3 years ago in honour of Phoebe Rawcliffe, a little girl who unfortunately will always remain 8 (the same age Teddy is today) I set off on a mission to raise funding for @abbies_army to fight a cruel form of Child Brain cancer called DIPG. This super aggressive disease is a death sentence for kids and their families - and too little is done to research a cure (despite having the most to live for it remains a fact research into Children's forms of cancer are underfunded). Since then I've completed the Bob Graham; broke FKTs, podiumed at national Ultras and gone way beyond the remit my family signed up to in those years coming out of lockdown - to do something to raise hope. And in doing so I've come to realise that whilst fundraising is important to Abbie's Army- as the saying goes every little helps- what they need more than anything else is awareness of the need to fund research to find a cure on the national debate - and the likes of you and I to share the plight - in the way MND has got traction- to get access to national funding. Therefore almost exactly 3 years ago to the weekend since my Bob Graham, two weeks today, on Friday 24th May, I'm setting off to go the furthest I've ever gone, over 125m, 20ft to join 39 Trigs over sometimes pathless, and often incessantly boggy terrain - to hopefully become only the 4th person to complete the @caldervalleyfellrunners Founder's Round. Taking time to enjoy the camp and making time to ride were equally important to a happy bunch of gravel and MTB riders. On last weekends Headwater Trail we crossed tracks and green lanes on the moors where the Rivers Calder, Aire and Don rise and then across the valley floor where the 3 rivers flow. The trail was in fine condition and out of the three days we had mist, sun and then more sun. It did rain of course but thankfully that was late on Bank Holiday Monday and the riders were back at the event room in Mytholmroyd. As event organisers we learnt a few things and we appreciate the feedback riders gave us. Farmer Phil up near Skipton and farmer Rob over in Shepley were happy with how neat and tidy the fields were. That was down to the riders who loved being outside in two very special places. BLUEBELL JUMBLE Jumble Hole Clough forms the old boundary between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Its former name was Blackshaw Clough. It is a steep sided wooded valley formed by a fast flowing stream that flows into the river Calder. This river used to power mills in the valley, these are long gone but it is a lovely valley with swathes of bluebells and wild garlic at the minute.
