Mit seinem Kino Roulette lässt @erwinditzner den Glamour und die Filmfaszination der zwanziger Jahre wiederaufleben. Ein Kinobesuch wurde damals zum echten Erlebnis! Da Ton- und Filmspur damals noch nicht gemeinsam aufgenommen werden konnten, wurden die Filme live musikalisch untermalt - eine Rolle, die der Schlagzeuger Ditzner an diesem Abend gemeinsam mit @paata_demurishvili übernimmt. Filmwissenschaftlerin Dr. Morticia Zschiesche übernimmt die Filmauswahl und in den Film ein. Vor 100 Jahren feierte der berühmte Stummfilm Das Wachsfigurenkabinett von Paul Leni aus dem Jahr 1924 seine Uraufführung. Er gilt als Schlüsselwerk des expressionistischen Films und ist zugleich eine Verneigung vor dem Ludwigshafener Theater- und Filmschauspieler und Regisseur Wilhelm (William) Dieterle, der später in Hollywood zu einem der großen Filmschaffenden avancierte. Das Wachsfigurenkabinett vereint beeindruckend die verschiedenen Gesichter des Wilhelm Dieterle, der nicht nur als Schauspieler in seiner Dreifachrolle an der Seite der Filmlegenden Conrad Veidt, Emil Jannings und Werner Krauß überzeugt, sondern darüber hinaus bereits hier sein Regie-Talent als Assistent einbringt. Die neu restaurierte Fassung wurde 2020 zu den 70. Gustav Meyrink był ekonomistą, współzałożycielem banku, a po godzinach zgłębiał tajniki spirytualizmu, ezoteryki, dalekowschodnich systemów religijnych, a także mistyki chrześcijańskiej, żydowskiej czy islamskiej. Po opuszczeniu Pragi poświęcił się pisarstwu i powyższe zainteresowania znalazły odzwierciedlenie w jego utworach. Wydawnictwo Abyssos przygotowało nie lada gratkę - zbiór opowiadań Meyrinka w nowym tłumaczeniu Bartka Ejzaka. "Gabinet figur woskowych" jest bardzo zróżnicowany, co nie pozwala na nudę. Każde opowiadanie jest zupełnie nową czytelniczą przygodą. Groza przeplata się tu z groteską, melancholia z komizmem i czarnym humorem, a okultystyczne praktyki i nadnaturalne wizje z... baśnią. Trip po amanicie? Gigantyczne kraby? Mózg żyjący bez reszty organizmu? Koronkowe pierścienie wokół Saturna? To wszystko i jeszcze więcej znajdziecie w tym zbiorze dziwności i makabreski. Seria "Otchłanie grozy" odkurza zapomniane już nieco utwory, a Meyrink zasługuje na to, aby go czytać! Jego utwory stylistycznie są genialne (co pięknie oddał w swoim tłumaczeniu Bartek Ejzak), świetnie operuje ironią, maluje niesamowite pejzaże słowami, zaskakuje głębią penetracji ludzkiej natury, potrafi zadziwić. "Gabinet figur woskowych" zwiedza się z otwartą buzią i zachwytem. Bardzo mnie cieszy, że jest na rynku wydawnictwo, które sięga po mniej znane, nietuzinkowe dzieła, które nadal jednak wzbudzają fascynację. Są może nie dla każdego odbiorcy, ale nie można im odmówić kunsztu, z jakim zostały napisane. Całym sercem polecam Wam wycieczkę do "Gabinetu figur woskowych" Meyrinka! Przekonajcie się sami o wyjątkowości tego zbioru opowiadań, bo to trzeba po prostu przeżyć na własnej skórze. Meyrinka poznałam lata temu. Nie dosłownie oczywiście, choć to swój ziomek i nie miałabym nic przeciwko, gdybym mogła z nim zamienić kilka zdań. W każdym razie jakimiś pokrętnymi tropami (nie pytajcie jakimi, bo nie pamiętam!) dotarłam do "Golema". I przepadłam... Wiem, że wtedy byłam w klimatach fascynacji Kafką, Kubinem, Schulzem i Meyrink był w tym towarzystwie punktem tyleż ciekawym, co oryginalnym. Byłam pod wrażeniem nawiązań do kultury żydowskiej. Oniryczność, niesamowitość, groza... To było wtedy mocne. Teraz wydawnictwo Abyssos raczy nas inną książką Szatana z Pragi. Jest to zbiór opowiadań "Gabinet figur woskowych" w nowym tłumaczeniu Bartka Ejzaka. Znajdziecie tam wszystko, co w dziełach pisarza ważne. Mrok, ezoteryka, cięty dowcip, groteska, orientalizm, groza, filozoficzno-egzystencjalne myśli, sarkazm, makabra, absurd... Przyznaję, kwiknęłam z radości, kiedy wydawnictwo zgodziło się, abym objęła opiekę nad tym tytułem 😁 Toteż dumnie zapraszam Was do lektury tego niewielkiego objętościowo zbioru, swoistego panoptikum szaleństwa, dziwności i horroru. Będzie kolorowo 🙃 Niedługo napiszę Wam więcej, a na razie podrzucam cytat z opowiadania "Bal macabre": - Między sekundą a sekundą spoczywa granica, która jest poza czasem, która jest tylko pomyślana. Das Wachsfigurenkabinett ist ein Anthologie-Film, der durch eine Rahmenhandlung, miteinander verbunden wird, unter der Regie von Paul Leni. Ein Schriftsteller wird von einem Karnevals-Wachsmuseum angestellt, um Geschichten über mehrere ihrer Figuren zu schreiben: ein Kalif, Iwan den Schrecklichen und Jack the Ripper. Während er schreibt, geht der Film in die Geschichte über, die der Autor erfindet. Die längste der drei Geschichten handelt von Harun al Raschid, einem Kalifen von Bagdad, der sich in die Frau eines Bäckers verliebt – und sie dann zu sich nehmen will. Die Episode mit Emil Jannings als Kalif ist eine Mischung aus Abenteuer und etwas Komödie. Vor das Setdesign weiß hier zu überzeugen, das schon fast in Richtung Caligari geht. Die zweite Episode ist die Geschichte des russischen Herrschers Iwan der Schreckliche, der gerne Gefangene vergiftet, aber Angst vor seinem hochbegabten Giftmischer hat. Ivan wird von Conrad Veidt gespielt, der auch hier wieder zeigt, wieso er einer der beliebtesten deutschen Stummfilmschauspieler war. Auch hier ist das Set einfach fantastisch. Die dritte Geschichte ist mein Highlight, da es schon eher knapp Richtung Caligari geht, was auch am Schauspieler William Dieterle liegt, der Caligari spielte. Die Kinematografie in dieser Sequenz ist besonders gelungen, mochte ich alle Settings sehr gerne, wäre dieses mein absoluter Favorit, hier hat Paul Leni ganze Arbeit geleistet. Das Wachsfigurenkabinett ist ein beeindruckender und kreativer Film, der die Farben entsprechend der Umgebung ändert und erstaunlichen Szenarien und lustigen Geschichten bietet. I have this fear that one day silent films like Waxworks (original title: Das Wachsfigurenkabinett) won't be available anymore to the general public. You may think platforms like YouTube will be the place the general audience will find those type of films there, but will they? And will they be in the best quality? I don't think so. I recently got a hold of this terrific bluray release by @eurekaentertainment. I had a look at the film twice now and I think it's a great release that I will cherish for a very long time. The worlds represented tend to be distorted and surreal, the characters full of expressivity thanks to the heavy make-up.
