📚Book Review📚 – A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins I picked this up on my Kindle when it was on sale as I loved The Girl on a Train. I finally got around to reading it and I enjoyed it but it was a bit too predictable for me. A young man is found murdered and three local women are connected to him in various ways. The women all have secret agendas and secrets and we follow each of them as the investigation gets underway. There were multiple points of view and numerous time jumps throughout the book, but I feel like this would have been better done by having different narrators. I grew to route for two of the women and enjoyed uncovering all their secrets. The second half was more intense, with lots of crimes beginning to connect and getting towards the climax for the reveal which I enjoyed but I also worked out what the outcome was pretty early on. It was an enjoyable thriller, but nothing that blew my mind or surprised me at all. Je vous laisse découvrir la suite de l'intrigue, les soupçons de rivalité, d'infidélité, de mensonge, et le dénouement, etc..... si vous avez envie de perdre votre temps. Car en dépit de tous les ingrédients séduisants tels que l'Écosse (à peine effleurée), une maison en bord de littoral, la vengeance d'une femme traumatisée, le récit fait flop. Il est très court et survolé, aussi bien dans la psychologie des personnages que dans l'installation du décor. Honnêtement, ça m'a fait l'effet dun coup éditorial, comme si l'autrice à succès avait accepté de faire ses fonds de tiroir pour publier quelque chose. Le faux rebondissement de la fin est tellement abrupt et incohérent qu'il semble avoir été bâclé. Bref, un texte décevant rempli de clichés. The Girl On The Train is quite well known for the film adaptation, but what was the allure of directing this stage version? 🎭 We read a lot of scripts to find a play that gripped us both. We knew it had to be a character-driven drama. We stumbled across TGOTT and loved it. We knew and loved the book and the script was so closely true to the story. It was hard-hitting, tense and gripping, but also rooted in the simplicity of a clear and concise story-line. 2. Seeing co-directors is rare, but married ones even moreso! In what ways have the bonds of marriage been useful in bringing this play to life? 👩❤️👨 We have really relished the opportunity to work together on a project of this nature. We’re fortunate enough to have very aligned visions and expectations, and a good insight into how the other thinks. It’s been wonderful to share the process both in and out of rehearsals. We’ve really loved working together. 3. What does WPDS mean to you both? ❤️ It’s all about the people. Someone has been waiting for this moment. Now that Edie is alone, the past she tried so hard to leave behind is about to catch up with her... My thoughts: One is lonely, Two’s a pair and Three well that just gets a bit awkward. Edie, Jake and Ryan have been friends since the beginning, but it is ultimately Jake that wins Edie’s heart. Jake is brutally murdered and Ryan becomes the prime suspect - leaving Edie conflicted with everything she once knew. But there is a stalker hiding amongst the shadows who is watching and waiting.. This was a straightforward murder mystery type thriller, with relatively few characters, as is the case with most novellas the characters are fairly simple and the back story minimal - this does make it much harder to become fully invested in the story. It is extremely fast paced, being only 120 pages long, but there is still an adequate amount of action and drama. A few twists along the way and a relatively explosive finale - although somewhat predictable. I absolutely adored The Girl On The Train & whilst this was a nice easy read it did miss the mark for me on certain points as listed above - however if you are after reading a nice easy novella if you are either in a slump or just fancy a shorter read this has been one of my favourite short-reads out of the quick reads collection. #quickreads #novella #thriller #paulahawkins #bookstagram #bookreview

Y ha resultado ser un regalo que me ha gustado… pero tampoco mucho, me ha parecido un libro para pasar el rato con un thriller donde debemos descubrir quién es el asesino, pero no mucho más. Como siempre soy una detective pésima que no acierta ni pa’ tras… 😅 Los personajes que aparecen tienen todos alguna historia misteriosa detrás que te hacen dudar, pero ninguno de ellos me ha llegado a calar ni para bien ni para mal. No me han resultado simpáticos ni accesibles. Por lo que tal vez no recomendaría rotundamente leer este libro, aunque me imagino que habrá a quien le encante. Recenze POMALU HOŘÍCÍ OHEŇ Paula Hawkins Na lodi je nalezeno tělo mladého muže a spolu s ním stopy vedoucí k Lauře, kulhavé podivínce. Nakonec je však celý případ mnohem zamotanější, než se na první pohled zdálo, jelikož mladík nebyl žádný andílek a lidí, kteří by se ho mohli chtít zbavit, během vyšetřování stále přibývá. Kdo je tedy skutečným vrahem? Ošklivá a pomstychtivá Miriam, která mrtvého našla? Laura, jenž občas ztrácí sebekontrolu? Carla, nebožtíkova teta, která trpí ztrátou vlastního dítěte? Nebo snad její bývalý manžel Theo, jehož mohla k vraždě dohnat žárlivost? Chytře propracovaný detektivní thriller, který vás neustále nabádá k přemýšlení, kdo že je vlastně tím skutečným vrahem, když podezřele vyhlíží téměř každý z protagonistů. A že jich je opravdu hodně. Navíc jsou všichni nesympatičtí naprosto stejnou měrou a najít v té změti postav alespoň jednu, která by vyčnívala nad ostatní, je skoro až nadlidský úkol. Nakonec jsem asi nejvíc sympatizovala se starou Irene, která má v románu taktéž své podstatné místo. Příběh samotný není nikterak strhující, ale rozhodně mu nechybí promyšlenost a mírné napětí, které však stačí k tomu, aby udrželo čtenářovu pozornost až do konce. Autorka opět zvolila vláčnější tempo. Nikoli však takové, že byste u něho usnuli, ale spíše s lačnou nedočkavostí vyčkáváte, co se bude dít dál a jste plně odhodlaní být svědkem toho, jak se celé to zašmodrchané klubko osudů nakonec rozmotá. POMALU HOŘÍCÍ OHEŇ je napínavým psychologickým thrillerem s propracovanou zápletkou od autorky bestselleru Dívka ve vlaku, který sice nepředčil, ale Paulu Hawkins rozhodně nezahanbil. This book is more mystery than thriller but it kept me turning the pages! As três têm vidas tão diferentes, mas acabam com um acontecimento que as une: a noite em que uma delas desaparece. Rachel, a rapariga no comboio, conta a história principal. Uma mulher que em tempos foi uma esposa dedicada, mas que se tornou em alguém irreconhecível. Todos os dias faz a mesma viagem de comboio e acaba por ver algo que a vai envolver na descoberta de um crime frio e macabro. • Um aspeto negativo do livro é um início lento. Somos obrigados a ler com mais atenção pelo facto de estar em formato diário e, por vezes, ter datas do passado misturadas com as do presente (dei por mim a ter que voltar atrás para conferir onde estava 🤦🏻♀️). Siamo in una cittadina dell’Inghilterra, quelle cittadine dove tutti si conoscono e i segreti delle famiglie vengono nascosti sotto il tappeto. È una lettura che va fatta continuativamente perché tutti i capitoli appartengono ai diversi abitanti di Beckford e pagina dopo pagina la soffocante vita di paese con tutte le sue leggende sul fiume che attira le donne ad abbandonarsi a lui si insinua anche nel lettore. Julia Abbott è costretta a tornarci a Beckford, dopo le v!olenze e gli scherni subiti in gioventù perché nel fiume viene ritrovata senza vita sua sorella Nel. Torna così agli incubi dell’adolescenza con in più la responsabilità di curare sua nipote Lena, ragazza sveglia ma che custodisce segreti inconfessabili. In un dipanarsi di pensieri, indagini, verità nascoste Julia e Lena arriveranno, non senza difficoltà, a svelare tutto quello che è successo a Nel e a scoprire anche cosa è successo alle donne che sono state ritrovate negli anni nel greto del fiume. Si arriva verso la fine dove si legge e si capisce chi è stato e perché ma…la Hawkins ci regala un boccone amaro difficile da mandar giù proprio quando sembra che il cerchio sia chiuso! Nějakou dobu mi trvalo se do knihy 📖začíst, jelikož kniha obsahuje mnoho postav👮♂️ často jsem se v nich ztrácela. Velmi se mi líbilo to jak se příběhy všech obyvatel prolínají a postupně odhalují nějaká ta tajemství. Několikrát během příběhu mi ukápla slzička💧 třeba když Jules byla znásilněná klukem její sestry 👩🏼❤️💋👨🏻nebo šikanovaná za svojí postavu. Samotný konec mě trochu zklamal. Přišel mi zbytečně moc komplikovaný a asi by bylo lepší kdyby nakonec nebylo vůbec prozrazeno kdo skutečně vrah🔪 byl.
