Audience with the Boss. _____________________________ Celebrating the 25th anniversary of #thephantommenace wouldn't be complete without paying tribute to the underwater scenes on Naboo. Visiting Otoh Gunga for the first time was one of those magical moments of the film. For this pic I wanted to go back to the beginning of my collection by using the original TPM #bossnass figure from 1999 although the POTJ version is far superior in any way. It was my very first SW action figure after all. But why Boss Nass of all characters you might ask? See the two bronze busts of him and Jar Jar on the right? If you grew up in the 90s like me you may recognize them as merchandise from #kelloggs cereals. When I got the Boss Nass bust I was 7 years old and didn't know much about SW. It must have been months before the theatrical release of TPM since I hadn't seen the film by that point. In Germany the film was released in August not May 1999 but back in the day we already had all the toys and merchandise everywhere long BEFORE the film even came out. I had seen the TPM action figures (including Nass) in our local toy stores display window for weeks but I only started to care after I got the Kelloggs bust. Now I wanted his action figure but when my mother and I went there he was gone. Luckily my mum didn't give up and asked the toy owner if he still had one. He didn't but offered us to come back a few days later when he expected the next shipment from @hasbro to arrive. Two days later we returned and he went to the storage room, opened all his boxes and found ONE Boss Nass. Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace (25th anniversary re-release) - It’s no secret that this was massively panned when it released back in 1999. Fairly rightly so too, it’s mismatched and far too childish for large portions and after a 19 year starved wait for more Star Wars.. Fans were suitably upset. I’d say that’s fair. I, on the other hand did not feel this - for the most part - I was a fresh faced 9 year old lad with a heart full of hope and was truly obsessed, to a ridiculous degree with all things Star Wars. I ADORED it and was so grateful and excited to have my very own original NEW Star Wars film. It was almost unthinkable and I am certain that those reading this that were there at the time understand precisely what I mean. It was genuinely special - a true phenomenon. I, like pretty much everybody else was overly obsessed with Darth Maul for months ahead of the film even being released. Still easily the single best, coolest character creation post-OT. If you know me, it’s also no secret that I totally detest that which excuses itself as “Star Wars” nowadays and stopped watching around 2 years ago. I am done. I won’t even engage in arguments anymore because I just don’t care enough. Those original films will always be deeply, deeply special to me no matter what and the prequels have their own small corner of my heart. Everything else can go in the trash compactor. 25 years down the line, I absolutely adored rewatching this film - in the exact same screen in the exact same cinema I saw it in back in 1999 no less! A truly surreal and lovely experience. I am not afraid to admit that when that famous opening crawl came up with that music, I did shed a few tears for a fallen franchise that once meant the world and more to me. A piece of my heart that i’ll never regain. I’m extremely thankful for this opportunity to feel like a young boy again. This was a special one.

Battle of Naboo. _____________________________ TPM is back in cinemas for its 25th anniversary and there couldn't be more proof of how beloved this film and the Prequels in general are globally: Cinemas are packed around the world, screenings are sold out and in some places new ones are added because of the high demand! This film may have its flaws but it's still an epic cinematic experience best seen on the big screen with a great sound system. Not just because of the big battle at the end. As a fan of #thephantommenace since 1999 I am very happy to say that I am not surprised at all about this turn of events. Hopefully Lucasfilm, Disney and Hasbro now realize that their strong focus on mainly pleasing OT fans and ignoring those of the PT for the most part was wrong. Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (1991) follows the outlaw Robin Hood (Kevin Costner) who decides to fight back against the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). I’ve not seen this in years and couldn’t remember to much about the Movie (other than the hit song by Bryan Adams). This was a big hit when released and it’s aged fairly well. The plot is a little thin, and Costner is pretty wooden in the key role, but there are some positives. The general production and music score are good and complement the intended tone. Rickman is great as the villain although perhaps too good for this version of Robin Hood. The action sequences are watchable and there are some fun moments but at nearly 2.5 hours long the runtime is significantly bloated! After all these years of costume designing and building, I still always get apprehensive on the first proper 'try on' with new costumes. And this latest one has taken a LOT of work! So here's Andy's latest cosplay - Prince Vultan from Flash Gordon!! There are hundreds and hundreds of hand cut, stitched, and glued scales and feathers. An insane amount of spraying, gluing, painting and hand sewing. Much studying of photos to get the details. Massive thanks to @needlessthingschannel for the detailed photos of the Prince Vultan figure, it was a huge help!! But we appear to be there! There's just a few small tweaks I need to do. Plus when he dresses in it for the con, his beard will be darkened and he'll have some fake tan on as his legs are milk bottle white 😅. Watched Mindwarp last night. I must add here that I am watching the alternate edits rather than the broadcast editions, and in 5.1 surround so in this case there is a new recreated instrumental score (less heavier than the original) by Richard Hartley. I have always struggled slightly with Mindwarp. I mean I like it, but I feel it is the one that suffers the most from the trappings of the trial. Also a shame that Nicola's last story as Peri is one where she is just continually downtrodden as the victim to some extent, and spends a majority of the story away from, or at odds with, the Doctor. After seeing Colin and Nicola gel extremely well in the previous story, it would have been nice to see more of that here especially for Peri's last story. On the plus sides, the story looks absolutely great and has tons atmosphere as well as a good cast, it is good to see Sil back and see his home world and more of his species etc, and obviously Brian Blessed is absolutely fantastic.
