Happy (Almost) #EarthDay! In celebration, we're bringing you our top charts from the EPIC/AP-NORC 2023 poll. Today, we're highlighting Americans’ Views on Electric Vehicles. 🚗Few Americans own an #EV, but 2 in 5 say they are likely to purchase one. Adults aged 45 & younger are more likely than those aged 45 & older to own an EV. Among those who own an EV, 79% say they are at least somewhat likely to choose one again the next time they buy a car. Republicans and Democrats own EVs at similar rates. But >1/2 of Democrats say they are at least somewhat likely to purchase one as their next vehicle. >1/4 of Republicans report the same. 1/4 of Americans from the West Coast say they are extremely or very likely to purchase an EV, compared with 18% in the Northeast, and 16% in each the Midwest and the South. ⛽️More than 7 in 10 Americans say they would buy an #EV to save money on gas. Climate change ranked 2nd, with 2/3 saying that reducing their personal impact on climate change would be a motivating factor. While both Democrats (59%) & Republicans (34%) list saving money on gas as their #1 reason for why they would purchase an EV, more than ½ of Democrats list climate change as their 2nd reason. Just 17% of Republicans list it as a motivating factor. 💲Most Americans cite the cost of buying an EV as the top barrier to purchasing one. Across income levels, about 8 in 10 Americans cite the cost of new EVs as a reason why they would not buy one. However, 60% of Americans say tax breaks would motivate them to purchase an EV. 8 in 10 say they would not purchase an EV because there are not enough charging stations available. 7 in 10 say they would not purchase one because they take too long to charge and the battery technology isn’t ready. Republicans are more concerned than Democrats that there aren’t enough charging stations (56% vs. 49%), the battery technology is not quite ready (52% vs. 34%), & they take too long to charge (48% vs. 32%). The Red Fox!! Well, kind of red, there is also the grey fox and silver fox!! The Red fox is a species of true foxes and is actually the largest and most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora!! Everyone can identify a fox, they have been depicted in media as a clever and sly animal. The term sly as a fox is very much true. They are one of the most widespread animal in the world for a reason. They have incredible adaptability in any environment. From forest to the seacoast, from jungles to city environment. As bad as a reputation they have for being seen by the public eye as an "evil villain" they are not bad at all, they keep to themselves and avoid human conflict as much as possible. Now to address the interesting coloration of the fox in the photos. This can be drawn back to the early days of the fur trade. Humans would breed foxes and some would express different colors and in the process this would result in silver foxes, black foxes, cross-colored foxes, etc. Thankfully these foxes don't have to worry about the fur trade as they are safely in the care of the staff at Bee City Zoo. It was truly a great experience visiting great facility!! They are currently going through a lot of construction for bigger and better exhibits so I can't wait to see what the future holds for this amazing place!! In a countdown to #EarthDay, we're bringing you our top charts from the EPIC/AP-NORC 2023 poll. Today, we're highlighting Americans’ Views on Climate and Energy Policy. 📝 1/2 of Americans, but mostly Democrats, believe climate policy is important. Democrats rank climate change policy as the 3rd most important issue, behind the economy and healthcare and followed by energy policy. Republicans rank climate change as the least important policy issue to them. However, 3 in 10 still cite it as very or extremely important. 💲Americans are less willing to pay for a carbon fee than they were just a year ago – nearly 2/3 of Americans are unwilling to pay any amount to combat climate change. Those willing to pay a $1 carbon fee decreased by 14 percentage points in two years, with support for the fee decreasing as the impact on their energy bill grows. A consistent minority is willing to pay a significant amount (even $100 or more) to combat climate change. 💡As the #InflationReductionAct begins to offer historic incentives for renewable power, Americans remain mixed in their support for the power lines needed to deliver that electricity to consumers. Only 56% of Americans support a proposal to build high-voltage power lines to transport renewable energy to places in need, but just 48% would do so if the power lines would be built in their neighborhood. Democrats & high-income households are more likely than Republicans to support the power lines being built, but their support drops significantly when told the power lines would be built in their neighborhood. The Barred Owl!!! This is the first appearance of the owl on my Instagram. I have seen the Barred Owl before and have gotten the chance to photograph a captive Barred Owl but not a wild one out in nature!! This was truly a spectacular sight to behold!! While I was traveling with my photographer friend, we caught eye of the beautiful mother. She stared at both of us, we pulled out our cameras and quickly took shots of the beautiful moment. The other photographers were on the other side of her. She was actually watching over her baby!! The little one was learning to venture out on its own. In doing so, it jumped the nest and walked along the ground while the mother watched from above to keep watch of any potential predators that may hurt her baby. Unlike Eagles, and other Birds of Prey, Owls do their very best to keep all their baby chicks alive!! Some eaglets will actively harass the younger/weaker siblings. Owlets are very much different, they stick close together! There is always a scenario where that isn't the case but more often than not, Owls look after each other. Evidently seen within the 2nd photo. The mother turned her head and continued to watch her little owl flutter on the ground. The little one is still trying to get its muscles strong enough for it to be able to fly in the air!! I can't wait to go back and visit the little munchkin to see the progress the little one will make!! It is the Earth Day Week!!! I will be of course, posting about animals that play a huge role in the ecosystem that they live in, and what better animal than a wild animal. This is a green tree frog at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. When I was visiting this beautiful nature preserve with a professional wildlife photography friend, I was told that there was a little frog just chilling on a flower nearby. I rushed over to get a look at the little one and low and behold, he was just enjoying the cool morning air. The American Green Tree Frog is an arboreal species of frog that ironically likes to spend a lot of time near the water. When a predator approaches, it can quickly submerge itself underwater to avoid it! Such a little creature plays such a vital role in the ecosystem. They are a pest control to the dangerous and also annoying, mosquito!!! Being an insectivore, they gorge themselves on mosquitos and other insects on a regular basis!! They have also gotten the name "rain frog". The reason for the name is when they breed. After a heavy rain, the frogs will emerge and start to call out to others for the breeding to begin. They have also been seen giving out distinct calls that are different from mating and alarm calls, it is a "rain call". This makes them great indicators for wet weather in the future!! Thankfully this species of frog is considered least concern on the IUCN Red List. I am truly blessed to have gotten the chance to photograph this beautiful species at the start of Earth Week!! A new species!! Is it a weird crocodile? A long snouted alligator? Nope!! This is the Tomistoma, the False Gavial!! This is a freshwater crocodilian species! They are native to Indonesia and Malaysia. Being a freshwater crocodilian, they rely on their long snout to catch prey like fish, small mammals, crustaceans and invertebrates. They have also been seen taking down Macaque Monkeys in the wild!! Their conservation status is listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List. With an estimated population that is less than 2500 mature individuals in the wild. Deforestation is a big benefactor in their population decrease. Another interesting fact about this species, the adults seem to not take care of their babies once they hatch. This is a very uncommon characteristics from a crocodilian species!! In a countdown to #EarthDay, we're bringing you our top charts from the poll. Today, we're highlighting Americans' Attitudes and Actions on Climate Change. 🌡️ Most Americans believe climate change is happening, fewer are convinced its human-driven. Increased doubt was just as significant for someone who graduated from college as someone with only high school education or less, and was more pronounced for younger Americans. A rising number of Democrats and Independents were also less convinced by human-driven climate change, while Republicans’ views that climate change is caused more by natural drivers did not change over the last five years. 💲Americans are acting to save money on their energy bills. Most Americans are taking actions that will save them money on their energy bills such as turning off lights, reducing heat and A/C use and buying an energy efficient appliance. But fewer are making more significant behavioral changes like using renewable energy or driving an electric car. 🔥 Climate attitudes and actions may shift as more experience climate impacts. One in 5 Americans say they would consider moving to avoid extreme weather impacts with the largest portions coming from the West Coast and Southwest where wildfires, drought and extreme heat plague the region. The Semipalmated Plover!! I showed off this little bird in the past, but it deserves its own post!! Just look at the little one, it is adorable!! The SP Plover is a small compact shorebird with short, stubby bill, a round head, and large eyes. Reaching lengths from 6.7-7.5inches (17-19 cm). With the big eyes they have, they are visual hunters, relying heavily on visual cues from prey that may be hiding in the sand. They run a couple steps, pause and wait a couple moments to see any movement and strike!! Smithsonian Zoo is one of the first zoo facilities to display shorebirds and many native bird species in ways that mimic their natural environment. It was such a great experience getting to see this small plover explore its' habitat while I was standing by just photographing the little one. Can't wait to go back and visit!! Lets change things up with Earth Month!! I had the amazing opportunity to photograph a local business who had its roots (pun intended) in the myrtle beach area!! This is Rock n Roots!! This beautiful store is located in Charleston SC, and just had its grand opening on Friday! This facility has an assortment of beautiful succulents, orchids, bonsai trees and many more incredible plants that would make any plant enthusiast be in awe!! Even the mayor of Charleston came by to visit this beautiful store! The biggest thing that stood out to me in the store was the reusable beer cans that would house some plants!! Continuing Earth Month, we have an animal that very well reshapes the landscape. The American Bison and the American White Bison!! Though different color, they are one in the same. The American Bison is the largest land mammal on the North American Continent. Though they are massive, they area also incredibly fast and agile. Reaching speeds of up to 45mph and jumping 6ft high from a stand still. The white bison is regarded by many natives as a sacred animal and are incredibly rare within a bison herd. Thankfully, I got the amazing chance to see this beautiful species in person!! An interesting fact I heard about bison, is whenever a snowstorm is coming their way, they will lay down and face the storm head on. Shows the power and determination these beautiful animals possess. Hybrid Animals, it is not often when an animal of a different species breeds with another different species or sub-species, whether it be natural or artificially by human intervention. Continuing the trend of Earth Month, throughout history, humans have seen hybrid animals, the mule is a good example of a hybrid animal alongside the grolar bear. Today I want to introduce you all to a very beautiful hybrid animal. This is the Zedonk!! The Zedonk is a cross between a male zebra and female donkey. They have a calmer personality compared to their African cousins but still a very stubborn nature given that they are also part donkey. They have a different color compared to zebras with a brown coat, brown stripes and a white underbelly. Visiting Eudora Wildlife Safari Park is always an amazing experience!! Species #244 the Sea Lion!! The sea lions within these photos are actually natives from California. The 2 male sea lions, Maverick and Ranger, call Riverbanks Zoo their home. When they were pups they were rescued after a mass stranding event back where they come from. Not many people know the reasoning behind these mass stranding events and why they happen but they were rescued and brought into human care. They have made Riverbanks Zoo their home for the past couple of years and have become a crowd favorite. The Sea Lion is in the order pinniped, a order which consist of carnivorous aquatic mammals like walrus and other seals. They can be found across the west coast of the United States and can also be found as far north as southeast Alaska and far south as Central Mexico. Sexual dimorphism is heavily present within sea lions. With males weighing between 700-1000lbs and reaching sizes of up to 8ft long, whereas, with females, they can reach 6ft long and weigh around 240lbs. Males grow a large bump of bone on the top of their head called the sagittal crest. Being able to see these beautiful animals thrive and enjoy their lives without a care in the world is truly amazing, I am glad I got the chance to watch them swim, play around and train while I was visiting!! There are more than 400 species of native bees in Canada. Native bees provide a very important service in our ecosystem in the following ways: 🐝 Many of the food crops and flowers we rely on benefit from our native bee pollination. 🐝 Bees transfer large amounts of pollen between flowering plants, doing their job to pollinate flowers that lead to great harvests. 🐝 About half of the world’s plant species depend upon animals, like bees, bugs and butterflies for pollination. 🐝 Some plants require a specific native bee for proper pollination. For example, tomatoes can only be effectively pollinated by Bumblebees, and apples are most effectively pollinated by Mason Bees. 🐝 It’s time to take action & live sustainably. Let’s start by taking care of our smallest friends first. So, how do you attract beneficial bees? 1. Create shelter for native bees and make a bee box (check out our website for DIY instructions). 2.
