Bootlegs were a massive thing in the mid to late 70’s for Elvis fans. They took it upon themselves to release unused Elvis recordings for fans. This is one of those releases from the year 1978, Elvis’ Hawaii Benefit Concert. It’s Elvis’ charity show at the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial in Hawaii in 1961. I absolutely love the bootleg! The packaging is fantastic, the cover is amazing and it is a gatefold that includes a ton of newspaper articles covering this event. Sadly, the sound on this release is not super good. It doesn’t sound bad, but it’s not super clear sounding either. But, in 1980 RCA released the silver box which contains this show and it sounds very good, much better than the bootleg. The silver box took some of the material that the bootleggers had released and officially released it. The bootleg release is still fantastic and Elvis put on an excellent show of his hits and songs that were relatively new at the time. Some of my favorites on here are (Now And Then There’s) A Fool Such As I, I Need Your Love Tonight, Reconsider Baby, Swing Down Sweet Chariot, and I Got A Woman. If you haven’t listened to this show, I highly recommend it, it’s fantastic!
