☔️ RAINY DAY WALK ☔️ This afternoon we leaned into the little bit of rain falling and went for a walk across the ridge taking notice of the little things. This walk has lot of great interpretive signs and info about the plants, fungi and birds and animals and is a great place for a wander - it also has enough undulation to get your heart pumping if you choose a bit of speed! Im thinking of taking a deep breath and organising a weekly walk for anyone in Cooma who might be interested. What do you think? I don’t think I have any followers here yet 🤣 and I’ve only met about 4 people so far but I’m sure I’ll find a way to spread the word. #northridgereservecooma #cooma #snowymountainwalks #coomawalks #coomabushwalk #bushwalkingnsw #snowymonaroplaces #bushwalkingmama #naturewalks #explorediscoverconnect #littlethings #lichen #lichenthelichen #natureplay #takenotice #bebrave

A little visitor today. Actually he was jumping around our birdbath that has a statue of a fairy sitting in it, and I couldn’t believe what a great shot that would make! But by the time I grabbed my camera, he had moved to our empty garden beds 🙄 To be honest his little blue cheeks show up way brighter against this backdrop, zoom in to see! Nature always wears the colours of the season 🌲 However we celebrate this season, let’s celebrate the timeless magic of natures gifts - older than any tradition. May the whisper of the trees remind us that seasons move and change regardless of bells or baubles. I hope we can find joy in the dappling of the leaves, the songs of the birds and the golden lights of dusk. Merry everything ✨ #wollemipine #nature #gifts #tradition #ancient #resilience #explorediscoverconnect #bushwalkingmama #enduring #wildspirit #green

TAWNY FROGMOUTHS -KURRAJONG Tawny Frogmouths are not owls. They are carnivorous, they are masters of disguise, they are co-parents, they are nocturnal (though often awake during the day), they are impossibly attractive, but they are NOT owls. #tawnyfrogmouths #notowls #birds #habitatmatters #nocturnalbirds #kurrajong #hawkesbury #bushwalkingmama #explorediscoverconnect #wildlife #lookup

A Triboniophorus graeffei or (easier to say) red triangle slug! I love how it looks like a translucent kind of leaf. This one is about 10cm long and the first one I’ve seen ‘in the wild’! 🥾🦘 AMAZING ARKAROOLA 🦘🥾 We have just returned from an incredible week exploring the Flinders Ranges, and enjoying some quality family time on a 1500km round trip from Adelaide. One of our stops was at the ruggedly spectacular Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary @arkaroolaofficial for three nights, where our kids got their first real taste of outback bushwalking. 👉 Swipe right to see some of the fabulous scenery and wildlife that makes Arkaroola so special, including native Budgerigars and the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby.

Happy new year 💚 My intention for the year, starting Jan 1 is to be more mindful of my time and what I do with it. A New Years resolution is where practical and safe to not walk past rubbish where I can pick it up and bin it. I did both of these things with a solo sunrise hike to Hollow Mountain. I love bush walking. It makes my heart and soul happy. 610am and God showed me this beautiful skyline 2021 was good to us. 2022 is looking that way as well. #solohike #sunrisehike #bushwalkingmama #bushwalking #newyear #happynewyear #adventure #explore #lesscommercial #morewholesome #gariwerd #jardwajalicountry #thegrampians #grampiansnationalpark #visitthegrampians #hollowmountain #hollowmountainsummit #sunrise #nofilter #january1

Getting outdoors with kids can be hard work. The reality is often louder, messier and more tiring than the image I have in my mind of the kids playing peacefully as I watch on, taking in the view. Being organised helps us have more flow in getting outdoors. Snacks, hats, spare clothes ready to go. This little chair made picnics with little ones much easier. Especially for early eaters with finger food. Giving me a chance to sit back and enjoy a snack myself. (Always remember snacks for yourself!) I love seeing hiking mummas taking their kids out on trails with them. With one very walking-averse toddler, I haven't ventured more than 100 m down a trail with them. For now we keep our adventures simple - a picnic rug and somewhere to explore. I'm always looking for ways to bring more flow into our days. I'd love to know, what are your tips for getting outdoors with little ones?

Do you bushwalk / hike by yourself? I kinda like it…it’s time for me to think and reflect and I can walk at my own pace and have breaks when I want - I don’t have to wait for or try to catch up to anyone!! . Hiking solo can have it’s challenges and you should use precaution when going out alone, even if it is just a short walk. Tips for hiking solo! * make sure you tell someone (or more then one person!) where you are going. I generally put it in our family chat so that the details are there if they have to look back to remember where I am! . * take a first aid kit, including snake bite kit, even for short walks *take a whistle - I have one attached to my daypack and am prepared to use it if I am lost. *take plenty of food and water. * carry a hiking pole or use a long stick - great for warding off unwanted things on the track * carry a phone with extra portable batteries, or a PLB (personal located beacon) so you can contact people in an emergency. * download the emergency plus app (you should have this for any day to day emergencies) *take and wear appropriate clothing for the weather as well as an all weather jacket * don’t listen to music through ear phones or if you want to only have one ear piece in - this way you can be aware of your surroundings *don’t tackle a hike that is too challenging or has dangerous parts on your own (unless you are an expert hiker), stick to easy hikes at least for a while. *stay on there trial!! . So I think that it!! Do you have anything else to share?? . Do you feel confident to bushwalk or hike solo?

Did you know almost everyone in Lane Cove lives within 500 metres of bushland? A pretty awesome fact, even better to know now that Sydney's lockdown rules limit outdoor recreation and exercise to within 10 km. Head to that patch of green on your local map and let it surprise you 🍃 Stay well Sydney.

Today is World Rainforest Day. This photo was taken nearly 15 years ago in the rainforests of Costa Rica. I was lucky to explore the beautiful rainforests and cloud forests with an incredible bunch of people I now call lifelong friends (and who will forever be known as the Costa Ricans!). We're no longer as young and free as we were then, having settled down and now quadrupled in numbers, with partners and our ever-expanding tribe of kiddies. But we'll always have those unforgettable memories made, tinged with rum, in the depths of the humid rainforest. Zip-lining through the canopy, kayaking past caimans  and swinging in hammocks by rivers. And all the while learning about these incredible ecosystems. Having since then hiked in rainforests in Tasmania, each time I am blown away by an unshakable sense of their ancientness and their life-giving force - the "lungs of the Earth" - you can almost feel them breathing. They are a place that inspires awe and reverence.  Of course, you don't need to travel across the globe or even interstate to witness a rainforests' magic. NSW, and even Sydney, have patches of rainforest to visit, many of which are suitable for kids.  I still remember a primary school excursion to the Forest of Tranquility in Ourimbah on the Central Coast. Perhaps it was my first introduction to the networks of roots and fungi, but it's a memory that has stuck with me all of these decades later (that, and my love for the movie Ferngully!). It is always worthwhile introducing our children into nature, however young, and just maybe they'll hold it someplace in their hearts and memories too.

Can someone explain to me why ppl litter? I found all this crap around a pristine waterfall shoot recently. Yuck! I recently crossed the #outback and was horrified at the by the thousands of Red bull & Monster cans by the roadside. Yuck! Littering is just dumb, trashy, garbage behavior.... We only have 1 earth! *grunts* Anyhoo, pic 1 & 3 are by @happysnap_photos on the treck bank from our recent shoot and pic 2 is the hundreds of cans I scavenged on the desert roadside. HA! Jokes on you, litter bugs! I'm gonna save my can cash for something amazing. And I WON'T be sharing it with you! That's all, bye! 🌱☀️

What a morning?! Incredible day 😍😍😍 And purely for the purposes of refreshing and recharging myself. There's been some very intense few weeks in relation to work... sales, marketing, instructing now, paper work.. honestly feels a bit like I'm back in China with that first business when I was doing 5 people's jobs in that business I started 😂😂 The difference here is this is pure passion! Teaching those kids lights me up like very few other things. Watching them change and improve and grow is like, omg... the BEST thing ever! The problem is, for these results to continue and to keep going and to expand, I absolutely have to be fresh, energised and on point. Otherwise, none of it is going to work. High energy is one of the most important things I use in my teaching, and it's tough! But so incredible as well 😍😍 I have to recharge at times though, otherwise it doesn't go so well... I've never had a format for this... but reading "keys to the kingdom" gave me a framework with some brilliant questions! 1. What makes you feel serene? 2. What makes you feel strong? 3. What makes you feel connected to God or spirit? And literally as easy as spending some time doing those things, essentially recharges the batteries and has you on point. For me, walking in nature and swimming in waterfalls, climbing over rocks and finding really cool natural locations ticks every box! So I spent the whole morning today doing that, and whilst I'm still tired, I feel so ready to go! That's the coolest thing about recharging, you feel amazing! And on top of that, it allows me to do my job with more passion, more fire, more energy, because I have filled myself up with what I need again. It's so important to take that time for yourself... I almost always forget! Try it for yourself and you'll have so much more to give to others. Plus you'll feel amazing 😉

Searching feverishly for the elusive sultanas in my cereal. However. I own a whole bag of sultanas. Why? Is the 'thrill of the chase' or 'hunter gatherer' being, again, unleashed, by my budget brekkie meal? Is this just me? What an awesome little greenthumb! 🌻 #repost @bushwalkingmama:Five grubby little fingers on your little right hand- Playing and swaying in the dirt and sand. Grabbing at the grass and scooping up the leaves, Picking up a flower that's making you sneeze.
