That’s a wrap for Maine!🦞 To start the week, we stayed at the Pumpkin Patch RV Park for a few days before heading to our destination of Bar Harbor, or Ba Haba, as the locals call it. We both work full time Monday thru Friday so it can sometimes be a challenge to fully enjoy the places we visit. For this stay we had Friday off to enjoy the town and visit Acadia National Park. To our surprise Bar Harbor has been our favorite place on this trip yet! We hear it gets packed in the summer months. It's rainy and windy today, please be sure to bring in those awnings, it's a costly mistake to keep a few bits and baubles dry. If you are going to bed, leaving for a minute or even just going on a hike....bring in the awning! Believe me, with an awning the furniture looks like an outdoor living space and once you roll it up, it just looks like a hot mess, but at least your awning and rig are safe! My husband drove around waiting to see if they would come out and need some help but we think they may have been gone. While mama was in Nashville… 🏍️💨 We had been asking at motorcycle stores about dirt bike schools and no one seemed to know of any. After dropping me off at the airport, Paul and the kids went to one we hadn’t visited and there they found out about someone in town that did have a track and gave lessons. They drive there and the owner happened to be there getting the track ready for races on the following day. He only gave lessons to folks with their own bikes but he offered two of his bikes for them to use for only $50. Always good to ask the locals. It can sometimes lead to unexpected adventure. ✨S I M P L E > COMPLICATED! This is why we moved from a 5th wheel to a 27’ travel trailer with no slides. At this stage in our lives we want simplicity! We had our shakedown trip last weekend and kept wondering what we forgot because it only took us 15 minutes to set up or tear down. We actually waited longer than that on the dump station. Our new inTech OVR Navigate is easy to tow and pull into spots. While Jon works on the outside, I can do what I need to on the inside—no more waiting on being level or slides to go in/out or solid stairs to go in or out. If we want to have lunch at a beautiful pull-off (or rest area) somewhere on travel days, we can get to everything we’d need. Most trips it will only be the two of us with the college kids maybe 1-2 times per year. We feel like our options just tripled with off-grid capabilities. We’re looking forward to more scenes like this with neighbors a little further away. 😉 🚩 What’s something you love about your current rig or something you’re looking for? About 15.5 million years ago a series of violent volcanic explosions deposited rhyolite ash and rock fragments into areas known today as the Mahogany Mountain caldera and the Three Fingers Caldera. Leslie Gulch lies within the Mahogany Mountain Caldera and its steep slopes, honeycombed walls and fanciful spires were formed after years of wind, water, and ice erosion. If I’m being honest… we don’t want to leave southern Oregon. 😭 I guess this is the danger of traveling, you fall in love with places. Even more than this beautiful location is the people we have met. Having community as a traveler can be challenging! We have been simply blown away by the hospitality and kindness of our church community - it gives a whole new perspective on the church nationwide. It blows my mind that we entered as strangers and were instantly welcomed as family. From our weekly small group community, weekend retreats, joining worship team, and having dinner at the pastors house - we are overwhelmed by the love and sad to say goodbye! Not even to mention our PICKLEBALL community 🫶🏼 Being able to have friends over to the RV for breakfast or a campfire, meeting up on weekends and being invited to another’s home gives us a sense of community that is hard to get as a traveler. The Mojave Desert rolled out its gold carpet for us while we were there in early April! I was so excited to see the beginnings of a superbloom! Superblooms don't happen often, but with all of the rain that California was getting, I had been hoping that we would see one. I'm not 100% sure, but these yellow flowers looked like chinchweed. Campground Review Hacienda RV Resort Las Cruces, New Mexico We stayed here for 2 nights. Very nice RV resort. Sites were a little close together but it was not bad. Sites were gravel and most were pull thru. Would definitely recommend stopping here if you are in Las Cruces. It is an hour drive from here to White Sands National Park. We are on an epic road trip in ICELAND! 🇮🇸 Fulfilling a longtime dream (that was delayed by Covid) to tour the country in a motorhome and stay in their beautiful campsites and national parks! DAY ONE! We landed at KEF at about 9:30 am and took a Taxi to THE BLUE LAGOON. It was a dreamy and relaxing way to start the trip. A perfect way to revitalize ourselves after the five and a half hour direct flight from JFK. After a nice long soak in the warm waters we had a casual lunch and the owner of our motorhome rental company came to pick us up and bring us to his facility to pick up our home on wheels. We chose @renteasy_iceland and had an amazing experience from start to finish. The Etrusco motorhome was so comfortable and perfect for us. And the owners of the company were so eager to help us plan our trip and point us to all of the best spots and campsites. They were so much more than just a rental company—they helped guide our trip. After our motorhome orientation we drove to the Reykjavik Eco Campsite for the first night of camping. It was a perfect basecamp to explore this magnificent city. Cleans and safe—and in a great location. We will talk about this campsite more on the podcast and post more pics here. Then we headed downtown for a Icelandic Food Tour with a company called ”Your Friend in Reykjavik” and sampled everything from Icelandic Hot Dogs (awesome!) to fermented Shark (yuck!). It was a fun and informative way to spend our first night in Iceland! Reykjavik is a MAGNIFICENT city and it’s awesome that you can camp right there! And the people are kind and welcoming! After the tour we headed back to our campsite (they call them campsites not campgrounds) and went to bed. It was after 11pm but still light out. Only five national parks are smaller than Congaree National Park in South Carolina, but this squishy, swampy, southern space has a big personality. 🐸 🦎🐍 Although it's just 42 square miles, Congaree is the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeast U.S., and is home to many state and national Champion trees. 🌳 We walked 2 miles of elevated boardwalk and kayaked Cedar Creek, spotting frogs, lizards, turtles, owls, pileated woodpeckers, warblers, countless snakes, and one alligator. 🐊 I never realized a "swamp"* could be so beautiful. (*We also learned Congaree is not technically a swamp. 😁 It is a "floodplain forest," because the water levels constantly vary.) #31 - halfway there!
