Today, first time I prepared myself really quick to go to a stroll with baby. Baby is 19 days, and doing well. And time seems to have been passed very quick. This is really impressive. Husband went to register baby, now baby G is officially a citizen. By the way, it is really interesting that in UK you have 42 days to register the birth of a new born. I was feeding baby and my mum was going to take my 🐶 out. So I decided to join the walk. Since baby arrived I almost haven’t gone out with my 🐶 and she also needs attention. It was sunny around 11am today, but we got some rain after midday. But very happy to go for a long walk. And baby was just asleep during the time. Baby blues Have you felt emotional, started crying for no reason, fully overwhelmed and even felt sad after having a baby, and couldn’t explain why? The baby blues are a mild temporary depression that it goes away after 2 weeks of postpartum. They started usually on day 4 after delivery. Did you suffer with baby blues? Honestly, a friend of mine mentioned it she had it when I was around 30 weeks pregnant. I did some research and also talked with GP, as I was afraid for some time to be developing prenatal depression. In fact, I was tired and overwhelmed with work, as well struggling with a lot of rib cage pain. I got a sick leave to stop working earlier and it was all what I needed at that time. 5 days after baby G arrived, I would found myself looking him on his crib and for no reason I would be in tears. My husband would ask me what was happening and I couldn’t explain in words. There were no really words to explain. I’d cried for a fee days, most at night. But I can say it settled. I allowed myself to cry and getting all the feelings out. Hormones are all changing and the emotional rollercoaster it is there after having a baby. I feel better today, but there are moments that I still feel some uncontrollable emotions. I am learning to live with a newborn and it is all new. Definitely, if things escalate I know I have support and should also ask for help. If you are feeling down weeks after delivery and you don’t know how to explain, you should always talk to your midwife or health advisor. The maternity routine has started and it has been a rollercoaster of feelings as well fully on in learning to take care of small human being. As this first post of my journey, THIS IS ME on my most daily outfits. Loungewear and PJs have been my dearest friends. I bought some nice ones on my last month of pregnancy already thinking that I would rather be more in loungewear during the day to feel comfortable. Baby and I are still discovering our breastfeeding routine. He is not very keen to latch, and as I need him to put weight (he was born smaller and lost weight in his first days - I will share this in another post soon). I’ve been feeling very hot and struggling with night sweats (hormones). So most I am in a top that I can keep pumping when I need. I am joking that I became a milky 🐮 so much I am pumping. Honestly I can’t complain. I am very happy to be able to have enough milk. I know this is not easy, so as long as I can or I feel comfortable I will keep doing. I know there are many strong opinions about ultrasounds during pregnancy and we are working on some very comprehensive posts for the site but long story short- we are all about informed decisions and both my husband and I feel a short anatomy scan halfway through pregnancy is the right choice for our family. We are praising God that baby girl looks healthy and strong 💪🏼 • Flutters turned into kicks. One of my favorite parts of pregnancy. Not just the physical feeling but the reassurance, the bonding, the connection- SO special 💫 • Enjoying this “sweet spot” of pregnancy. Where the bump is cute, but you can still see your feet and move with ease. It is FRIDAY and COUNTDOWN AGAIN 😅 37 weeks - 0 to go! 🥰🤰🏽 As I’ve been showing my water has broken, it was confirmed on Monday. But it is really just dripping. Haven’t had the water flushed at all. As we’ve been monitored, baby is fine, there was enough fluid. We were able to keep baby inside until completing 37 weeks and be considered a full term baby. I had steroids injections, antibiotics. I have been feeling fine. No contractions, anything. I even think that I would might not had gone to hospital as yet, if it wasn’t for our midwife requesting us to call hospital. I always said, that I was ok to baby to come early, I wanted at least to reach 37 weeks. I just want him to be healthy. I am really excited and anxious about the next steps, but I am sure it will be a beautiful adventure. From now, the Friday photos will show the journey of a postpartum mom. When you got a POSITIVE on the test to check if your water broken 😂 There was not much loss of fluids, doctor when examined couldn’t see water, but the sample removed came back with the news that, YES, my water is broken. We got admitted to further tests and antibiotics. As baby gets more susceptible to infections after the water is broken. We were reviewed by Obstetrician, and now we will meeting our little guy 2 weeks earlier than anticipated. C-section was rescheduled for this Friday, 15th December. Baby will be full term, 37 weeks. So, we are not worried. As I haven’t entered in labour we are still able to wait. We got new scans to check the fluid levels in the placenta and the blood flow in the umbilical cord and it has been all good. So as I see I am dripping slowly the water. Considering it has been 3 weeks that I’ve been loosing mucus it sounds that everything it happening but all in good time. I will not deny, I wanted baby before Christmas, and now he will have a good date for his future birthday celebrations as well. It is FRIDAY and COUNTDOWN AGAIN 😅 36 weeks - Just 3 more weeks to go This week started very busy with the final touches for baby’s nursery room. My mum arrived from Brazil to wait for her grandson and help us. My rib cage has been incredibly painful. I’ve been trying to be on top of the pain and most of the days need to take the full dose of dihydrocodeine. Today we have our 36 weeks scan to be sure baby G is growing as expected. At @nhsengland if your pregnancy is running smooth and you are not considered at risk they will provide you just with 3 scans: 12,20 and 36 weeks. We had 2 extras during our pregnancy. It is FRIDAY and COUNTDOWN AGAIN 😅 35 weeks - Just 4 more weeks to go This week it was a mix of very productive days and some hours of laziness. I am doing much bette. The last 2 days my rib cage got sore again. This morning even had to take some medicine. But overall very happy indeed. Baby things are getting all set. Grandma (my mum) is arriving next week. Tonight hubby and I will go for a special dinner, as it will be our last date night until at least February (it is our wedding anniversary then, and we are planning a dinner out at that time if it works). Perineal Massage The main it is to support your vaginal birth avoiding tears. It will also help with any burning sensations during birth. NHS recommends you to start around 34 weeks. Honestly, I’ve been so focused on that I have an elective c-section that I really didn’t research before about perineal massage. I heard about on my antenatal course and just that. It was interesting to see that many places will recommend even for a c-section as baby might decide to come earlier. I’ve been running to hospital every time I feel some contractions as I want to guarantee a c-section. But maybe I should do some massage just in case. 😅 And you? Have you done? Did it help you? Did you need stitches? I have friends that got tearing and others that didn’t. If you are in doubt you should always raise with your midwife or health advisor. Do you know what is colostrum? And colostrum harvest? Did you plan to breastfeed? The liquid gold as many refers to colostrum due to the high concentration of nutrients, can be harvested even if you don’t plan to breastfeed as it can be given in the first baby’s feedings to support their digestive system development and increase their antibodies. I had part of one of my antenatal course on breastfeeding and harvesting. I haven’t discussed this with my midwife yet, as I believe this will be part of our 36 weeks appointment. @nhsengland recommends harvesting colostrum from 36 weeks onwards and bring to hospital a small quantity to support first baby feedings. What are your thoughts? Are you going to try to do it? Honestly, I haven’t felt any milk leaking as yet. But reading made me realise I shall not try as well yet to not relaxe the uterus (most when I am already anxious that baby might come earlier). More 10 days and I am seeing midwife again and I will discuss with her. If you have doubts about this process or any issues, please don’t hesitate to contact your midwife or health advisor. Bags at the 🚗 Our baby bag was packed for a few weeks already. Yesterday after our hospital journey we realised we should be more prepared. We packed my hospital snacks, as well my things and husband. We got formula ready milk as suggested by all readings we did. Now it is all at the car. Offcourse charges, phone and computer it will be just when we are ready to go. But at least we have the essentials. 36 week bump date 🤍 This means postpartum prep has begun. Finalizing my doula contract, babysitters, and family help. Making my lists for meal prep, hospital bag and getting together my recovery room the next few weeks. Wrapping up where I am with work projects and scheduling out the rest of my content for the month of December. My postpartum recovery plan is already written and loaded. “Gigi, what is that?” 🐶🥰 We received our pram set + crib + bouncer chair this week. We are now figuring the house space. Alex will be sleeping at the crib in a side we organise dor him. It is the area that can get best temperature near the window. We brought a comfy chair to help me breastfeed him. I am organising the shelves with some necessities (diapers, sipe, cream etc). Make it easier to change him during night. As Gigi sleeps in our bed, I am trying to make her acquaintance of the new object in the room. She was really smelling and pay attention. I will not allow her inside the crib, but she needs to learn that something is happening. For now I am keeping as it is with a pillow and duvet just to make her understand. This will be removed when baby is here for his safety. How ddid you train your 🐶 with the new baby things around? If you still have doubts you should always contact your midwife or health advisor. I am still seeing small pieces of mucus coming out. It worries me if baby will come earlier. We have our c-section scheduled at 39 weeks. If baby is ready to see the world I would love if it is at least with 37 weeks, when he is going to be fully developed.
