Het tackelen van deze trails test niet alleen je skills, maar versterkt mijn vastberadenheid om steeds beter te worden. De gladheid van de rotsen en de modderige paden dagen je uit in elke bocht, afdaling en klim. Techniek, controle en zelfvertrouwen zijn essentieel en zorgen ervoor dat elke uitglijder, afdaling en elke beklimming bijdraagt aan je ontwikkeling. Dat is ook waarom ik doe wat ik doe: de passie voor Enduro, de natuur en het delen van die passie met anderen. 🌲🔥 Tip: Check altijd je bike vooraf en achteraf vooral de lagers na zo’n natte rit, zie foto’s mijn bike had wat extra onderhoud nodig Voor vandaag wordt het iets rustiger maar net zo tof. Wednesday eve, 7:35 PM It’s New Bike Day. I’ve been in possession of my #OrbeaOiz for less than an hour and I’m hell bent on getting a ride in before dark. I point toward the bowl at the far end of the preserve and barely even make it out of the parking lot before I encounter Mr. Grumpy Pants here, and he is not in a sharing mood. No, I did not try to bunny hop over him, and foliage was too dense and thistley at the side of the trail. Grumpy Pants was coiled and ready to tangle, so eventually the hikers and I each gave up and turned around. It led me to wonder, are there some snake motivational techniques I need to learn? Got any tricks to share? (Barring, of course, any harm to the snake, who actually has a legitimate claim to the trail.) Conditions got so dangerous that the @svbizau team pulled the trigger on the latest ones before the last climb at KM 23.5. While that meant my first DNF, the broken LekI pole, the hole on my Salomon and my ass full of mud 😂 prove that it was the right call, safety first! And many thanks to all the volunteers. Unbelievable the places where they stayed across the race, keeping us safe 🫶🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The race was a test to see if I was ready for the technical 35KM at the @innsbruckalpine. Honest answer, I am not; This asphalt animal needs more hours in the mountains—time to change to the 25KM and keep on building trail running skills. Been some time since I posted, but races and other events are returning again! Last month (April 24th) I had my rematch with the Hyner Trail Challenge. I went up against a god, to punch it in the face! It was a struggle and no joke. Back in 2019, I tapped out after 4 miles or “The View” as they call it. However, I was able to push beyond. Which is the meaning of all challenges. There were moments on this course where I was crying, cursing myself, feeling beaten and broken. I kept asking myself, “why?” Who am I trying to impress? Maybe at one time I was trying to grab the Golden Apple from the glass mountain, but today was for me. I wanted to do this, I wanted to taste victory and drink with the heroes that bested this beast before me. I had no choice but to move forward and continue onward. While an individual, I was not alone and help was given. From the other challengers encouragement to the volunteers with nourishment. After a successful Strawberry Mountain Wilderness Traverse, I stuck around to complete a Strawberry Mountain Wilderness Loop, or Strawberry Lollipop. My run went smoothly, however, my Strava app had glitched at the start but I didnt notice it until after I was finished. So...I had the pleasure of running this 19-mile loop twice! To my surprise, I beat my previous day's time by 29 minutes 🏃♂️ That's pretty sweet! To fuel this unsupported loop run, I carried one bag of black mission figs, apple juice sweetened cranberries, and whole dried bananas and another bag of dried mango, papaya, jackfruit, and pineapple. Plus a juicy organic carrot. Temps were perfect for this effort, although the air was too smoky to see very far from the summit. Great camping at the trailhead. This was one of the best new hikes I've done in a while. Highly recommended!
