The night of the launch event for Talking to Sissy, my family gathered at a resturaunt called Busboys and Poets in celebration of my accomplishment. I had never been to the establishment before but had friends and family who had raved about the food, and I was excited to finally eat there. Imagine my surprise when I entered the resturaunt and saw an entire bookstore at the front of the building. So many books and related items available for purchase. I was in awe. Immediately I began to explore titles and merchandise. I only stopped in my tracks when a family member suggested I inquire about having my book placed there. When fashion photographer and costume designer Cecil Beaton died in 1980, it was not surprising that one of his tailors was telephoned with the news before Buckingham Palace, despite his close association with the Royal Family. From the moment he arrived at Cambridge University in 1922 wearing an evening jacket, red shoes, black-and-white trousers, and a large cravat, to his appearance nearly forty years later at Truman Capotes Black and White Ball, Beaton expressed a flamboyant sartorial nonchalance.
