the century & I'll always love him. The book is divided in 3 parts. I was so sure of this book being my 5 star read till 1st part but when I started reading part 2 & 3, the book rating slowly started going down. It should have only been about Briseis. Pat including Achilles' POV was so confusing & not needed at all. It was like Pat got confused mid-way & had no idea of how to go forward with it but still wanted to finish it so included whatever felt right(makes no sense right?). The ending fell flat. In the name of the Girls we are only given the POV of Briseis & that flaw is broken too with Achilles' POV. If the readers were interested in reading about Achilles & Patroclus,they would have picked 'The Song Of Achilles'. Refer to comments.....

Feature Friday ✨ This year I’ve been featuring a book that’s been on my physical tbr for a while to give it some love and look at it again 🖤✨ This week I picked the Women of Troy by Pat Barker ✨ This is technically the second book in the Women of Troy series the first book is the Silence of the Girls which I read last year 🖤 Also the third book comes out in August of this year 👀 Synopsis: Queen Briseis has been stolen from her conquered homeland and given as a concubine to a foreign warrior. The warrior is Achilles: famed hero, loathed enemy, ruthless butcher, darkly troubled spirit. Briseis’s fate is now indivisibly entwined with his. No one knows it yet, but there are just ten weeks to go until the Fall of Troy, the end of this long and bitter war. This is the start of The Iliad: the most famous war story ever told. The next ten weeks will be a story of male power, male ego, male violence. But what of the women? The thousands of female slaves in the soldiers’ camp - in the laundry, at the loom, laying out the dead? Briseis is one of their number - and she will be our witness to history.
