What to expect: ☀️ Best Friend's brother ☀️ Friendship soulmates ☀️ One night stand to lovers This story spans over 5 summers, Felix and Lucy hook up that first time, not knowing who the other really is. They then gravitate towards each other for the next 5 years. The magnetic pull and tension this couple has was written so well. I loved everything about this book. This is definitely going to be a super popular summer romance, I can feel it. Felix is added to the list of the best book boyfriends for sure. I want to visit Prince Edward Island and visit all the places mentioned. The love for the island really shines through the book. The importance of friendship is so important in this book, and the message that a soulmate could be a platonic best friend instead of a partner was a great touch. I tend to buy a pretty decent mix of new and used books - for contemporary romances / fantasy books, I end up buying a fair number of them new (lately I seem to be going on weekly trips to the bookstore to get the latest releases). For historical romances, on the other hand, there is no better place to shop than used bookstores / thrift stores. There's nothing more exciting than finally finding a book that is out of print / you've been searching for at a used bookstore. It's so rewarding, for lack of a better term. Prompted by @rogue.pages to ponder the point of returning to our books for a re-read. I’m yet to read the Border Trilogy and will be starting this year. I have managed to read The Road, Blood Meridian, and Child of God (not pictured). Last year’s reread of The Road was exactly what @rogue.pages is describing when noting the immersion we need to commit to through reading. I felt a pull to do the same for a reread, even moreso than a first time read. Partly because I had committed to finding something more from the reread process. Not in an expectant way. Just to feel I had done everything I could with the books I was rereading. And I’ve carried that reverence into my reading for this year. Slowly stripping my shelves of the dust-ridden and dreaded “TBR” books. The eternal TBR. I think Instagram has done wonders for my reading with purpose. While others are posting about trying to keep up with all of the new books purchased that have to be read, I’ve really loved feeling an outlet for my reading. Every time I’m reading a book I’m feeling connected to my friends on here. What will they think when I post about it. I want to have a meaningful experience with each book for myself and for bookstagram. Back to the immersion idea - do you go back to all the books you read? Are you like most people who have a short list of favourites that get reread when you’re searching for things to reconnect you with yourself (or is that just me? 🫣)? American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 Full review below . . . Clever, creative, and insightful. A great interweaving of three stories. There are many relatable narrative choices for POC readers, particularly by sharing a candid look at one’s Asian American (and specifically Chinese American) experience. Though just a snapshot, Yang’s graphic novel provides enough fiction (and probably some memoir truth as well) to entertain readers and to express his own experiences.

BOOK REVIEW: elena ferrante’s “the story of a new name” ❤️🔥 I remember first hearing about this series when it was blowing up on YouTube and on TikTok and I picked up the first book because it seemed like something that was right up my alley: slice of life, coming of each story centred around female friendship and growing up in Europe– something where the atmosphere and the characterization took over any sort of major plot. I read the first book about a year ago and absolutely loved it but knew that I had to take a break because the first book was just so dense. But I finally picked up the second book about a month ago and it took me this long to finally finish it, and now I can share my thoughts with everyone! Whereas the first novel centred around the childhood of Lenu and Lila, this book focusses on their teenage and moving into adult life. The tone of this book is really what got me in the beginning — it flows so organically from the direction the first book was headed in. I couldn’t even be mad that it’s a lot more somber than the first book, because that’s kind of where their adult lives were set up from the first novel. This book delves a lot more into the societal expectations of “what it means to be a woman” in Naples at the time and how people viewed Lila and Lenu’s life choices as they got older. Seeing both of them go down different paths makes complete sense from a storytelling perspective, and the way that they grow together and at the same time grow apart is very relatable. The way that Ferrante conveys the inner emotions of each character makes you completely empathetic to them, even when they’re acting against one another or doing what are objectively unspeakable and quite cruel things. In this way, she paints a vision of adulthood that is ultimately a game of survival and a point of confusion. I thought today would be a great time to show off the absolute glow up that @thebrokennbinding has delivered to Lies of Locke Lamora (and a massive thank you again to @amongstchaosshereads for tracking down my very own copy of this trilogy! ❤️) So below is my review from when I first read Lies on my Kindle.. ⚔️ “I cut off his fingers to get him to talk, and when he’d confessed everything I wanted to hear, I had his f****** tongue cut out, and the stump cauterized.” Everyone in the room stared at him. “I called him an asshole, too,” said Locke. “He didn’t like that.” ⚔️ Lies of Locke Lamora is a brilliant ‘heist-style’ fantasy story centred around lovable rogue thief Locke and the rest of The Gentleman Bastards as they try to survive the streets and politics of a renaissance Vienna-style city. Lynch has created a really unique world and I’ve seen lots of reviews praising the setting… and whilst I really enjoyed the Vienna-style setting (and in particular that gladiator scene was brilliant) … but that’s not where the magic is for me! The magic comes from the characters… the brilliantly written, brilliantly crafted characters.. each with their unique personality and absolutely gold standard dialogue… the situations that these characters find themselves in and their dialogue while they try and get themselves out has literally had me laughing out loud at times (at that rarely happens when I’m reading a book). The prose and the structure of the book is also brilliant, with mini chapters, fast paced action, flashbacks and plots interweaving which makes a really special unpredictable reading experience.. yet doesn’t make it confusing to read at all! I really found myself able to binge read for long periods of time! This is a fab read and is up there as an absolute favourite.. And if you’ve read this, then this quote will pull on your heartstrings… and if you haven’t, well I won’t finish it, you’ll have to find out for yourselves! “I don’t have to beat you. Con una chiave di lettura nuova ed originale, i frammenti di Saffo qui ritradotti da Tonelli, vengono accorpati in cinque gruppi cui fa riferimento il titolo per omaggiare la liricità, la musica che si fa parola e la parola che diviene musica nella poesia di Saffo, che è specchio di una cultura che non smette di affascinarmi. Oltre ad incantare la parola, ho trovato molto interessante le Note al testo, i rimandi alle parole originali dei frammenti che ho assaporato sulla lingua come antico vino pregiato, nel mio caso impolverato dal tempo che mi separa dalle nozioni di greco ma sempre capace di stuzzicare. Come non riconoscere lo spirito di Orfeo nell’incanto della parola-musica di Saffo, quando ci conduce alla contemplazione dell’attimo eterno in cui la luna piena trionfa sugli astri, inargentando il cielo, o quando ci fa partecipi del piccolo estasiato éranos, il banchetto nel verde del bosco accompagnato dal mormorio gentile di un ruscello silvestre? What a wild journey it has been. Gold was absolutely incredible and has to be my second favorite of the series (Gleam being the first). There was some INCREDIBLE character redemption in Gold and in other books while I found myself dreading this character’s POV chapters, I ate them up in this book. There were a lot of new characters introduced as well that I fell in love with. The ending of Gold was an emotional rollercoaster that I was not prepared for and I am so ready for Goldfinch! happy one week of the double drop of the tortured poets department! what an album! to be honest, at first i was disappointed to know that it was going to be synth pop since I wanted it to sound like the folkmore albums. i did not immediately connect with it on the first listen but i have to admit, it does grow on you! taylor has bared the barest of her soul in this album; it has easily become one of my favorites. some songs in the album really hit home for me, making me feel deeply understood and seen and you can really tell which songs were touched by aaron dessner! I mean, I’ve seen the Bergman books around on booksta and in the book stores, I know so many people who have loved them, but I have no idea why I waited so damn long to read them. Part of me is mad, buuuuut a large part of me is happy - I was able to get introduced to the family and partners and became fully immersed and obsessed because all the books were out (aside from Viggo’s but then it worked out perfectly!) With every book, I loved the Bergmans and everyone surrounding them more and more. @chloe_liese sure does know how to write relatable, real, authentic, vulnerable and loveable characters. I cried in pretty much every book. And I definitely laughed out loud in all of them too. Don’t ask me to pick a favourite 😱 even though so many already have. It’s pretty much impossible! Ughhh…I’ve been able to narrow it down to Ren+Frankie and Axel+Rooney, I think. There is just something about Frankie that sings to my soul…it’s probably her love of black, sarcasm and witchy vibes. So Ren+Frankie currently hold the slight edge. What I loved so much, is that you continue learning more about each character as the series goes, it’s not just their individual books. They all have cameos in each other’s books, references made, big family gatherings…it’s just all so joyful. This series definitely fueled my ‘contemporary era’ fire, and I’m not mad about it. I am, however, super sad it’s done. Sigh. Just need my special edition set to hurry up and get here so I can stare at the A-Frame masterpiece on my shelf every single day 😍 ❓what’s a series you’ve waited to read or still need to start?

Currently reading The Serial Killer Whisperer by Pete Earley and I am over half way and if you like learning about real serial killers and you are not squeamish you will love this nonfiction book. A boy has a accident that gives him a traumatic brain injury and he flies into rages if he doesn't take a boatload of meds. He starts writing serial killers and it is so incredibly interesting. I love true crime so this is right up my alley. It was published in 2012 and had been in my pile of books that I completely forgot about it until I started a book project and I found some real treasures. qotd : which book(s) do you want to read/finish before the end of the month ? my reading month has been, so far, atrocious if i do say so myself haha ever since reading six crimson cranes i’ve been in the worst slump, not wanting to pick up any book even from my favorite genres, even a reread of my favorite books, really nothing … but i’m still delusional enough to think that i can manage to read/finish those five books in five days 🙈 • the book that wouldn’t burn by mark lawrence i received the sequel last week (which is gorgeous) and it really does sound like the kind of book i would adore : high fantasy + book about books = 🤎 • empire of the damned by jay kristoff i started this one already as i’m buddy reading it with hannah and i absolutely love the universe and characters i can’t wait to continue this adventure and see where it all takes us • floating hotel by grace curtis i started this one as well and was so very intrigued by what i read so far. it seems to be a cozy/funny character driven sci-fi and i’m SO here for it • the way of kings by brandon sanderson i read the first part of this book and got already way too attached to the characters which doesn’t bode well for my emotional state haha i was again dropped into a fascinating world and i haven’t been continuing it only because i’m terrified of what’s going to happen to those said characters (i remember mistborn ALL TOO WELL iykyk 🫠) • one hundred years of solitude by gabriel garcia marquez i was quite excited to get to this book but heard since some very mixed feelings and thoughts that had me questioning why i even bought it in the first place 😅 also it’s pouring rain today and it’s not supposed to get any better over the weekend so cozying up inside and reading it shall be ☕️ have you read any of those books or do you maybe have them on your tbr as well ? love, Celine
