RESTAURANT #271/365: Zora Restaurant / Kafana Zora @kafana_zora (8445 W Lawrence Ave, Chicago, IL 60656) This year I'm really intent on trying restaurants in all the corners of Chicago, so today I figured I'd visit the city's northwest corner by O'Hare. Kafana Zora is a Serbian restaurant in the neighborhood of Schorsch Forest View. I've had Serbian food once or twice, so it isn't a brand new cuisine to me. I recognized some dishes on their menu, but I wanted to try something new. I ordered their "Leskovacki Ustipak," which came out as three meat patties stuffed with cheese and bacon bits. It also came with two cream cheese dips, thick-cut fries, diced red onion, a tomato slice, and a basket of very soft bread. For drinks, I started off with a Markovic Merlot. After I finished that, I asked for a recommendation for a bottled Serbian beer. My server brought a "Lav," which was delicious and smooth. It went well with the food! The Ustipak was delicious, and the cheese stuffing was honestly perfect. I've had similar Eastern European meat patties before, and these definitely hit the spot. It was a pretty filling meal, but I wasn't uncomfortably full by the end. The onions and cold cheese spreads made this plate even better. Their two signature offerings seem to be a smash burger and a "Drippin' Burger." I went with the latter, and made it a double. The Drippin' Burger has American cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, Drippin' Sauce, and sweet chili sauce on a brioche bun. Let me tell you, these pictures don't do this burger justice. And by that I mean, it was much messier than it looks (in a delicious way)! The burger was pretty neatly stacked when it was served, but it takes two hands to hold, and no matter how you do it, it's gonna slide around. The name Drippin' Bites is very fitting! The burger had a lot of flavors and textures going on, but the meat was cooked well, and I feel like it worked. I would definitely get it again, but probably do the single patty in the future. The double is truly massive! Of all the ingredients on that long list, I think the pickles stood out the most. For one, they basically fell out early on. While the other sauces and grilled onions sort of blended together flavor-wise, the pickles were pretty distinct. I ordered this as a combo, so my meal came with fries and a drink. I had the option to get Cajun fries, so I did. The fries were cut in an interesting way, and I appreciated that it still had some potato skin left. Some were denser than others, and the lighter ones cooled down a lot more quickly. In addition to burgers, Drippin' Bites has a bunch of chicken sandwiches, which I also want to try. RESTAURANT #269/365: Faiza Chicago @faiza.chicago (3315 W Bryn Mawr Ave, Chicago, IL 60659) I'm so excited to have my second Uyghur restaurant feature on Chicago Food 365! This Central Asian cuisine is such a joy to try, especially if you've never had it before! Flavors are bold, the food is hearty, and it's great for slightly colder weather like today! I ordered a fried boso lagman dish (thick noodles with beef) as well as a meat samosa. Both were delicious, although I have to admit I preferred the noodles over the samosa. Boso lagman is such a delicious dish, mixed with green beans and red peppers. Faiza served it red chili paste on the side. I added the entire thing to my plate, which gave it a little bit of a zingy aftertaste, but it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. This little corridor on Bryn Mawr in North Park has some newer restaurants, including Faiza! It's worth checking out! I havenโt felt much like cooking or posting these past six months but I was pretty excited by this quick and easy breakfast focaccia I made this morning so I thought I would share it. Itโs a riff on the TikTok Baked Feta and Tomatoes with pasta meme from a few years ago. I have an abundance of cherry tomatoes so I was looking for a way to incorporate them with some goat cheese into a topping for my sourdough focaccia. So I took a handful of the tomatoes and tossed them into a skillet with a little olive oil and salt over high heat and sautรฉed them for about three minutes until they had softened and the skins were blistered and a little charred. I put them in a bowl and added softened goat cheese and stirred them together and voilร โa delicious breakfast.
