So you're thinking about visiting the Disneyland resort and you're not sure where to stay...I'm going to layout the 3 Disney resorts as well as some Good Neighbor Hotels. ✨️ First up is the iconic Disneyland Hotel! All of the rooms are the same except for the view. Also the new DVC villas are different, unfortunately I did not get to see those. Pros: these have to be the most beautiful rooms in my opinion! Done in deep blues with gold and silver accents. ✨️ Close to Downtown Disney and both parks, less than a 10 minute walk. ✨️ They have some great restaurants like Tangaroa Terrence, Enchanted Tiki Bar and you can dine with Goofy and friends at Goofy's Kitchen. ✨️ Staying in the first Disney hotel with lots of pictures, murals and such, it gives you a sense of history. Cons: it is expensive to stay here compared to other hotels in the area. Last year Travel + Leisure ranked the Best U.S. Resorts for Families (ranked according to readers). There were a good amount of Disney resorts on the list, but let’s talk about the highest ranked at WDW. 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 • Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) was the highest ranked WDW resort on the list. The only other resort that made the list was Beach Club (BC). Funny enough AKL is my top choice for those who aren’t visiting the parks, and BC is my favorite WDW resort in general. But of the 20+ resorts at WDW, why AKL above all others. Well the predominant answer is described by the article as “a surreal sense of place”…… it’s the savanna of course! But more important than the savanna itself, in order to be ranked the 13th best family resort in the country, is how Disney utilized its savanna theming to create unique experiences. The diversity and nature (no pun intended) of these activities and experiences are what sets this resort above the rest. There are a variety of both animal and cultural activities that everyone in the family will likely enjoy. There are animal spotting activities (even ones that include night vision goggles), programs including helping prepare food for the animals, culinary tours, art tours, art and design classes like cookie decorating, etc. And most of these are guided and lead by an expert. This is a huge reason why I pick AKL as the best for a resort only stay. There’s so much to do and a lot of it is super educational in a fun environment. This is also why I love that the cultural representative program has returned to Disney World. Not even mentioned in the ranking description is how, in my opinion, AKL has the best overall dining lineup top to bottom - from pool bar to signature restaurant and everything in between. Obviously there’s room for debate there, but I think even the overall reviews of each and every dining option here are strong evidence of that. But yeah, Animal Kingdom Lodge…… if not for a stay, it’s a least worth a visit for sure.
Anyone else have this phone growing up??? The size of this version at Pop Century is about how big ours was in my imagination. We didn't have a ton of Disney stuff around, but every piece we had was special (quality over quantity!) As a kid I hated talking on the phone, but if I had to I made sure it was the Mickey phone. Our iguana, Solomon, also liked to perch on top of Mickey's head when she was small - it was very cute but made phone calls a bit more challenging! 🦎 Oh! ✨The Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel and Water Playground is a short 7 minute walk to Disneyland. It’s a direct one street path along Harbor Boulevard and you pass by 4 breakfast options: Mimi’s Cafe, Panera Bread, McDonalds, and IHOP. We use mobile ordering for Panera Bread and pick up our to-go bag on the walk. You’ll walk under the (underwhelming) Disneyland sign, go through a short line at security, and enter the magical Disneyland bubble. From here, go left for California Adventure, straight for Downtown Disney and Disney hotels, or right for Disneyland. See my next post for more info about Rope Drop! ✨Disneyland has many options for Good Neighbor Hotels within walking distance and some offer shuttle service. Most Good Neighbor hotels cost between $200-600 per night depending on the type of room and time of year. On site Disneyland hotels cost $600-1200 per night so it’s a significant savings. I have only stayed at the Grand Californian on one occasion (my Mom’s 80th…what a celebration that was!) I bought this pin at the lobby store of the hotel because it is one of the key properties in Anaheim and I have spent many an hour just relaxing in the lobby listening to the piano player, admiring the holiday decor in December or just relaxing with a drink. If you have ever been to one of the early 20th century lodges at Glacier National Park or Yellowstone…you know how well the lobby of the Grand Californian captures the spirit of those places and the ideal of wilderness adventure and exploration that also recalls some of the Disney True Life Adventure series from the 1950’s and 1960’s. It’s not only the southernmost area of Movies, but it’s the southernmost area of the entire All Star Resorts trio. So there’s no essentially zero through traffic. Also, by design it’s made to look like Andy’s room. So much so that the area is blocked off by a giant wall and a door that’s slightly ajar. It’s an area that at first glance looks like a dead end. But if you don’t walk through that giant door, you’re missing out on a lot of great theming. Theming that includes a 25 foot Woody, and a 35 foot Buzz Lightyear. Both of which are bigger and taller than their Toy Story Land counterparts!

Yesterday was all about California Adventure Park! We rope dropped radiator springs racers, explored marvel campus, had a snack at pym's test kitchen, saw the new San Fransokyo square, rode incredicoaster at Pixar pier and hit the rest of our favorite rides all before noon!! I love the ease of Disneyland and how compact everything is! Strategizing park days is one of my favorite things to do and genie+ at Disneyland is actual magic! 🧞♂️ My favorite ride here is a toss up between guardians and radiator racers! What's yours?!
