In my deeper understanding, and my greater capacity for compassion and grace of my own Soma, (my body), I’ve been noticing a lot of pain these last couple weeks and an old familiar holding pattern slowly returning.  visually, my head and neck are rounding and leaning forward, my shoulders rounding forward and lifting up near my ears, my heart is pressing back, and my pelvis is tilting anterior. sensationally, I felt in my neck, shoulder and upper back tight, achy, stiff, contraction; shortness of breath and holding, and a stuck, hard throbbing in my hips. Rather than immediately think that I need to get rid of this, I have been listening. This morning, I had time ti witness what my body was yearning to express. There was there a charge energetically, my body was shaking. I started sweating, tears weld up in my eyes and my body needed to move and shake and rock and circle.  I held space for the deeper wisdom of my body to release for about four or five minutes. ✨From Shame to Love✨ This has been such a journey for me. I’ve told others to give themselves grace when looking at their past and remember that they were just doing the best they could with the tools they had at the time. And when I looked back on the mistakes I felt I had made at a young age, so much shame and frustration would swell in me, and I would think “I was young, I messed up, it’s okay.” But approaching our past in this way is lacking the deeper understanding and compassion that what we did and allowed in those early years was because of our very human need for love. I also realized instances I was looking at, and thinking “well I just was young and insecure, I didn’t know how to stand up for myself”…I was taking the blame for someone else’s wrong doing to me. I was holding shame and anger around something that was never my fault. I wanted to be loved, and I had no idea what that was supposed to look like, and that was taken advantage of. As women, we are conditioned to believe our bodies, our pleasure are for our partners. That this is how we receive love. Taking my pleasure back for myself has been a revelation for my healing in so many ways. Allowing myself to have compassion for that sweet young girl who was trying so hard. Showing myself and my body love, the way she deserved to be loved, not used. For the first time, I am looking back on my young teenage/early 20s self with tenderness for all those moments. She is me and I am her, and with the release of the shame and anger comes such deep healing. Love the wounded parts of yourself, and watch how it transforms you 🌹💗🌹

It can take time dear ones, to integrate and even welcome shadow. My past limiting self beliefs tell of stories and wounds not just from my past but my families past. As I continue to learn about myself and allow all parts to walk forward, I find the language (both spoken and thought) shifts. Sterilization laws, such as one that existed in B.C. until the 1970s, empowered doctors to sterilize people without their knowledge or consent. As the Canadian Senate’s 2022 report, "The Scars that We Carry" describes, this was used “as a strategy to subjugate and eliminate First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples” and also disproportionately affected other vulnerable groups, including Black and racialized women, and persons with disabilities. Despite the removal of laws that support this genocidal practice, the report establishes that “forced and coerced sterilization is a horrific and ongoing practice in Canada. Great news – Health Canada has now authorized using Mirena as birth control for up to 8 years! While the @fda approved the same in the United States a few years ago, Health Canada's official guidance continued to state that Mirena could be used for 5 years. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) already made the "off-label" recommendation that Mirena was effective up to 7 years, depending on the age when it was inserted. Taking the @sogcorg lead, many providers have shared this advice with their clients. But now it's official – Health Canada approves the use of Mirena for contraception up to a maximum of 8 years - for all ages! With a cumulative 0.7% of people getting pregnant while using Mirena over this time, having such a long-acting, effective method is a gamechanger. Note that folks can still have their IUD removed whenever they are ready; and for the purpose of managing heavy menstrual periods, Mirena is still recommended for just 5 years. Today is the first day of #eatingdisorderawarenessweek and to celebrate that, I went to the gym to move my body in a way that feels good. I made adjustments to routines because it works best for my body, and I stopped when my body and mind felt peacefully done - not when I had “no more to give”. Two years ago, I would not have been able to say any of those things. When I worked out, I believed it needed to hurt in order for it to work. And in order for it to be “working” my body needed to be shrinking. A year ago, I didn’t trust myself to live my body without trying to hurt it, so I stopped moving it completely which hurt my body and mind equally. This year, I’m reflecting on the peace I’ve found with myself and my body with the help of an amazing community of people who inspire me every single day - oftentimes without knowing it ❤️ #edaw2024 #bodysovereignty #healingincommunity

Thank you to all the advocates who are making this change a reality! We will be watching in the coming days to see how each province adopts this plan. The Ontario Drug Benefit already covers prescriptions for some individuals, such as those under age 25 who do not have drug benefits through work school, or family members. Clients who should be receiving this benefit sometimes share that pharmacists have charged them for the cost of their prescriptions in the past. They have not necessarily learned about what they should be entitled to, or of ways that they can advocate for themselves. In addition to drastically expanding access, we believe that making birth control free for anyone with OHIP will go a long way to preventing these situations from happening. Choice in Health will continue to fill in gaps by making contraception free or affordable for all our clients through our Access Fund. I took this picture while going for a walk a few afternoons ago. It was cloudy ☁️ and chilly🥶but the sky was absolutely beautiful!🙌 Plus I was dressed like a polar bear 🐻❄️ so all was well! Lol 😂 The important reminder of 💭all movement is good movement💭 once again came to mind. We are taught to see movement/exercise solely as a form of weight loss and/or punishment. We are fed beliefs like, exercise is painful, exercise is hard. If it doesn’t make you sweat it doesn’t count. If you don’t burn a ton of calories it doesn’t count. There’s this constant pressure to perform, prove something and fit into some sort of box.🙄🙄🙄 Our worth is not tied to how many steps we take or calories we burn.❌‼️ I don’t know about you, but I align much more with the idea that all movement is good movement. All movement is food for your cells, muscles and bones. All movement gets your blood and energy moving. Any kind of movement that brings you joy and guides you back home to your body is food for your heart and soul.💫 For me walking in nature🌳🌿 is my soul nourishment. I feel nothing but peace, harmony, oneness and unconditional love. I feel the most comfortable in my skin.
