It's finally here! Panoply 2024! This upcoming Friday, Saturday and Sunday I will be at Panoply in Huntsville, AL for every hour it is open. It's going to be a whirlwind of a weekend that's for sure! I'll be easy to find, I am going to be set up right next to the Panoply Store Tent! Where all sorts of merch will be sold with my work on it! As I am sure you all know by now, I am the Panoply Poster Artist for this year. Every year one local artist is chosen to represent Panoply and create a unique piece featured as their representative poster. This year is the year I have been chosen. I created a very fantastical piece with characters representing Big Spring Park in Huntsville, AL. If you have never come out to Panoply before, you should, even if it is just because you're my friend and there to support me. I will never have another Panoply like this, let alone any other event I exhibit my work at that will be like this one. This is stage 3.5! In the creation of the Panoply 2024 poster commissioned by Arts Huntsville. This is all of the pencil line work. I develop all of my illustrations in 3 stages starting with pencil, moving to fine line inking and then coloring using alcohol markers. I thought I would show everyone the halfway mark in the coloring process before I show the final completely colored piece. Typically when I am working on coloring an illustrations there's quite literally anywhere from 100 to close to 300 colors put into the piece. The Panoply poster had almost 300 colors put into it. It's hard to keep track of exactly how many when the majority of my marker collection was surrounding me in piles on my desk! A picture of my teenage art club: Junior Illustrator's Guild! This is an art club I host monthly in person meetings for, usually on a Friday night from 6 to 8 PM. The teens come hangout at my studio and participate in monthly art challenges, doodle on 6 foot pieces of paper I lay out on each table. They currently have 3 papers going, with one of them nearing being filled. Not to mention talking nerdy things and sharing the art projects they are working on. We also have a Discord server for anyone who is not able to meet in person, we have many art club members from other states or further south than we are in Huntsville, AL. The Discord server allows the teens to hang out on there and have a safe space to talk and show their in progress and completed pieces. Out next monthly in person meeting will be Friday, May 17th from 6 to 8 PM in my studio at Lowe Mill A&E. The second stage in the creation of the Panoply 2024 poster commissioned by Arts Huntsville. This is all of the inked line work. I develop all of my illustrations in 3 stages starting with pencil, usually a mechanical pencil so I get clean lines and then I go on top of the pencil lines with a fine liner. I specifically use a Copic Multiliner ranging between .1, .3, .5 and brush tips. I draw out each area in a mono line first and then I go back in and vary my thin and thick lines, usually basing my linework around where the light will hit and shadows will occur. The Gulfport Merchants Chamber (GMC) is currently accepting applications for two Rise & Shine Emerging Artist Grants, aimed at supporting emerging artists in Pinellas County. These grants offer funding, marketing, advertising support, and exhibition space in Gulfport’s vibrant creative events. Each grant is valued at $1,100. Requirements of the grant must be completed within a one-year period. The grant includes: • Upon award, $500 to be use for displays, materials and supplies related to your aspirations as an artist. • $250 in five (5) booth reservations at Gulfport’s First Friday Art Walk OR Third Saturday IndieFaire. • Jury Exempt and 1/2 price booth for the Gulfport Fine Arts Festival (GFAF) (Value of $160.00). Every person who makes one see's something different in the ink and uses the materials differently. No two monsters will ever be alike. How does making your own Inkblot Monster work? Stop into Studio 1055 (Inspitter Studio, located on the first floor directly beyond door 2). It is $10 per monster made. Claim a seat (if one is available, otherwise you may have to wait your turn) You will be walked through how to spray the ink, and then once you have the ink set, it will be dried with a handy dandy hair dryer!
